The Claw

The Emperor is dead. His final breath echoing throughout the Warp. The Dark Gods laugh, the Eldar Gods shudder as they realize the implications of His death. In the first few minutes, thousands of astropaths and bound psykers die as their minds are overloaded by the psychic backlash from the Emperor's death. Warp travel becomes impossibly dangerous, as the Astronomicon no longer guides the Navigators.
In the first three decades:
-Entire sectors of Imperial space lose contact with one another, literally thousands of petty empires spring up.
-With no one to check it's advance, the Eye of Terror swells to immense size, consuming all nearby stars and their planets. The most massive Black Crusade ever seen pours forth from the Warp, and lays siege to the outlying Imperial worlds.
-The Inquisition takes direct control of the Imperium, doing their best to maintain the illusion that the Emperor still lives to prevent total social collapse.
-On the volcanic world of Prometheus, Commissar General Steve feels a pang of loss as the Emperor dies. He informs Lord Militant Kugelshrieber of the situation, who cordons off a huge section of space he names the Prometheus Segmentum, now independent from the rest of the Imperium.
-A nearby battalion of Black Templars receive their last orders from the Inquisition, sent by the dying light of the Astronomicon, the Prometheans have turned traitor, exterminate them. The Promethean Crusades begin.
-After burning hundreds of worlds, the Black Crusade suddenly flees back into the Eye of Terror, to combat a new Chaos God, Malal, Lord of Malice.
-The Void Dragon is freed from the Nochtis Labyrinth on Mars, spreading untold destruction, also, a Necron fleet appears in the Segmentum Solar, making it's way towards Mars... The Adeptus Mechanicus tries their best to halt the advance of the C'tan god. Their success is doubtful.
-The Inquisition executes all the members of the Adeptus Custodes, so that the truth of the Emperor's death cannot be revealed. A handful of Custodes manage to escape the pogrom, and flee to the fringes of the Segmentum Solar.
-A Warp Storm of unparalleled strength tears across the face of Ultramar.
-The Black Templars take the world of Pythagrea, but it is a pyrrhic victory. Hundreds of battle brothers gave their lives trying to breach the defenses of the Promethean fortress world. Forcing the tattered remains of the battalion to request help from a nearby chapter. But given that the Astronomicon is no more, no one knows how long it will take for someone to receive the message.
-Hive Fleet Leviathan destroys the Biel-Tan craftworld, the survivors join the Mael-Dannan.
-The Dark Angels, learning the truth of the Emperor's death, breakaway from the Imperium taking their descendent chapters with them. They begin fortifying a number of worlds, in preparation for the Inquisition's inevitable response.
The next fifty years:
-The Warp Storm on Ultramar ceases. The planet appears to have been emptied, now a barren world, bereft of even atmosphere. Of the Ultramarines, there is no sign.
-The first conflicts between the Dark Angels and the Imperium begin. After intense fighting on Keluba, a mysterious warrior breaks the lines of Imperial troops. The warrior reveals himself to be Luther.
-A massive fleet of Imperial ships are seen traveling to the Prometheus Segmentum. They bear the mark of the Ultramarines.
-The Black Templars are relived to see the ships of the Ultramarines touch down upon Pythagrea. Thinking that the Ultramarines had come to reinforce them, they welcomed their brothers warmly, and are shocked to see the immense form of Roboute Guilliman step from the holds of the ship. Then, in an act that would scar the history of the Imperium with it's brutality, Guilliman ordered his troops to fire upon the shocked Black Templars. Chanting dreadful songs, the Ultramarines butchered their brothers with unholy glee. Not a single Black Templar survived the assault. Praising the Warp for such an easy victory, Roboute Guilliman claims the world for his lord and master, Malal.
-Mars is lost to the Void Dragon, and Mechanicus survivors flee to Dark Angel space.
-More and more space marine chapters and imperial guard regiments break away from the Imperium as the Inquisition begins to lose it's hold on the Imperium.
