I know the fluff reasons for their being no Female SM's but dont you think that the IG should have females

When you think about it the Russians in WWII used women in the army and IIRC they were very effective infact as i understand it all their female fighter pilots were Aces

I cant see a reason why the Imperium would not use women in the IG

What ya ll think

I am out of touch with it, last time I played we had squats, trikes, ratlings and robots....
Dreadnoughts had twin bolters mounted on the back of there hands, Guardsmen carried Lascannons and Heavy Bolters on their shoulders and sentinels has Assault cannons...
Ahhh so many fond memories, So many dead eldar.....

Actually, there's fluff indicating that there ARE coed IG, up to and including the Tanith First and Only, as well as a mention that "Mixed Companies tend to breed problems in their ranks" or something to that effect.

Why they don't have any female models for the Guard is completely beyond me, although doing a conversion from another kit wouldn't be impossible.

And even better, I can't see a reason why the Tau would not use women in the Gue'vesa.

I currently have a unit mix in my Gue'vesa of 50% dark skinned, 50% light skinned (Tau would appreciate the diversity), and you have now inspired me to create some female models to add to my Gue'vesa (varying skin color of course).

Last Chancers had two women in the box - Rocket Girl (who, had a missile launcher) and Warrior Woman (who had a lasgun). And the Catachan female with grenade launcher. IG has women. Under all that bodyarmor and fatigues, can you tell the difference though?

According to fluff, while not every worlds IG have female Guardspersons ( ) due to the vast array of societies, female regiments are far from unheard of, and while mixed units are rare, in the Imperium of Man just calling something rare means there are still quite a few.

yeah. and it's only sensible that an organization like the IG would take everybody who's willing not to be staring down a firing squad... but indeed, it does seem somewhat challenging to actually convert a cadian to look female

Easy to convert actually. Take heads from Sisters of Battle, attach to standard Imp. Guard bodies.

Sure, they're lacking the upper female attachments, but the long hair and feminine faces should be giveaway enough.

You call taking a $4 metal model, chopping off the deeply molded in metal head without horribly mutilating it, and getting it to fit on a $2 guardsman easy? Not to mention that not all SoB have un-helmeted heads.

I gotta say, this debate has been had a number of times....and each time I feel myself getting irritated by the sheer stupidty of GW ideology to avoid producing female models.

I always put it down to a lack of talent within the GW design staff, and actually, judging by the standard (male) miniatures they throw out I can find no other suitable explanation for it.

If you do however, want to use "counts as" miniatures from another, more able, miniature supplier you'll be glad to hear that other companies don't shy away from the female form, AND have the expertise to create them as well.

GWs loss is their gain!

Che-Vito: This Mod may be easy to do but very costly if you don't have the money. like ph34r said if it's metal then you may have some problems doing this mod. but when dealing with plastic it is a little easier.

You could look for other models in other game systems and try converting them. I'm not sure who has what but do the research and you may find what your looking for.

True, if you wanted to make an ALL female IG army, this would be prohibitively expense, or even more than a couple of individual minis. This IS an easy mod, if simply adding 1 or 2 female IG per squad of 10. For one female IG per squad (to add a bit of flavour), this would be roughly $60 for 10 squads of 10. Expensive, but if you've already 100 IG, then you've dropped almost $200 already.

It's neither ideology or stupidity. Remember, Games Workshop is primarily a miniatures company. It's easy to include female Eldar / Dark Eldar on the plastic sprue; since the models are already somewhat feminine, and many wear helmets all you need is a "torso with breasts" piece and you're good to go.

Plastic female IG would require way more than just a torso piece. You'd need a separate set of faces, and possibly thinner arms and legs.

yeah. though it would be awesome, an additional IG females unit just wouldn't be cost effective.
additionally, it at least could indeed be conceded that one might just go for the occasional woman IG, as opposed to a full force.

In war times , i thought generally females stay at factories or atleast out of front lines. Basically due to the need to repopulate the devastated casualties?

Would make sense that if anyone is needed to maintain equipments / or manafacture stuff, it would be pregnant women not in the state of combat?

Well, thats a very 2nd millennium view of things.

The Imperium sure as hell aren't gonna say "Sorry auld gal/young lady/baby factory you cant fight cause you have mammaries/breasts/stonking great tits"

As for the "repopulating worlds" malarkey, no point in taking 75% of the blokes and leaving the women. Not enough men around and you end up with 50% of the women doing nothing useful.

Best example we have atm I can see would have to be the Israeli army. They don't care if your a woman or a bloke, you go into the front lines just like everyone else.

I am sure even in an "all Male" regiment there will be nurses and such, but there will be just as many men being medics too.

Also, I highly doubt anyone woman or man is let anywhere NEAR where the Tech Priests make the stuff (and we know from the Cain series they too aren't too discriminatory regarding gender either).

And to address the "Pregnant women on the front line thing" such a situation is alluded too in one of the Cain Books (seriously excellent reads pick them up) so we know it could happen. I guess that, in the interest of both making sure the soldier, soldiers baby and her squadmates dont risk being killed because of it, they will probably be assigned desk duties (yup, they have them too) or as aides to top officials, or hell a 9 month stint in the medics tent.

Very true for outside (as in not in the battle zone) countries LunaHound, such as UK and USA...

However, during WWII, the Soviet Army had every able female in the front line with a gun, while the not so able worked in the factories as you said.

And in current Israel, they conscript everyone (male OR female) that is medically fit... end of story.

In modern day armies, the female ratio is about 5%... in Israel its 40%.

Yup that is very true. Having (Great) grandparents who actually grew up and lived in the period of 1917 to 1945 I know from 1st hand stories about the propaganda and tales of heroism by the female soviet troops.

In many ways, the Imperial Guard are based off the WW2 Soviet era armies. Commissars, the structure of it, the way each soldier is told straight up they are just cogs in a machine for the glory of the Motherland.

I remember my Great Grandfather telling me about how as a Private in the army, the attached commissar did execute a "coward" officer and got the men to rally, and were able to take out a German gun emplacement that would have otherwise decimated half the platoon.

It honestly sounded like something out of a 40k game.

And another story about such a woman (not my great grandmother sadly ) who due to combat attrition, was attached to a squad of men, and racked up more kills than all the men combined.

Edit #9001: ok Srsly, whoever broke the width with pictures please fix it :(

That's the beauty of retcon

Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with saying there are no female SM. It's not "sexist" or any of that bs, its simply because, the Emperor was male. Retooling his DNA to that degree to create a female primarch probably was not "cost effective" because of the damage done to the genetic code.

"Female Space Marines" now come in the form of Sisters of Battle, and to be honest, I love their fluff much much more than any sort of generic Female space marine crap
