Full Metal Battle Sport
Bellevue WA. June 30, 2009—Privateer Press is pleased to announce Grind, an extreme combat sports board game for two players ages 14 and up releasing this October. In Grind players customize a team of steamjacks—10-ton, steam-powered mechanical robots—and battle to move a large, spiked ball into their opponent’s goal. The game comes with several highly detailed plastic components, including six Runner steamjack figures, four Crusher steamjack figures, 32 interchangeable weapon arms, two spiked pillars, and the Grinder ball. Also included are a full-color game board, 11 tokens, and custom dice.
When asked about the design behind Grind, Privateer Press Game Development Manager Erik-Jason Yaple said, “As we were developing Grind we looked at nearly every sport in existence for inspiration. Grind borrows from American and international football, rugby, billiards, hockey, and even stock car racing. The game delivers aggressive, in-your-face action as players slam and bash their steamjacks into each other. At the same time, it rewards careful planning and strategy as players try to get the Grinder across the playing field and into their opponent’s goal while the clock is running down. And thanks to the incredible amount of steamjack customization, players can build the team that suits their play style right out of the box.”

I never did get to try Grind when it was just a variation of play. I'm looking forward to this release to actually be able try Grind in a more organized fashion.
BTW I think GW would have pounced on them a while back when PP came up with the play format.

I don't recall Bloodbowl having too many steam powered robots, so I think they're fairly safe.

OK, tongue was a little bit in cheek with that but it does strike me as an odd decision for PP to make to try and go head to head with blood bowl.
If they wanted to make a board game based on their IP, wouldn't it have been better to do something that their biggest rival doesn't do. Maybe a dungeon crawler/special forces type game where the models were compatible with normal WM/Hordes?
P.S. I know that Space Hiulk is rumoured to make a comeback but I was thinking more along the Warhammer Quest line...

I believe they first showed this as an article in NQ magazine a few years back.
Competing with BB? Heck, having a game on the shelves will beat out BB. It's been sad to see how GW handles their non core games.

Is this the first time they've done their jacks in plastic?
Lack of plastic was one of the things keeping me away.

Retribution will be the first plastic jacks, then this. It's possible that they have other faction jacks lined up and just haven't mentioned it yet.
I could be wrong though as I haven't kept up on the latest PP news.

They've released some official shots on their website now, as well as a trailer. From what I can tell, the steamjacks look pretty nice.

I was sort of writing this off as a blatant blood bowl clone, but I think i'm actually going to get this provided it has a solid rule set. I was hooked once I saw that a portion of the game would revolve around outfitting your team of jacks with different arms. Hopefully the customization system is decent and not something that feels like it is tacked on. At the very least it provides for the possibility of expansion pieces. I also like that they're using colored plastic. That really gives the impression of it being a board game, rather than a hobby game that will require assembly (like the Blood Bowl starter set.)

LOL. The trailer, on a whole was a joke - particularly the first 30 seconds. Grind is a board game, not a video game - so why even bother with the CGI recreation of a Grind match? I'd rather see more and better pictures of what is included in the box, and maybe an overview of play (since i'm not familiar with Grind or any of PP's stuff.)

Offhand the background for the game doesn't really suit Cryx or any of the Hordes factions, but Mercenaries, or even teams for the big cities seem to be a natural fit.

All three warjacks are variants made from the same plastic kit. This should be the first

We already know thew asthetic of Khador and Cygnar warjacks so the Retribution warjacks will only really be a guide to mould quality and detail level.
I'm not really seeing how this will work beyond the box, will 'Grind' warjacks be a whole new product line entirely seperate to Warmachine warjacks?
