Recently got my hands on a second model so I'm converting it up: Essentially, I need help doing a Psycannon (please excuse the crappy photos)

Hey guys, I've got a Sisters of Battle army and I decided to add in a Daemon Hunter Inquisitor so I could have a psycannon. I decided to keep with the Adepta Sororitas feel I would make myself a female inquisitor. The highly abridged background being that she manifest psyker powers as a repentia, did do impress the inquisitor with her, and was taken on. Ended up in the DH side of things due to the fact my roommate plays Slaanesh and keeps killing lots of my troops (metastory!) Here's where I'm going with this:

Very simple: she looks a bit like the sisters do anyway, given her a nice scroll that I can write inquisitorial mandates on (woo), and a sisters back pack to justify that she might be wearing some sort of armour or protection rather than a corset, dress, and thigh high buckled boots...

Now, I want her to have a Psycannon, and she looks a bit unarmed at present. I'll be taking her either as an Elite or HQ choice in different points values, so she won't -always- have henchmen; so I can't just slap a psycannon on one of them. Now I hardly have any bitz, but I have plasticard and greenstuff at my disposal, here are the only things I have:

Most of which dwarf her. Unfortunately no armies other than my witch hunter models. Now one idea, demonstrated in bluetack follows:

Obviously I'll cut the ammo feed down, and make a little arm for it, but it still looks a bit cumbersome and oversized; can anyone recommend a better way? Essentially I don't want to obscure too much of her, and she's quite small so I want to keep the weapon fairly petite.

Wow, I don't think I've been on since the forums changed hands.

Anyways - I've been doing Sisters since the end of 3rd. I think a shoulder mounted psycannon is the wrong direction. See if you can bum a smaller storm bolter or DH bitz. I'd personally go for a back of a powergloves/forearm mounted one on this model, behind the scroll. You might even get a pfist/bolter combo (like abaddon - there's another model that has that, iirc) and then tack the scroll onto that hand.

I would also definitely clip her left hand and turn the sword right side up. The sword point in the ground look just doesn't do it for me.

That is all.

Cheers,
Reodd

either go with the powerfist combi psycannon idea, or useing a stormbolter and GS make a arm mount on her left arm in the same style as grey knights, just make the bidy of the psycannon a bit rounder and a bigger barral

Hmm, I wonder how she can still stand with that giant cannon on her back. I think you should try to put a smaller weapon on her shoulder or other wise have some cherub/familiar/servitor/servo skull/etc carry the thing instead.

I would offer to trade you the psycannon from inquisitor covenant, only thing is it's only slightly smaller than what you have.

I would try using a smaller weapon and see what i could do with one of the melta gun nozzles you have as they're not to dissimilar to the psycannon ones.

one more option you do have is, instead of making a psycannon, give a stormbolter and have hanging by a strap across her back and when useing the mini ingame, equip it with psycannon bolters (also works out cheaper point wise in game)

I second Malika2's advice. Definitely put it on a servo skull or other flying familiar. You can attach the familiar to the inquisitor's base by a piece of wire if you don't want to use a separate model.

The reason I'm going for psycannon is the greater shots and strength 6; she's a stand and shoot inquisitor, the sword is purely decoration at this point. Unfortunately the sword is grafted to her boot and the top of the toes of the boot too: I'm not sure I can cut it off without doing big damage. Obviously I agree that the shouldermount is a big cumbersome and heavy to look natural.

Perhaps if I took the multimelta, and turned it into a psycannon by cutting off the melta nozzles and building something up; I could have her holding the gun at the same angle of the sword, resting ready?