-From the Eye of Terror comes Leman Russ and a battalion of Space Wolves, but these were not the brave sons of Fenris. Now they were screaming savages who cried out for blood. Now serving Khorne, Russ makes his way to the Prometheus Segmentum to slay his brother primarch, Roboute Guilliman, servant of the upstart god Malal.
-The Prometheans rally to drive both the dark Space Wolves and the Ultramarines from Pythagrea. Commissar General Steve leads the assault, as well as Lord Militant Kugelshrieber, in the god-tank Der Gesichtsschlag des Kaisers.
-The Legion of the Damned is sighted on Yelentus, aiding the rebellious forces of the space marines against the Inquisition.
-The rogue space marines name the area of space at the edge of the Segmentum Solar the Segmentum Astartes, and form their own government.
-The Necron fleet encounters the Hive Fleet Leviathan on it's way to Mars, the two forces slow one another's advance long enough for entire worlds to be evacuated before they were engulfed by either force.
-The death screams of Nurgle shake both the Warp and our dimension, shredding the fabric of reality as his Garden unravels and rancid chunks of it hurtle through space and time. Having slain Nurgle, Malal sets his sights on the domain of Tzeentch. In the confusion, Isha manages to escape the Warp, enters the webway, and disappears. Without their foul patron to sustain them, the Death Guard begin to feel the full affects of their "gifts", as their legion dies. Mortarion himself succumbs to disease, and finally dies.
-Just as the Prometheans were about to meet their end at the hands of the daemonic primarch Russ, strange ships arrived, bearing even stranger passengers. Animated suites of power armor led by a red skinned giant. The Thousand Sons fought mechanically against their old foe, causing enough damage to the Space Wolves to allow Commissar General Steve to kill Russ with his own axe. The Ultramarines vanish into a Warp portal, never to be seen in the Prometheus Segmentum for another century. Magnus then leaves as quickly as he came, seemingly following the Ultramarines. No explanation was given for the Thousand Sons sudden appearance. Why they did not attack the Prometheans remains a mystery. Modern scholars have suggested that Kugelshrieber was a in fact a Chaos worshipper, and somehow called down the traitor legion upon the Space Wolves. This is, of course, ridiculous.
-Cypher reaches the Segmentum Astartes, bringing with him the primarch Lion El'johnson. The Lion and Luther are reunited, and both reconcile their past conflicts, and unite in the defense of the Segmentum Astartes.
-The Night Lords are seen fighting the Necron fleet in the Segmentum Solar.
-Malal assaults the Maze of Tzeentch, leading the attack alongside his god is Roboute Guilliman.
The next thirty years:
-The Tau Empire comes under attack by Enslavers, bloated creatures with incredible psychic ability.
-The Black Templar, in attempt to restore their numbers after the Pythagrea Massacre, turn to experimentation upon their gene-seed. The next generation of Black Templars are prone to mutation, and for the first time in Imperial history, a Astartes Legion gene-seed bears the Mark of Tzeentch. Those afflicted by the Mark, mutate horribly, their forms twisting to the whim of their unholy "benefactor". Tzeentch hoped to recruit more soldiers for his war with Malal, which had taken a turn for the worse. The Black Templars, seeing the horror they had wrought, tried to execute the gibbering man-creatures they had inadvertently created, but the mutant space marines stole a ship, and jumped into the Warp, leaving only two-hundred or so Black Templar left in the entire Chapter. They rename themselves the Mourners, who pledge to hunt down the monstrosities they created. The twisted marines rename themselves the Remade, and pledge themselves to Tzeentch.
-The renegade space marines of the Soul Drinkers chapter fight to the last against the scattered remnants of Russ' corrupt Space Wolves. Their chapter is killed to the last man, as first captain Lef is transformed into a daemon prince of Khorne.
-The Eldar, sensing that Rhana Dhadra is near prepare for the final battle with She Who Thirsts.
-The Inquisition is beaten back to the innermost reaches of the Segmentum Solar. Their fleet was ambushed by Necrons, and more than half of their ships are destroyed.
-Psykers of very race and faction begin to have terrifying visions of "something" emerging from the Warp, something that hungers for the souls of all races.
