Most movie-based games I play are really bad. Transformers for example; awkward gameplay and a time limit on every mission. Truly an awful game. However, I have played some decent or even good ones. Eragon was OK, the dialogue was bad, but it was way better than the movie.
Return of the King was awesomesauce. It seemed like a boring hack-and-slash at first, but I had loads of fun. It was really challenging, too. There were a few things you had to figure out for yourself (like how to defeat trolls safely).
Anyone else had fun when it comes to movie games?

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I've never bothered. When a game is released before the movie, that generally means it was only in development for a few months. IE, there will be almost no depth, and the graphics will just be average.

Riddick doesn't count as a movie-game because it's more of a spin-off series.

Dune 2 by westwood was great back in the day. Battle for Middle Earth on PC was fairly decent imho too though both are the game of the film of the book so I dont know if it counts.

what do you mean? spin off of what. Vin did voice work for it. It's just as much a movie game as anything else I would think.

Butcher Bay is the great example of how tie-ins to movies should be.

Robocop 3 on the Amiga was pretty good. It came out a year or two before the movie (as the film sunk into development hell).

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Spider-Man 2 had the best swining mechanics of all Spidey games. The rest was meh...
Right now I can't think of anything good, but the Wolverine game got pretty good reviews.

Spiderman 2 and the first Dune game on PC are the only ones I can think of.
Wow this thread really show's what you shouldn't do with a movie license. I think it would have been easier to talk about bad games, but this is good for the brain (as in trying to remember any at all).

Making true conversions of movies into games will always suck, making a tie-in works much better.

Directly based off of a movie? Goldeneye, Return of the King.
BrookM wrote:Making true conversions of movies into games will always suck, making a tie-in works much better.
Totally agree. Look at Alien vs Predator 2. Took elements from movies but produced an original plot and alot of original elements. And the result? It kicked ass.
The new Batman Game looks pretty good from trailers (but i'll reserve my full judgement until i play it) and like AVP2, It's based on an original plot.
Basically i just don't think movies and games really mesh together all that well. Using an original plot tailored to fit the main themes of the movie is definitely the way to go.

No. Eragon was a boring, repetive hack 'n' slash that I killed with fire and holy water. I still hold out hope though.
