I think some humans are good, some humans are evil, and some humans are neutral. Some might also be chaotic or lawful.

Please, talk amongst yourselves.

Humans are animals. We are semi-predators without the usual built in inhibitors about wacking our own kind. We survive because we are the strongest. Proper civilization and religion protects us from ourselves.

Yes, but without proper religion and such we would kill each other. Look at the BTK killer. He was a chap who went to church regularly, but decided to kill anyways. While even the goodie-two-shoes we know could even think about killing someone just for the heck of it. Look at superheroes and how they are tempted to kill. They are supposed to be good guys, but still feel the urge. That is why I believe that ALL humans are inherently evil.

Then what I would ask is why humans are inherently evil and why humans are here.

I would say that humans are 'inherently good' (whatever that means) when concerned with things they consider their own or like them. What each person considers their own or like them varies from person to person and does not necessarily follow a logical pattern.

Why are humans here? Does there need to be a reason?

Destroying something for ones own selfish needs? I'd call that Evil.

Destroying the planet so that we can survive may look good on paper, but when our survival does nothing but translate into the destruction of the planet's ecosystem we're not accomplishing much. Nothing good anyway.

When humanity does something good for the Universe, come back and talk to me about not being evil. Free porridge for the homeless doesnt count as being good, since they're just useless humans as well, farting and eating to sustain their own worthless existances as well.

Life serves no purpose, and should be destroyed. The Terminators have it right!

Not evil, just inherently self interested with few inborn inhibitors like other predators, with a roach like ability to survive. The fact we've even built a society to limit those excesses shows our capacities above nature.

So we're just a 'little' evil. Not as evil as roaches (who are downright demonic in their nature), but evil nontheless.

No by your definition there can be no good life. How is life going to help dirt? Inversely, but its very nature there can be no bad life. Life can't hurt dirt either. In the end, its just dirt.

Ahh, the age-old inherently good vs inherently evil question.

I'm with mr. Pratchett on this one. Humans are neither inherently good nor inherently evil. They're inherently human.

Dirt also hates rocks. Rocks are so elitist. Sedimentary rock especially, as its just compacted dirt. Sedimentary is evil as its the worst of both worlds-elitist because its rock, and sick and twisted because its made of the corpses of dirt. What kind of sick twisted rock does that? Sedimentary thats who!

Personally i dispise humanity as a whole (although there are individuals i like) .
we have actually WIPED out species, no other animal has ever done that.
we are super predators without the instincts that tell us when to stop hunting, too powerfull for our own good.

Of course other animals have done it. Thats how evolution works. New predators and parsites put pressure on species forcing it to evolve (a form of death of the original species) or die.

A species' worst competition is its own species. We just use bombs instead of teeth, claws, or poison.

I would argue that humans are not good or evil. They are either self-absorbed or not. Those who only care about personal gain over the well being of those around them are capable of anything. Those who care more for others end up working for the company that the previously mentioned person runs. If you want to know who is evil and who isn't. Look at history. The winners are always the good people and the losers are always the evil ones. Perspective is everything. One mans villain is another's hero.

I don't see how you can classify a predator hunting for food as evil. If the lion could pull out a Visa, and buy a burger, I'm sure they would. The gazelle is the closest thing to a burger they can wrap their claws around.

From the film blood diamond: "my heart tells me humans are inherintly good, my experice tells me otherwise." I find exactly the same, although my definition of good and bad is probably different to most. For example my best friend throughout uni dealt drugs, and not just soft ones. Yet although many would class a drug dealer as a bad person I find him to be one of the nicest people I have ever met. On the other hand I have also crossed supposed 'well doers' who sleep around behind their wives back and tell me about it as if I'm supposed to be impressed. Having been brought up by a single mother I have found a certain amount of respect for women and as such I despise people like that.

Then there are the complete morons (im talking about the sort of muppets you get on jeremy kyle) who aren't necisarilly bad but still manage to hammer down my view on humanity. And there are tons of them.

And then there are the good people which to a certain extent are the only reason I bother.

How many species can you name that weren't wiped out by other species? Allosaurs were wiped out long before the great hunk O dirt fell from the sky. Not a lot of water scorpions wandering around from the Pre-cambrian are there?

How many animals have been wiped out by diseases?

if you must know water scorpians died out mostly because of lowering oxygen levels in both the water and air, allosaurs were outcompeted be other more advanced and suitible predators.

Yeh the statement that humanities actions are just like any other species in nature is a bit flawed. Humanities evolution is evidence of nature overtaking itself and creating something which doesn't fit.

The thought that mass extinction is a bad thing? Ludicrous. It's happened over and over. Even if WE'RE the cause of the next one, it's how life works. Even if we ourselves are a part of the next one, it's still how life works. Maybe the next dominant species will do 'better', and the ecosystem it flourishes in will last all the way until the next planet killer asteroid, or megavolcano eruption or what-have-you occurs. I feel bad that species go extinct, but only because then I'll never be able to see what one tastes like.

Humans are inherantly evil, because we are inherantly sinners. We inherited the capacity for evil from our parents, and their parents etc. There are people that do good things for sure, but they still do evil because they can't help but to do evil. Also there are people that go way overboard on the evil thing, serial killers, Hitleresqe dictators, etc.