-Lord Militant Kugelshrieber is killed in battle against Hive Fleet Leviathan as it tries to cross the Prometheus Segmentum. While his god-tank survives, Kugelshrieber is killed by a Hierophant as it threatened to overwhelm Stygia's defenses. Driving his beloved tank into the massive Tyranid beast, he crushed it under it's immense weight, killing the beast and ending the invasion. The title of Lord Militant are passed to Commissar General Steve, who vows to exterminate the Tyranid race as a whole.
-On Baal Secundus, Mephiston splits from Chapter Master Dante. Mephiston truly believes the Emperor is indeed dead, but Dante holds to the mad belief that he is still alive, despite evidence to the contrary. Upon hearing of Mephiston's beliefs, Dante attacks the librarian in a fit of denial inspired madness, unwilling to harm his friend, Mephiston escapes with a full complement of Blood Angels, and the full force of several break-away chapters. Mephiston leaves to join the Segmentum Astartes, hoping against hope for a way to help his friend see the truth.
-In the Warp, Malal defeats the Lord of Change and scatters his followers across space and time. Tzeentch himself escapes, swearing vengeance, and spitting curses. In the aftermath of the battle, Roboute Guilliman is made a daemon prince of Malal.
-In desperation, Slaanesh escapes through a Warp portal, and into reality, taking the full force of his legions with him. During the transition, Fulgrim begins to slowly shake off the daemon possessing his mind and body.
-The Dark Eldar organize the full force of all the Kabals and increase the number of souls they deliver to Slaanesh, as the dark god was weakened by his transition to our dimension. Literally thousands of worlds are raided each day, feeding the Prince of Pleasure life-energy enough to warp several wolds near the Eye of Terror into daemon worlds.
-Out of the Warp come the Ultramarines, bent on killing Slaanesh in his weakened state, Roboute Guilliman himself leads the attack. Years pass as the forces of Chaos fight one another. Finally, assaulting Slaanesh's Palace, Guilliman strikes a fatal wound to the god, forcing Slaanesh to absorb the souls of the entire Dark Eldar race, or be slain by the lackey of Malal. However, it is not enough, and Slaanesh begins to starve for want of souls. Desperately turning his attention to other races, Slaanesh attempts to corrupt every being his servants encounter. Seeing no other alternative to destruction, Slaanesh forces himself into dormancy, to slow his starvation for millennia. In that instant, Fulgrim's mind is freed, and in disgust, slays Eidolon and his captains before vanishing for parts unknown.
-In the Prometheus Segmentum, Hive Fleet Leviathan is devastated by Promethean troops on the world of Solus, Leviathan is forced to retreat, but Lard Militant Steve fires himself from the planet's defense cannon, and into the fleet's synapse creature, causing untold havoc as the tyranids run wild, killing each other and anything else in sight.
-Komus, the Tyrant Star shows itself in the Calixis Sector. Madness and mutation come in it's wake.
-The Inquisition prepares for a possible counter attack from the Segmentum Astartes.
-Malal consolidates his forces , preparing to strike at Terra, and topple the Imperium.
-The Eldar are seen moving towards the Segmentum Solar, where their Farseers predict Rhana Dhadra will take place.
-The Necron fleet reaches Mars, reuniting with the Void Dragon. Mars, in the meantime, has been turned into a tombworld.
-Khorne moves from the Eye of Terror with all of his legions, intent on slaying Guilliman and his god, Malal.
-The Inquisition is torn apart in civil war as the Phaeonite faction executes a coup against the Lord Inquisitor.
-Khorne rips the heart out of the Tau Empire, Angron himself butchers the Ethereal Council. Thousands of Tau and their subject races are scattered the galaxy.
-Magnus and the Thousand Sons reunite with Ahriman, the reasons why Magnus has forgiven Ahriman is unknown.
-Perturubo and the Iron Warriors fight a desperate battle against Malal's growing strength.
-Disillusioned by the powers of Chaos, Abbadon joins the Legions of Malal.
-Eldrad Ulthraun returns, tearing his spirit free of the Blackstone Fortress that held it. Eldrad returns to the Eldar with a prophecy that changes their race forever.
