GAMESFEST 4 : 24/10/2009

Gamesfest :

A one day convention to showcase the best of Role playing, Wargaming, Boardgaming & Science fiction/Fantasy literature. We want to pull all the strands of Fantasy/Science Fiction together and create a unique experience for the fan/enthusiast in one convention.
Ours is a unique vision and we want to focus on customer satisfaction and a totally enjoyable day dedicated to players and fans alike.
The aim is to:
Enable people to play games in an informal, friendly environment.
Let fans sample the best the gaming industry has to offer through Trade Stands / demo games.
Let fans meet the creators/designers of the games.
Give an opportunity to meet the writers/artists of your favorite Comics and Books
Gamesfest is a Hertfordshire based convention and has been running at the Victoria Hall in Tring for the past 3 years.

We have outgrown our current venue and will be holding Gamesfest 4 at the Watford Colosseum
The new location: Watford Colosseum (Watford town centre)
Facilities include a fully licensed bar, two venue halls, dressing rooms, a large kitchen and ample parking facilities .There is also a large stage with full lighting system. The Colosseum has a seating capacity of 1188 in the main hall and 298 seating space in the gallery.
The main hall is 700 sq M and the smaller hall is 225sq M. This means we have capacity for over 50 exhibitors / traders. The capacity for attendees is over 1000.
The transport links are excellent via Road and rail (the main line station is 10 minutes walk away)
The future of Gamesfest.
We want to build on the success of last year with the right partners that share our vision. GW , Wizzkids , Mongoose publishing , Privateer Press , 2000AD , SFX , Forbidden Planet etc

At present we have two distinct elements to Gamesfest:

Gaming : Incorporating War games , role-playing , board gaming and CCGS.

Literature : Sci fi , Fantasy and Horror – last years guest included Dan Abnett and Stan Nicholls ( see www.gamesfest.co.uk for a full list)

This year we want to further include:

Comics and guest writers/artists : Leah Moore has already confirmed her attendance.

Collecting / memorabilia and guests: Forbidden Planet are hoping to attend after sponsoring the goody bags at GF3.

Film : Garry Charles will be screening his debut movie “Straw Man” and Frazer Lee will be showing a selection of short movies.

Computer/Console Games

Music: The venue is a music venue as well and we thought we might have an after party!

We are speaking to Ghoultown from the US and a couple of home grown bands

I for one will be there, as I actually live in Tring and have been a regular Gamesfester.

But seriously, there was something cool about this being in Victoria Hall. My girlfriend used to love seeing the Stormtroopers stood outside.

What's the entry fee this year?

Oh, and pleeeeease can we have a mini gamesfest for us Tring lot?

Tek - The victoria Hall was/is cool.

However some people didnt like the location ( travelling to it).

We are always playing games in Tring - we rent the scout hut etc.

There is a pretty good wargaming club in Watford that meets on Wednesday night if you need more room/new oponents.
We play the full range of GW games in addition to PP, FoW and many others.

A games festival with FoW... inside the M25... making a note in my schedule now...

I am planning on going to this, I might be able to get some of my group together and come into Watford.

I should be going along with the wife, was tempted to enter the 40K combat patrol, but haveing a pair of screwed up knees, i just cant stand up that long anymore, (so no more tournys for me) looking forward to seeing what FW brings along and what GW wont tell us........lol

Warhammer 40K Doubles Tournament

Run by Local GCN Clubs & GamesFest.


We will be using the rules featured in White Dwarf 353.

“An army is made of two forces .Each force is supplied by one player in the team. An army cannot be more than 1000 points in total and must consist of:

Two forces of no more than 500 points each. Unused points cannot be transferred between forces.

Each Player must provide 1 HQ and 1 Troop unit as the basis of their individual Forces.

Players may add one of each of these unit types to their combined army: 1 Elite , 1 Fast Attack or 1 Heavy Support.

An army cannot include further Elite, Fast attack or Heavy Support choices until it has fulfilled all of the above restrictions.

In all other respects the Standard force organisation chart must be followed.”

The Allies Matrix used will be the one from Apocalypse.

Great news GW supremo Jervis Johnson is also attending the Fest!




Jervis Johnson is a game designer for Games Workshop.
He is currently one of Game Workshop's long-term strategy managers, having previously been employed as head of its Specialist Games division.
Jervis currently contributes a regular series of articles that focus on the hobby aspects of Games Workshop products, entitled Standard Bearer, to White Dwarf[i]

So does that mean we can bring the base ball bats down and beat him up...............lol.
Be intresting to see how he answers any questions about the rest of the 3rd ed dex's that need updateing.

No baseball bats allowed - only weapons from the 41st Millenium ( no Vortex grenades)
