Well, it looks good so far.

Here's hoping that the GW Legal team doesn't jump on it like a pack of ravenous wolves.

The Imperial Aquila on the bottom of the page for one thing. GW Legal doesn't take kindly to folks that they perceive as infringing upon their IP.
Although I believe they generally give priority to people who are making money off it somehow or another (ie:They allowed TSoaLR to continue to operate, but would not allow the author to publish and sell a book of his collected comics.)

In any case it doesn't mean they would necessarily shut the site down - they could just send them a firmly worded e-mail to the tune of "Please remove such and such copyrighted image from your website."

But yes the artwork is very, very nice. the website is nice and slick, and I have already added the RSS to my Feeds Folder.

Well, I certainly hope so, but I refer you to the case of Damnatus:

Damnatus was started by dozens of young fans of the game back in 2003 with a 10,000 EUR budget raised through the Sphaerentor website and private investors. Sphaerentor was also the starting, organizational and recruiting point for the dark atmospheric tale. Made with live actors and locations, the digital post-production done on home computers, Damnatus was looking to be one of the better and more promising example of the fan movie genre. Hell, it even got a blessing from Games Workshop as long as it remained non-commercial. No problem, right?

Well, there wasn’t until Games Workshop contacted the Damnatus makers in 2005 about the wording of the disclaimer at the start of the film. From there the relationship deteriorated, moving through discussions about German copyright law, communication breakdowns, talks resuming, ending (so far) with Games Workshop not only banning the release of Damnatus but all fan films in general. “We love our fans, but have to protect our intellectual property blah blah blah …” Waves of protest and outrage predictably sweep through the community of those who made Warhammer 40,000 what it is today.

Emphasis mine.

Also on the BBC:
Andy Jones wrote:"To lose control of Warhammer or Warhammer 40,000 is simply unthinkable.
So we must be vigilant, and perhaps sometimes seemingly heartless in our decisions to safeguard the IP for the future success of the business and the hobby."

So, again...I certainly hope it doesn't happen. The comic looks like it has a lot of potential.

Just sayin' G-Dub Legal don't play no games. (Oh sweet irony...)

EDIT: Urgh..Typos seem to happen a lot more often at 3 AM.

Bringing up Damantus is a Little unfair.
The Creators of Damantus were more than Willing to relinquish any and all rights to GW IP, but were unable to due to German Copyright law. Thats why It was scuppered.

True enough.

I bring it up merely to point out:
a.) The sweeping reaction of banning ALL fan films rather than just not allowing Damantus to be shown.
and
b.) the Andy Jones quote.

Of course according to their own IP policy (which maybe I should have looked at before posting the last bit):

What you can and can't do with GW'S IP wrote:
Web Comics

We would probably not take issue with anyone creating a web comic based upon our intellectual property - but as with forums, keep in mind that the hobby is for people of all ages. Please be careful of the language used and the topics discussed. We would strongly recommend that you avoid any topics concerning illegal behavior, obscenity, or libel.

So, you are probably right, the disclaimer will likely be enough. The aquila, upon reflection, is a bit muddier. There are harsh restrictions against using GW art, but they encourage folks to draw their own version instead. Aquilas are obviously not too terribly difficult to draw, but if it looks exactly like the original...

So, I don't know...but probably not a problem.

Hahaha!

But really... why talk about legal action? Talk about the comic! It's good! We all know GW is some mystical omnipotent being (reference Q from Star Something...), but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy some good natured humour at their expense (not monetary expense, that would be wrong!)

...hah!

But seriously. It's a good comic and I can't wait to see more.

[debate mode] Well, really with a non-commercial web-comic such as GTG I don't think it would matter how good of a case they had. Assuming that they did actually follow through and take the case to court rather than simply "cease and desist" they would be mired down in huge legal fees - which ,being that it's a non-commercial entity, would probably be too much for the proprietor to bear. Frankly, in cases of "one-shotters" (Such as GTG) vs. "repeat players" (Such as GW) the repeat player always has the advantage, regardless of the quality of their argument. [/debate mode]

But as I stated earlier, after I actually read through GW's IP policy, I concede that a legal confrontation will probably not be an issue for GTG (thankfully.) So I'm sorry if I pulled the thread down into OT/distraction land.

[on topic] I really liked the first strip. The art is excellent, and it's actually funny! Bookmarked. [/on topic]