-Remnants of the Tau Empire enter into an alliance with the Prometheus Segmentum, trading technology with one another.
-The Inquisition puts down the Phaeonite coup and order is restored.
-On the world of Schictka, the Inquisitorial forces led by the Imperial Fists fight a desperate battle against the Ultramarines. During the battle, Vladmir Pugh receives a vision of a great two headed raven. The raven claims to be the Emperor, telling Pugh the key to victory is to pray to the him for support. Pugh does as instructed, and nine days later, the full force of the Remade arrive on Schictka, driving the Ultramarines back into the Warp. Pugh receives another vision, in which the raven reveals itself to be Tzeentch, and tells the Chapter Master the truth of the Emperor's death. Pugh denies the Lord of Change, even attacking him. Tzeentch laughs harshly and vanishes. Soon, Imperial Fists are manifesting unstable mutations and psychic powers. Cults of Tzeentch spring up in the Chapter, and the Great Conspirator claims the once proud legion as his own. Pugh is later killed by a squad of traitorous Imperial Fists.
-A chunk of Nurgle's Garden is discovered the Iron Hands Chapter. The small spark of Nurgle's consciousness within the fleshy gobbet infects Chapter Master Kardan Stronos, transforming the once proud Iron Hand into an avatar of death and decay. With a shuddering breath that ends in an exhalation in a cloud of flies, Nurgle is reborn. The Iron Hands are rapidly infected with Nurgle's Plague, making them dependent on their foul patron for survival.
-Terra comes under attack from the Void Dragon. The Inquisition scrambles troops and ships in a desperate gamble to destroy the Necron fleet. As the Necrons threaten to overwhelm the defenders, a fleet of nightmarish ships arrives and drives the Necrons off. The interlopers reveal themselves to be the White Scars, whose ships had been trapped in the Warp since the end of the Horus Heresy. Jaghatai Khan himself is with the rest of his legion, however, their time in the Warp had clearly altered them. Their armor had been repainted, their breastplates bisected by both a field of black, and a field of white. As the ships of the White Scars touched down on Terra, Jaghatai Khan steps onto the hallowed soil with a company of handpicked troops. Khan was welcomed into the chamber that held the High Lords, Khan then revealed his new allegiance to Malal, and attacked the High Lords. Most were slaughtered by the rogue primarch, but a few managed to escape, sealing themselves within the Emperor's throne room. Once again, Terra finds itself under siege. The Deathwatch, Sisters of Battle, and the Grey Knights stand as a vanguard against the traitorous White Scars, the Inquisition sends a desperate message to the Segmentum Astartes, pleading for aid. The Ultramarines are seen in route to Terra, with the Black Legion and various other chapters in service to Malal not far behind.
-The Eldar conduct raids against the forces of Malal, delaying their arrival to Terra for months.
-Khorne and his legions attack Promethean settlements.
-The forces loyal to the four original Chaos Gods unite and make for Terra, in hopes of crushing the upstart Lord of Strife.
-The Ultramarines are attacked by Imperial Fists as they travel through the Warp.
-The traitor legions loyal to Nurgle and Tzeentch travel through the Warp to reach Terra, while the servants of Khorne attempt to carve a path through the Segmentum Astartes.
-The Segmentum Astartes responds to the news of the Siege of Terra by sending the full force of their legions to aid the Inquisition.
-Ancient webway gates in the Segmentum Solar flare to life as the Craftworlds of the Eldar prepare for the final battle against Chaos.
-A joint force of Tau and Prometheans reinforce the Segmentum Astartes' defenses. The Hells' Liberators guard regiment also joins in the fight with the legions of Khorne.
-Due to a navigation error, ships from both the Iron Hands and the Oracles of Change collide in route to Terra, thousands of traitors are killed. Tzeentch is unsettled by what can only be the meddling of Malal upon the Warp.
-Mephiston's Blood Angels battle against the diseased Iron Hands in orbit over Caspian III to prevent the followers of Nurgle from unleashing their plagues against the vital agri-world.
-The Hrud make harrying attacks against far flung Imperial worlds.
