Well my local store runs a 1250 point league over 8 weeks due to start last night and lists were to be in the week before, now my mate (Just started playing 2 weeks ago) asked if he could hand his in the weekend before (3 days late) as he needed some help to make a list as he is new, and the store owner said "No, if i make an exception, i would have to make one for everyone" so we left it at that till i went to the store this morning, and found out he had made an exception for 8 to 10 people. Then he got up me for the fact i withdrew from it cause of it saying i was being selfish, and that i wouldn't be able to "hack" the extra competition when I withdrew due to the fact that the week before he refused to make that exception. If my mate is not good enough to enter then neither am i

I find communication key.

Instead of withdrawing, you could point out to him that 8 people had exceptions... why is your friend still out?

See what he says to that next time.

Our LGS had copy of the 6th edition HE book on the shelves. A guy asked if it was the 7th edition book, they said it was, and he bought it. Not five minutes later, while still in the shop, someone else pointed out to him that it wasn't the new book, it was actually the old one. He walked across the room to ask the same guy, the store owner no less, for a refund and to see about ordering the new book. The owner just told him matter-of-factly "No refunds". He hasn't set foot in the store since, and I can't blame him.

Well, sometimes the staff can seemingly ignore your requests and instead shove your face full of "OMG HAS U SEEN DIS NEW KIT WITH ALL DEM BITS AND OPTIONS ON IT OMFG", despite you telling them to shove off. Though in general it could just be that the store in question just got an influx of new tools to staff the store.

WOW! That is a massive d-bag move on the store owners part.

The only thing that I can recall is back when I used to play Legend of the Five Rings CCG. There was a limited production set that came out, available only to Imperial Herald subscribers. The Imperial Herald is to L5R as White Dwarf is to 40K / WFB / LotR. Anyway... It came out just a month after my subscription expired, so I unfortunately missed out. The FLGS owner had one he was willing to sell for $200, because he saw one go for that amount on eBay. Well, GenCon was coming up and it was rumored that the AEG both was going to have tons of sets to sell at $75, to anyone who might have missed out, like me. I tried to make a deal with the FLGS owner that I would agree to pay his asking price for the set, but I wanted to see if I could get one at GenCon first. In which case he told me that if I wait he's not going to sell it to me. Reluctantly I bought it since I couldn't be sure it the rumor was true, let alone if they'd have any left by the time I got to the booth. I got to GenCon and AEG had hundreds of the sets sitting there. Needless to say I was a left feeling a little bitter.

Yeah that's a dick move on the part of the owner of that store. However, Caveat Emptor is the word to heed here. Let the buyer beware. the seller is only looking out for his benefit, even if he tells you he's doing you a favor, it's only a favor that involves benefit to him mainly.. Still, I'd avoid a store who's owner is that unscrupulous.. He's obviously a devious person in the long run and his practice of deceipt will include his management practices too.

I disagree, I go to a nice small LGS and the owner there is excellent. If there is a problem with his product (aka wrong edition) then he is the first one to give you a refund. I actually was missing a part of a Hive Tyrant in a box I bought from him, brought it to his attention and right then he called his supplier and told him to fix it. Then he gave me a refund, gave me the box of bits of the Hive Tyrant, and gave me an apology.

It sucks that your guys and gals LGS is not quite an FLGS.

Lone Star Comics(') are a local chain around here that entirely suck. I was a store manager for a while, and I got to see first hand exactly how much they try to screw their [gaming] customers. With much better stores like Area 51 and Gen X, there's no reason to set foot in there.

Even though he doesn't play GW games, he has done the bare minimum to support WHFB.

He also has occasionally talked down 40k and turned off more than a handfull of people from the game.

All things considered though, him and his wife are very cool and have really worked with the GW players lately to have more events and time allotted to 40k events. We've even had two tourneys in the last year when we've never had one there in the last ten years.

Had a LGS back in Columbia, SC that seemed great at first visit. The owner wasn't all that interested in actually cutting a profit for various reasons (I got a couple different stories, none of them really relevant here), so he instituted the policy of the "magic cash register". Basically, make a big purchase, get a big discount. And I mean silly discounts, on the first "buy-in" type purchase. Cool. Until I went in there a week later in uniform. And the owner immediate begins ranting about how much he hates the military. I walked out, and decided that while he is free to do exactly what he did, I was similarly free to take my money and time elsewhere. feth him. And then I found Heroes and Dragons and later on Borderlands when I moved to Greenville. Both are excellent stores. H&D especillay was great with their Wargames Widows support network. My wife used ot come in while I was playing and relentlessly got sucked into all kinds of games going on. The end.

