So with the close arrival of the new Imp codex and my Nova marines off to a good start i decided to dust off my vast Imperial Tallarn army. It looked like squig poo, i don't think i ever really realized how badly painted some of my stuff was...I guess i have learned a few painting tricks since i last painted my Tallarn Slammers... So a Redux of they general scheme was in order. So I am going to go through all of my tanks while i touch up a squad or two on the side. Starting with this Exterminator, I just finished this, have not named it yet, as most of my tanks are named.
Currently i have 6 Stock Leman Russ tanks with sponsons, 1 vanquisher, 1 exterminator, 1 demolisher, 2 laser destroyers (custom) plus a extra stock Russ and Exterminator turret...along with 6 chimera (stock), 1 command chimera (TL-hvy bolter) 2 hell hounds, 2 griffons, 2 basilisk, and one resin medusa barrel that still needs a chassis... So this thread will go on for a good while i think... the paint job is simple, just bleach bone and some inking, but i looks great, and will match my grunts on the board...only problem i see is that i only have one platoon of Tallarn infantry...gonna need more troops...

Nicely done... especially the writing.

Is it all freehand? If so, really well done on it!

Where's the ventilation fan on the engine from? Is that in the Exterminator box?

It looks like it's custom built using the Lego Mechanic's Gear Sprue(small circular sprue with spokes and all manner of wrenches, power drill, and other useful bits) or something similar in appearance.

its a car radiator from some 1/35 scale plastic car model kit that gave its life for my bits box...just a car radiator with a built on fan...wait till you see the other tanks in my motorpool... will have a squad finished tomorrow and maybe my custom Laser Destroyeri got it as close as i could to the FW kit, as far as the chassis goes...you'll see it late tomorrow, after i get home from work...

While you're under the hood with your Slammers, you might want to look into getting 60 mm bases for the change over to heavy weapons being 2 wound large base models. I'm working on that right now with my Valhallans.

well more works been done, 1st squad is basicly done. I have been spending most of the weekend fixing all the damage to the tanks before I start the repaint. Thisis shown as unpainted gray plastic on primered or painted tanks...mostly missing or broken hatches and such. heck i even had 3 unpainted chimeras that still needed to be completed before paint, so please don't look at the paint jobs on these, they are due a repaint so yes i know they are streaky...but at least they are fixed and ready...i think i need an airbrush...

all of my chimeras and a few tanks

Its "Lil'John" gets a new hatch and i will be making a cover out of greenstuff to seal the gun into the tank better, the hole around the gun is bugging me more and more...

My command Chimera, modeled after the M113 command APC...rules wise i treat is as a FW TL-hvybolter chimera...i think its like 5-10 pts more for the TL turret.

top deck needs another coat of paint...

need to So repaint the inside of this thing...

Demolisher getting new engine gubbinz, like the turret, i hated the way the metal front just kinda stuck to it, so i added to the turret to make it look more built in...

My Russ "Two Star" before the redux

Vanqusiher, patterned after the FW models, i widen the turret and doubled the barrel at the muzzle dampener...now looking at it, the barrel still looks to short...

the only tank i have with engine detail...think i should have painted it before i put this thing together...Doh!

1st squad, just need to touch up the faces and they be done...only 9 more squads to go and all my heavy weapons...

working on basing my Heavy weapons squads on the larger base and have come up with a solution that looks alright enough.

using the older flat large base, i added a medium base to place the gunner on top of. I cut a notch into a Medium base to allow the loader to fit onto the base and help it appear leveled with the gunner...

Looks like your off to a good start with your Tallarn. Never been a fan of them but I sure do like any IG armor.

Keep up the hard work.

Been hard at work with my Tallarn. I have gotten a few Medusa guns and more tanks (exterminator and demolisher) and chimeras. those need to be assembled along with a whole platoon of Cadians to hold the line while my Tallarn's flank in a tide of Chimeras...buts that's tactics and that's for another thread...
But with all those new armoured goodies i have my first Valk, painted up to match my bleach bone army, with some Macross shouts. Mainly the nose art of "Monster Girl" from the Macross Frontier anime and macross style helmet paint scheme and the fighting kites insignia. magnets were used in the gun mount and flying base.

some of my finished chimeras with my valk

monster girl with the multilaser in place

more of monster girl with the weapon removed...

top down view

the bottom white hull, you can see the four magnets that i put in the lower hull, those match up with four smaller magnets in the flyer base, in the pic...

head on with canopies off, if you look, the front sill you will see a tiny piece of brass, the pin that helps hold the front canopy in place.

the base sports a blown up and half buried Chimera, kinda points out that maybe flying there is safer...

another angle of base...

tank number 503 Hula Girl, still one of my most used Chimeras

Tank number 504 Belly Dancer, another favorite...maybe its the hull mounted hvy flamer that I use quite often

Really like the names I'm sure I remember Hula Girl from one of the stories. Are you planning on adding some skimmers to this force?

my ever glacial progression of tanks, projects keep be busy along with some contract construction. But today i bring you Old boy, tank number 221. Its one of my oldest 40k kits, a demolisher tank, brand new from when it originally launched...anyone remember the original rules that made you park it before you can fire, because the massive cannons recoil would flip it on its lid if you fried while moving...I was never able to fire it until the latter end of 3-4th edition...so this old tank has a lot of history behind it, along with some nice build ideals, i never liked the way GW just kinda threw together a giant metal barrel and just glued the damn thing to the front of the turret. It looked like what it was, instead of a part of the tank. So it went to work with plasticard and added tot he turret to make it look more beefed up, along with some rear engine hatch mods. I have a 2nd gen demolisher NiB waiting construction and was thinking of getting the latest 3rd generation Demolisher so i can field all three version of the tank in a squad...

close up of the upper turret, built a new forward view port and added the laser targeter (little red dot next to the forward sight)

rear close up of the engine compartment, that was part of a SM sponson and a russ front hull hatch and come cut plasti-tubeing to armor the exhaust

full side view, more turret detail can be seen...pipeing and such, i extended the armor around the base of the barrel back an extra 1/2 inch or so to make it look more at home on the tank...

front view, i replaced the lascannon with a Guard HW squad one, my other tanks sport the metal lascannon barrels off a old 2nd gen predator. i never liked the freakishly large lascannon barrels the Russes came with.

and if anyone knows the movie Old Boy, the tank is also named after that flick... more to come, just gimmie some time...