Do you think a storm bolter on the back of the arm holding the mandate would be a fair representation for a Psycannon? They are S6 AP4 XD

Anyone got examples of servoskulls or familiars so I could look into modelling one?

for the record: the thing on her shoulder is a GK stormbolter, and like, totally randomly, I actually DO have a single DK which was given to me... how mad is that. I kinda don't want to butcher him though because he's fun =3

Here's a picture for scale, I don't know what sort of GK the model in question is, but it shows you his slightly smaller storm bolter, and the fact it's the same dealy, also put him next to a sister and the inquisitor herself (the blob is a fluer de lys but the camera didn't grab it very well, it's not as terrible as it looks)

The sister of battle backpack is a vague attempt to try and justify the 3+ save when she is an Inquisitor Lord... I've no idea how I'd justify Artificer Armour if I took it, unless she's using fantasy rules where the more flesh you show the better protected you are... go go magical corset of protection

I've seen the Culexus assassin head turned into a servo skull / weapon familiar. The gizmos and wires on the side of the head make a nice attachment point for a big gun. I don't have any pictures, though.

While I don't have any pics specifically of psycannons, I do have some pics that may inspire you for creation of one. These are some pics of a Sisters of Battle diorama from a Golden Demon tournament. I wish I knew who painted it and what year they're from, but I'm pretty sure that they are Pre-DH codex. If anyone knows who painted these, please chime in with that info.

This picture is quite reassuring: they've cut off the sword arm and removed the leg below the knee along with the sword: and attached a normal sister of battle leg there (custom by the looks of it, but has the overlapping bit on the knee), same with the other side, increases her overall height and makes her look more leggy.

This might well be a good idea for me to follow on from; gives me more freedom with the arms. I might use the big book I have for the left arm, and give her a big cannon on the right. The only problem is this would be a one way conversion: I couldn't replace it if I didn't like it.

The others are a bit meh to my mind, but I'll be doing something very similar to the 4th picture: Most of mine hold big flags, but I'm using a model like that and making a giant holy weapon; not sure if I will use a mace, halberd or spear yet. Maybe a lance. I find the eldar wing sections to be a bit gaudy to my liking.

Thank you very much for offering those pictures up; I've not seen anything like that on CMON

An easy answer is go with a bigger base and mount a henchman with a psycannon on it.

Another is to use some sprue or plastic rods and have the gun next to her on a stand.

Because of the reassurance of that picture, I decided to have a go at removing the sword. I really should have taken "in progress" pictures because it was actually fairly tricky, but the sword body itself is only touching the foot it turned out, and there is "extra" metal between the sword and the leg, leaving an area to cut into. Turned out the boot was a bit bulkier as it moved towards the ankle, so after I cut down, and sliced a bit out of the shoe to remove the sword, I was able to file down the leg into a neater shape (not as easy as I thought it might be because of the coat being very close:

(used a scalpel, not the saw... not sure how I didn't notice the saw was close)

Still have a little slither to cut off then sand, but you get the idea; you can also see some of the extra metal on the sword. Due to the softness of the metal I just bent it away once it was free.

Now there's slightly more options available and I can look more into attaching a stormbolter and slapping inquisitorial stuff on it. Tempted to make it a bit like how terminators have their arm encased within the body of the weapon.

With reference to the idea of putting her on a larger base, and throwing some sister acolytes to carry her gun; is there any issue with using larger bases? Would this mean LoS could be drawn to the extra girs to allow things to shoot my inquisitor?

That's a good question, rules are you have to see the torso of the model so I would say no, the henchwoman is like a banner or a sword, not targetable.

Great job with some tricky cutting - I look forward to seeing how this goes!

I like the look and feel of freewalking gundrones. I glued this one together from bits I had lying around. I inted to use it as either a servitor or a henchman, once I get around to painting it. You could easily make someting like this and use it as a decorative model, completely ignoring it regarding the rules.

That looks pretty fun, but also a bit too comical for my tastes; it's one of the reasons I take a distaste to the cherubs you get for henchmen and on celestines robes. I'd rather have a repentia carrying it for her if I was going to go down that line to stick with the whole sisterly aspect.

By way of update I've removed the sword all together, and for now I've taken my scroll off (stupidly, I sawed away at it in sections to get the arm off of it, then realised I could just use a file then build the back of the hand in greenstuff)

Now, at this stage I'm tempted to bend the arm down so the lower arm is parallel to the ground, and build a psycannon to run along her arm and be held a bit like the stormbolters attach. I have no idea as of yet what I'd put in the left hand. Possibly I'd have it close to her side and straight to give an impression of sterness.

