It's not as good as the old one. Those guardsmen look really weedy and their bayonets are too long. Is this by the guy who did the slowed bolter artwork for a new Spase Marienz (hurr) series?

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Yeah they should of added the regimental insignia's and colors. That kinda killed it haha. It also reminds me of the warhammer empire codex.

The designer have pretty bad taste, the left tank is cropped off, the right tank is covered by the silly commander and commisar.

i mean ... this isnt some viral shot of Cloverfield again...

There should be more tanks too.

Yeah, but I'll buy it anyway.

And probably a guard army to go with it.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

At least John Blache didn't do it. The entire codex would be in varying shades of BROWNRED and REDBROWN.

Wow missed that there was no insignia on the flags. I hope that it doesn't stay like that, but knowing GW it will. I feel like taking the cover off the current one and pasting it over that one when it comes out.

Couldn't care less. I don't judge Codices by their covers. I judge them by what's inside. I mean, the 'Chaos' Codex has a great cover that conjures up images of the glorious 2nd Ed Chaos TOME. The inside is complete gak though.

[EDIT]: Just saw that they're holding up a white flag. Guess that makes then French-Cadian.

I judge all books by their covers, you should all do the same.

I have to agree with HBMC. I have a huge painted guard army that I want to play with. For all I care, they could put the Emperor's Poofiest Fops, aka the Liberace XXVth, on the cover, resplendent in their finery while ineffectively slapping at the enemy. Not that this is that far off, but it just doesn't bother me much.

It honestly still could be a placeholder image, I've seen that done with RPG books all the time, even after it has hit the printer. Time will tell though.

If it is the actual image however, well it's not that great, but whoop dee doo, it's the content that matters after all.

Either it's me, or the artstyle is pretty old? I mean look at the space marine and ork one.

I love my IG, but compared to Eldar, SM, Chaos, Ork, ect. This cover is subpar :(

Well, seeing as how the thread is about the cover (an actual pic!), I shall limit commentary to exactly that:
When I take mine to Kinko's and have the binding sliced off and re-bound spiral, this cover will not be making the "cut".

Well... GW should consider that covers can sell in the shops. Take the SM codex cover for example. Most people think *OMG such a cool picture that army is awesome!!*

Well maybe with all those guard and almost no tanks, they are trying to say "we are taking IG to a new level! They can actually fight!"
Tho Id still love to see them hold a line when a mob of boyz smash into um

That's because it was done by the same artist... I've said this before. Thankfully though they decided to add more contrast then the last time I saw this image. I am upset that they lack insignia, but whatever... if the codex is good then I'll buy it... if not... I'll likely buy because I'm going to need to keep up with the rules. Guardsmen, HO!

This codex picture is just a bad choice. It lacks a fixpoint and thus fails totally as a cover for an army.

I don't think the cover lacks a focal point, but rather there's more to the focal point then the other codices. I like it more than the current one because it shows more of the guardsmen and their command.

Like most others have said... It's contents are what really matter.

What is all that talk about "the content matters"? It's a thread about the freakin codex cover, the content is absolutely not the point here.

What is the supposed main figure in this picture?

I'm not sure, because the commander, the standard bearer or the first guardsmen could be the main figures.

That was the point I tried to make.

Hey, Schepp... It is about the cover, but the comments about it's contents are in reference to the age old saying 'you can't judge a book by its cover' because it seems that not many people like the cover.

Also... Can I get a mod in here to delete my thread? I noticed that it has become a repeat. :(

That cover is hideous. I am probably going to get it, though. I want to make a company of traitor guard to go with my chaos marines.

I think it captures the "idea" of the guard well, never ending hordes of infantry. Having 1 central figure doesn't capture the idea of the guard.

The main focal point, in my opinion, is the soldier in the lower left's face. It's an area of high contrast, and it's right in a "sweet spot" (1/3 X 1/3). He's the dog-soldier of the Imperium that is used as a typical example.
