I have this feeling that GW has a warehouse overflowing with Realm of Battle boards. I know my local GW store has a huge pile still laying around. Looks like they're again trying to bundle them with another product in order to move them.

GW need to get bold about announcing new stuff and actually include the final price. Not some error price. Not some lower, then changed to the 'actual' price.
They're the only game in town, so they need to live up to that rep. Put that new Landspeeder up at $48 from the beginning or don't bother.

That's their own fault. They could have moved them decently enough at $175, but for almost $300 there's no way. Even if they bundle it with other terrain it's still an overpriced board with the same few configurations, slopes your models won't sit on, and god damn freaking skull pits all over.

What I don't get is why they don't offer any sense of a discount on the bundles that include the battle board. When you break down the bundles:
Imperial Strongpoint: $90
2 Bastions: $59.50
3 Defense Lines: $59.25
Total: $118.75
Savings: $28.75
Imperial defense network- $559
2 Imperial strongpoints- $180
1 Landing Pad- $39.50
1 Bastion- $29.75
1 Defense Line- $19.75
1 Gameboard- $290
Grand Total- $559
Savings: $0
Imperial Outpost- $380
1 Imperial strongpoints- $90
1 Gameboard- $290
Total: $380
Savings: $0
The part that gets me is I like the gameboard. I was considering getting it when it was rumored to be ~$150-$200, but I won't pay $300 for it. I like the stuff coming out and will be getting at least 2 strongpoints and a landing pad (and probably more) and I appreciate the discount on the strongpoints. If I got a discount for buying them packaged together I would probably get a gameboard as well.
So why would anyone choose to buy the Imperial Outpost or Defense Network, the convenience of only having one box to carry around? It's not coming out early to appeal to those people who just need it a week before everyone else. It doesn't even include a crappy limited release aquilla keychain to at least make you feel like you got a deal.

I like it only because it is less "cluttered" than the new stuff and more like the old GW terrain they used to actually build in the studio. I'll at least get one at some point.
I plan to get two bastions definitely, but I don't need the defense lines as I have a ton of the FW stuff.
I wanna get a look at that gold eagle section on the shrine and see if it is usuable as part of a larger kitbashed double bastion I wanna build to be the centerpiece of my fortification with two regular bastions making up part of the defense line guarding it...

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |

GW would have to increase the savings of those board bundles to a few hundred to make me even consider buying them. Having no savings on already overpriced crap = not gonna sell any.

Agreed. If the boards had stayed at the $175 mark, they would have moved more. Now they have expensive dust collectors.

Wrong. There are plenty of dumb people out there who have more money than sense who will just go "ooh! shiny!" and buy them without sitting down and working out the individual costs involved. GW's Direct/promo bundles are often more dazzle than savings. They're just marketing tricks to get you to think you're getting something really great that you can't get anywhere else, when in fact it's not that great at all and you can get it or its equivalent elsewhere, and usually cheaper to boot.

The $48 thing is exaggeration....but just barely. GW have a really bad habit---and it's a habit because it happens fairly often----of announcing new shiny item This or That will sell for $X. Magically, when the thing comes out in the on-line store, the price is often much higher than the previously announced price. Turns out someone made an 'error'. They err quite a lot IMO.
They've done this with Battle of Five Armie ($50 initial announcement only to come out at $80); Realm of Battle; Great Swords; Valkyrie aircraft for IG and these are just the ones that stand out in my faulty memory.