Anyone here got a recommendation for that paragraph above?

After all my work to save the boot, I'm still tempted to give her the longer legs, I liked that leggy look from the picture someone else converted.

The sword seems pointless as I don't see me ever equipping her for CC.

You know, I'm of the mind that I think giving her a proper psycannon will make her look awkward (unless you make it, like, as big as her in that goofy Final Fantasy sort of way). I'm of the opinion, too, that you give her a servitor or something carrying the Psycannon for her.

I think the best bit to use would be the Eversor Assasin's pistol in her right hand. I would leave the arm in the same pose it is though. It may not represent the size you're looking for but it's a pretty wicked looking weapon that looks like it could have psychic powers channeled through it or whatever.

Other than that I'd have to just fall in line with the servitor idea. Here's my Heavy Bolter servitors if it'll help any.

Glaive Company CO: I love the spider gun XD that's brilliant.

I'm not looking to give her a full sized psycannon, certainly I would have stolen one from a GK if I was going to that, and wouldn't have talked about not wanting her to be unweildy; I was going to GS my own psycannon; Though the stormbolter on the GK mini I showed is a lot more appropriate a size.

If it was shoulder mounted, I'd want it more petite, if it was in her hand, I'd want it to be fairly small, but chunky enough to give off the impression of shooty deadly, if she wasn't holding it, but it was strapped or sitting on the ground resting against her hand, I'd want it enormous for comic effect.

I think what puts me against automoton servitors, is that it takes away from the idea that she's actually skilled herself. A machine or zomble shooting her gun is hardly her being all impressive and BS4 (okay so the fact henchmen boost abilities also detracts, but I'm sure you can see my somewhat odd reasoning there). For some reason shoulder mounting feels okay because it's actually on her.

Picky bastard ain't I =(

I'm liking the look of the evesor pistol; looks like I could just customize the bolter I have somewhat. this will still leave me with a left arm spare, with nothing to go in it just now =D

What did people think of the scroll? would it be too much to throw a scroll or book in the other hand?

I'm sorry I'm nay saying so much, but it's very good of you to all be offering advice and sources and certainly the ideas are good and pictures help absolutely anyone who comes to the thread looking for ideas themselves. Pictures are an integral part of creativity (read:stealing ideas)

There is no such thing as "too much" when it comes to scripture and inquisitors! Go for the scroll I say.

And I must agree, the H-bolter drones by glaive are very very cute!

Thanks! I don't know if I was going for 'cute' so much as 'deadly' but then again most of the pink fur I had origionally glued to them has fallen off.

I gotta agree about the scrolls. I dig the fact that it looks like she's actually reading a list of charges or something right before she executes some heretic or something.

I'm gonna take a stab at convincing you of the servitor idea. I know you are against it but hey I think this sounds cool so thought I would share. Another suggestion would be to go with a termy base and put a cyber mastiff on the base with her. Shave down its back and mount a gw psycannon or better yet one of the eldar bright lances combined with the stormbolter mount as the mounting on the back. It works well. Not to mention you could have her hand resting on the dog or cannon. Possibly put a modified auspex in her hand as a control. Ya can even put the cherub model on the base flying over them. With a pin vise drill 3 holes next to each model. Use skulls or other type of cool looking marker for the individual models wounds. Would catch a good amount of lookie lous.

I just don't think anything short of a very small psy cannon will work well with this model or a henchman carrying it. It is one of the cooler ones and loading up too much on it will detract from that factor. Her alure is that she is sleek and feminine which sets her apart from most of the range. Building up the base would keep her the center of attention with out bogging her down with useless bulky gear.

Remember one that looks dangerous often is not. One that looks timid could rip your arms off. Best example is in Men in Black. Remember the scene where he shoots the lil girl cardboard cut out. Nuff said.

My vote. larger base with cybermastif - gun hound.

Just my 2 cents.

P.S. I use cyber mastiffs as combat servitors. It just looks better and they remain scary.