This begs a follow up. In exactly what way have they screwed their gaming customers. We need examples, so that we can recognize if a store is trying to screw us or not.

Misery. Missouri. Who can tell the difference.

One of the stores near me, the owner carries paint and some boxes but nothing else. You ask him to order something and check back in three or four weeks he would say, "Oh it's on it's way." then check back the next week, "What was it you ordered? Oh I forgot to order it." Lets say I do not buy at the store because he doesn't know how to run a business. It feels more like a club house with WoW and high speed Pron and not a business.

Second, in the other stores what gets me is customers and fans that stop in just to talk to the shop owner. This is not a problem except that they tie up his time that could be used to helping paying customers or keeping a eye on the stock since his stuff has started to be stolen since the economy has tanked in the area.

Third, what kills me is that I spend hours on assembly on a model like my Flakk Trakk and those d*mn stuck up soccer moms drop off her 12 year old with 15 dollars at the store like it is a babysitter (so she can go home and have fun with pool guy) and that damn kid's grubby sweaty digits grabs the model with his vise grip but suprisingly clumsy grasp and goes, "WHAT'S THAT! OUCH!" the model hit's the floor "sorry..." and walks off. I don't blame the kids, I blame those damn moms what should not shoot out their daemon seed husband traps if they do not want to raise those little genetic monsters. It's a weekend, there are things called soccer, t-ball, ect. till their motorskills and social skills have improved till they can go to a store without breaking a model worth more than what their mom lost her v*rgin*ty for (rented movie, wine coolers and burger king). Sorry for the rant but I hate game store kids and their moms.

Lastly, the what kills me is when a player comes up with something funny for a piece of wargear. For example, an IG player modeling a sucide bomber which counts as a satchel charge and everytime one is thrown he would make a high pitch noise then, "Alli Ackbar! BOOM!" This might be amusing yet very tacky once but when your Apoc army has twenty of these all going off in one turn. You can guess the amount of violence you want to commit on that lonely 45 year old parent's basement renter and how much damage you can do with a tape measure and flame template.

Thanks for dealing with my rant.

My FLGS is awesome.

A few weeks ago I asked if they could get me a Privateer Press direct only product that stores usually can't carry; they couldn't, but the owner ordered one for me at retail cost with his own credit card.

Mostly just, writing down my orders/phone number, and never actually ordering them.

I'm pretty sure I should have about a dozen of the same model if the store filled out the actual order.

I'm all for supporting my LGS but, you know, eventually you have to concede.

Also pointless rules debates, i.e. everyone still thinking skimmers still don't block LOS like in 4th edition, despite this rule being axed in the latest.

The owner of my FLGS occasionally is a bit of a dick about ordering stuff for me.

I eventually buy it, I just like to buy stuff in stages as I paint it. I can understand it though. I did order three boxes of Chaos Spawn once and only bought two, he still brings it up. But I'm gonna buy the last box for some conversion stuff soon.

Other than that, I love my FLGS. I got offered some part time work there recently too. I've known the owner for a good seven years, before he even opened his shop. We played competitive magic together for awhile too.

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

No refunds... They lied about the product. What is the name of this store? I would like to know.

One of my local FLGS are just run by a bunch of meanies. They do not seem to understand they are running a business, and acting like a snob loses a lot of customers. The fact that the WH40k room is used for storage, in the back, with florescent lights, and in the way to the bathroom, bodes quite badly for my use of their store. The fact remains that I don't think they actually want new gamers there, it seems like an L33T club or something.

On the other hand I found a new store with beautiful tables, and sky-lighting, so guess where I go now . Some of these hobby shops need to stop pretending like they care about their WH40k customers, and just get rid of the product line altogether.

LAME... I would never play TFG besides to poke a few holes in the EGO every now and then. What you should all do is start a private club at someones house, so TFG has to play all by his lonesome. If your store cares that much about ONE customer, they won't mind losing all of the others.

I love my local GW for the most part. My only beef is that somebody can be cheating their ass off, informed by the staff of what they're doing wrong, but continue to cheat, and they never get kicked out of the store. I know it's about money, but damn... I get tired of getting burned every three or four games because the store havens cheaters.

I hate to start a "pointless rules debate" in this thread, but do you mind enlightening me? Because I don't see how it was "axed" with 5th edition, I've looked it up and the only thing it says that even pertains to skimmers and LOS is on the page where it talks about granting the enemy cover for firing through intervening units. With TLOS I can see under my skimmers if they're tall enough to see under, and using GW bases they are, so...what's the problem? No one I've played with has had any problems with this, and it's never mattered anyway since I'm bringing Tau to the table and I'm not going to win regardless.
