Why do people play the cheaters? A simple no will suffice, and if the store says some nonsense just post the info here on DakkaDakka. My LGS is usually pretty great. Never had problems there. The only time it gets "weird" is either on the way in, the train guys always give you the look for some reason. And there is one employee that is just....... ANNOYING. But if thats all I got to bitch about Im doing good!

Every time I've played a cheater it's the first or second time I've played them. There's quite a bit of traffic through my local GW. Always a cast of new faces with a few regulars. I'll either end up burnt by a cheater because I didn't know they cheated or I'm giving a player that previously cheated a second chance to see if any of the cheats I pointed out in the original game were mistakes and they've since changed their ways. I might play a cheater twice for that reason, but never a third time if they continued to cheat. Most of the time it's just because I didn't know any better. It just fires me up because if I'm going to make the effort to pack up my army, battle Houston traffic for up to an hour (8 freakin miles and it can take up to an hour!) and make an army to play against somebody, I want a fun and honest game. If somebody is found to be a habitual cheater they should be asked not to play in the store anymore, so people that may not know them don't get a crappy experience. Maybe the staff, who see these people alot more often than I do could come up with a signal or something.

Cheater: "Anybody want to play a game, 1500 points?"
Staff: Coughs twice and scratches their head indicating the person cheats, or is guilty of general D-baggery.

My flgs ain't too bad. The biggest problem we have is ordering new stuff. It takes a while but I think it's honest forgetfulness (the owner helps to run 3 stores and works for his father on the side).

Actually our store manager is very cool. When I bought my first tyrant I mentioned that I wanted to make it a winged one and he looked through his bitz box and gave me a pair. Very cool.

They should really have a list, unfortunately that is pretty unlikely. There is no other proper way, and people are likely to get offended with or without the list. Weird phenomenon really, because most people make mistakes once in a while, but TFG makes a religion (with themselves as a deity) out of the whole operation. 10 customers is a billion times better than one customer, regardless of their "account" size. Remember that a person who buys any WH40k stuff, can potentially be worth more than that one TFG who spends all of their extra money on WH40k; besides the fact that no one should be spending all of their extra money on plastic and metal toys, it is just an unhealthy obsession at that point. Perhaps some are true collectors, but the fact remains that most TFG just want to pee on people from a great height.

My FLGS is pretty nice, although small and limited in gaming tables as you can't very well walk around when a tournament is going on. Worst yet is when they have any CCG tournaments, forget about browsing their products. Oddly enough the comic store I go to also sells GW products and is very large but limited in tabletop terrain. If they combined stores, there is no doubt we would have the ultimate game store. Both are very quick to order anything you need and will get it in within a week, can't ask for better service. The discounts are great at both stores by the main FLGS gives you the best deal on ordering anything.

Funny thing is an older store (now closed down) Pioneer/Camelot Games, started out fairly honest but ended up nothing but a scam. They would not offer any refunds on dried up paints or broken items. Sone of the folks who played D&D minis who would order a case at a time found out that the owner was opening the cases and cherry picking the rare miniatures then sealing the boxes again. During any of their WFB or Mordheim tournaments both husband and wife owners would play and also make rulings on things whenever it would be benificial for themselves, needless to say most folks stopped playing there.

Anyway, I guess I'm luck to have at least two stores to chose from, especially in this economy.

My FLGS is nice and big, you've got the store itself and then you've got the game room in the back. We can also get memberships there to get discounts on their merchandise (which includes 40k and WFB stuff).

As an added bonus, the owner is a nice guy to talk to. My friend also works there, so I usually talk to him when I'm not playing 40k. The owner has a nice dog which he usually keeps in the store, he's usually quiet but he's pretty silly sometimes.

My FLGS is wonderful. Not the biggest store around, but it's decent-sized. It's upstairs from a bookstore and is the second half of a 'popular culture company' store, which basically means they sell comics, anime, sci-fi DVDs, and general nerdy gak.

The main room of the GW side is always warm/cool depending on the weather. That wonderful air conditioning also keeps the smell of the unwashed fat guys away.
The main room is also where people play D&D and the display cases are up there.

The Battle Bunker (gaming area) is fairly compact, with six tables for miniature games or TCGs. The store has a fair bit of its own terrain for public use, and runs demo games of Skull Pass/Black Reach on request. There are also painting/modelling/terrain classes in the holidays.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I can't say anything about my LGS is bad. We have a number of them in Minneapolis/St. Paul area that are top-notch excellent. You will not find nicer, more informed gamers or store anywhere (and LOTS of gaming room...)

My current shop is a nice guy to me... Never had any real problem with him, outside of being an hour drive away from me...
But years ago another game store opened closer so I started to use them more regularly, The guy would hardly stock anything...
and if you ordered something he would get it in and put it on the shelf... I understand making a mistake but it happened allot with other people also and I know that no one was interested in Harnmaster in my area but yet the guy still put the module on the shelf that I ordered. After a short while he shut down and I returned to the long trip to the game store...now when newer stores open...I keep with him just because I know he is not going to close up any time soon.

