My favorite is HALO. It has a great story line but its so simple enough that you can understand it.(like star wars)
My second is saints row. Its customization feture is way better then gta and is storyline isnt the main focus of it like gta.

Command and Conquer, yes even generals.

Fallout, except for Tactics. There's also a massive soft spot for Company of Heroes and the Sims 2.

Final Fantasy
Followed closely by any old Bioware/Black Isle DnD Game - Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment etc
Oh and Fallout even tactics.

I would whole-heartedly agree except that it'd be cheap of me. I only played Fallout 2 after Fallout 3.

So, Elder Scrolls, except for the mobile ones (never played) and ::shiver:: Battlespire.

Red Alert: You can't beat Communism taking over the world.

Halo: Awesome gameplay and story. The novels really helped expand the story as well.

Mortal Kombat: Spine-rips, decapitations, and dismemberment, oh my! So much fun on a rainy day.

Resident Evil, as it got me into Zombies.
Legend of Zelda, as OoT was my first Video game, I think.
Timesplitters, for the fantastic Multiplayer. A shame it's gone.

Castlevania (favorite: Symphony of the Night) - started with NES Castlevania in 1987

Resident Evil (favorite: RE4 or Code Veronica) - started with Resident Evil for the Playstation in 1996

God of War (favorite: II) - started with original in 2005

Mega Man (favorite: MM2 and MM9) - started with Mega Man in 1988

Devil May Cry (favorite: DMC3) - started with Devil May Cry in 2001

Tecmo Bowl (favorite: Super Tecmo Bowl) - started with Tecmo Bowl in 1989

Metroid (favorite: Super Metroid) - started with Metroid in 1988

I do love a few of the Zelda games. I hope Modern Warfare 2 and Bioshock 2 are great games.

I think it'd have to be Final Fantasy.. the older ones more, such as VII and VIII.
The Total War games are also an adoration of mine, I love the way they are done, Empire being a very good continuation.(I consider it a series...Kinda)
I'll have to agree that the Fallout series are also very good, as well as Company of Heroes and Devil May Cry (ALthough verging on highly repetetive.)

Don't get me wrong, I think VII is great, but III (VI in Japan) for SNES is also awesome. Not really a Final Fantasy game per se, but Chrono Trigger might be the best one.


I love the Half-Life series, and Blizzard's stuff (StarCraft and Diablo especially).


In the 90's, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter was my thing. Get over here!

Fave - Dynasty Warriors without a shadow of a doubt, although being deeply into Chinese History helps there.

Others I feel I need to mention as they are just that darned good.

Resident Evil (before 4 when for some blinkin reason they decided this game is too slow, lets add more action.)

Final Fantasy for me , simply based on the amount of games from the series i played.

There are some that i also like but they really should make more of...

I've also noticed alot of people have mentioned halo. When i played halo 3 i found the story a bit weak, the multiplayer a bit meh, and the game itself was way too short. Does anyone else get this when you play? And what were the other two games like?

Quite honestly, I think Halo is one of the most overrated series ever. The gameplay might be decent for a console shooter (which are generally pretty terrible), but it doesn't do anything new whatsoever (More than one PC shooter tops it in graphics, story, and gameplay), and the sequels are mostly glorified and over-hyped expansion packs, rather than new games. Halo 2 is basically Halo with a few new weapons, rather than a new game. Compare Halo and Halo 2 to Half-Life and Half-Life 2 and you'll see what I mean.

Now, I'm not saying that Halo is a bad game, or that it's not entertaining, obviously many people enjoy it. However, it seems like I hear a lot of people claiming that it's the best game series ever, or ground-breaking in some way. The former is admittedly based primarily on opinion, but I think the latter is pretty clearly not the case.