I'm very happy with my LGS, the owner is awesome and hilarious and loves getting in heated debates about absolutely ridiculous things (He just talked to my friends and me about how awesome Pariahs are ).

I'm just happy that I don't walk in and get harassed by the staff and get the infamous "GW Sales Pitch/Constant reminder about how awesome (and new) ___________ is."

I think I can say the only complaint I have with my SFLGS (S=Super....except the second one, which stands for Store..), is that there is no drinking faucet. Seriously, Great Escape Games is the best thing in the freakin' world. THe owner is renting a spot that used to be a 24 hour fitness, so there's been 300+ people inside and still there's space left over, tables being another issue entirely, but those are always available barring an enormous crowd like that.

((Shameless plug warning))

If you live anywhere near Sacramento, check this place out sometime.

I have nothing to complain about my LGS. Orders come in without delays and if there is a delay, the owner will keep you updated. Well stocked. Store is clean. Bathroom is clean! (nothing like going to another store and their toilet looks like a Nurgle Lord's throne)

You can tell the recession is rather tough on the owner. He said that he was about ready to take the coin jar out on the sidewalk and dance around it hoping people would toss some money in. Don't recall if he did or if it was successful.

I think I'm going to start a charity for the terminally stupid. You can be our spokes person. -- H.B.M.C.

Love the stores I frequent."Underworld Games"(Ipswich)(Great all round) and Brisbane City CBD GW store(Great Staff)

The "TFG's" that frequent them are well known, so easy to avoid.

The point about parent's "dumping" the kids @ the store, and proxying Nerds for babysitters, for extended periods of time...

Totally agree. It kinda sucks having to be a Babysitter when all you want to do is game/paint is relative 'peace'. /end rant

Well the manager left, so now we got a new guy. Unfortuantely, he likes making up completely random rules in the middle of a game. For example, I drove a rhino up a ramp to a build to tank shock. Apparently, this meant he could try and Death or Glory, only the guy would be sticking the bomb underneath the rhino, and so if he succeeded then it would make the rhino get blown of the edge of this building before it died. Yay. There goes my sternguard...

Wait... WHAT?

So the manager is a huge cheater? Call this fool out... that is just ridiculous. So, if you can see the bottom of a vehicle you get like super hits or something??? What utter nonsense, just because he doesn't understand how tank shock works doesn't mean he gets to make up rules in his favor.

Amen.

The Source is a quality fourty-kay venue. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly... I don't visit there as much anymore (mainly getting individual, used minis to finish up my army) but it's still a fun place to be.

Had a bit of a problem, years ago, after a friend of mine was fired from a lgs. I went in to order my next army (with over $750 in hand) and had the misfortune of running into the owner. After he ranted and raved about my friend (who had been fired wrongly and was now collecting unemployment), he informed me that if I was a friend of so-n-so, then I could take my business elsewhere! So I went home, called the Warstore and saved 20%. I still showed up for RTT's, but never spent another dime there.

O.o

the thing that scares me the most, i went to tasmania for a 1 week holiday from NSW and suffice to say, i went to hobart and checked out your GW store, there was a chick @ the cash register (upstairs) and FOW, which beats my GWS because:

a) it sells FoW
b) it sells FoW

i didnt get to see the battle area though but it looked cramped as like 6 big o' old blocks has all these books out with these wierd looking dice talking about bikini's... apart from the stange card games going on, it had FOW!!!... i should of checked it out more but it was a quick 2minute look... but looked nice and friendly

My two FLGS is my old home town suck pretty bad for basically non-gaming related reasons:

Store 1's owner decided one day around election time last year to impress on me his rather bigoted social opinions, which after a half hour involved him calling me a slur (specifics kept off because this isn't a political message board, and the latter isn't a word that should be said in polite company) Needless to say, there's zero chance of me shopping at that place again. Which is a shame because otherwise the shop was exemplary to buy from, (but not play at) but there's no way I can give a dollar to feed someone like that.

Store 2 is a Hobbytown USA, so the shop is already 75% model trains and such. So you're already second-fiddle, and their horrible selection of blisters (and thin selection otherwise) shows this to be true. What worse, for a long time the owner had a wild hair about stuff (I think I heard it was a religious conviction) and decided to not allow order any of the nudes GW did (Harpies, Daemonettes, DE sorceress) This was moderately annoying to say the least, and was rather annoying to deal with.

Luckily, I'm a member of an independant hobby club who rents space out on our own, so we don't have to deal with hobby stores much, except to actually buy product.

Man do I hear you on that one. I used to work for the evil empire ( the south Arlington branch) It really depends on witch store you go to, so far I have no complaints about the Arlington branches but Hurst is kinda a stinker. For what it is worth they have gotten a lot better in the recent years.