-The first traitor ships enter the Sol System. The Imperial Fists and the Cleaved defeat the Inquisitorial ships surrounding Luna, and commence their attack against the Sisters of Silence. For weeks, the traitors battle the Sisterhood, until a force of Blood Angels led by Dante, since regaining his senses, force the traitors to retreat and regroup for a costly battle.
-The traitor ships in service to both Malal and the other Chaos Gods make planetfall on Terra. The renegade Astartes battle with one another in their rush for the Imperial Palace. The forces of the Ultramarines, led by the Daemon Prince Guilliman, and those of the Black Legion arrive to reinforce the White Scars inside the Imperial Palace.
-The forces of the Segmentum Astartes arrive with the full force of the allied Prometheans and Tau.
-The forces of Khorne arrive at Terra, the World Eaters join up with the Iron Hands to assault the Malal position at the Imperial Palace. Jaghatai Khan and Roboute Guilliman break the attacking forces, Khan himself decapitating Kharn the Betrayer and mounting his head on his standard. Angron mortally wounds Marneus Calgar, and the Chapter Master is interred into a Dreadnought.
-Luna is lost to Chaos forces, Commander Dante is killed by a berserk Chaos Dreadnought in the retreat.
-The forces of Malal finally break their away into the Emperor's Throneroom, slaughtering the last of the defenders and butchering the last few High Lords. The Dark Angels arrive shortly afterwords, storming their way into the Throneroom, to witness an act that would scar the Imperium forever. Roboute Guilliman lashed the mouldering bones of the Emperor of Mankind to his twisted armour, a blasphemy that enraged the First Legion. Luther and the Lion leap to engage the two rogue primarchs, the demigods whirling in vicious combat. In the end, the Lion slays Khan, sending the primarch of the White Scars' head spinning across the room. Luther is in turn slain by Guilliman. The Dark Angels and their descendent chapters retake the throneroom, but Guilliman and the Ultramarines escape through a Warp portal.
-The Thousand Sons arrive on Terra through a Warp portal, Magnus the Red and Ahriman, since reunited, spearhead an attack against the Imperial Fists. Tzeentch is infuriated by this turn of events, not having foreseen that the Thousand Sons have forsaken him.
-The Eldar break the lines of the World Bearers, forcing them to retreat back to their ships.
-The Last Custodes is seen leading the Segmentum Astartes forces.
-Alpharius and Omegon teleport aboard Guilliman's battle barge, hoping to slay Malal's Warmaster. The Alpha Legion, since turning it's back on Chaos had sought to preserve Humanity's future, and to do so, they would have to end the threat of Malal, once and for all. The twin primarchs and their forces were scattered far throughout the ship, and fought a desperate battle to regroup and converge upon the bridge. Omegeon's forces encounter Cato Sicarius, since warped into a monstrous Chaos Spawn. Omegon slays the former Captain of the Second Company before making his way to the bridge. There, he sees his brother and Guilliman already locked in brutal combat. As Omegon leaps to his twin's defense, the daemon-primarch buries his hell-forged blade deep in Alpharius' chest, killing him. Enraged, Omegon throws himself at Guilliman, yet again, Guilliman kills his opponent, but not before Omegon removes on of his arms. Calling for all forces loyal to Malal to find shelter, Guilliman orders the bombardment of Terra. Thousands on all sides are killed by the bombing, and the Imperial Fists suffer appalling losses that force them to retreat into the Warp. Angron is crushed by falling rubble outside the Imperial Palace as he was leading a force of over fifty-thousand Khorne berserkers in an assault to take it from the Dark Angels. The Palace itself is razed, all those inside almost guaranteed dead.
-The Phoenix Lord Fuegan calls the rest of the Phoenix Lords together for the final battle against Chaos.
-The Lion climbs out of the wreckage of the Imperial Palace, the only one inside to have survived the bombardment. Bleeding from countless wounds, the Lion walks away from the countless corpses of Dark Angels that had followed him into battle. As he limps away from the carnage, a massive shape lifts itself from the rubble, and Angron, primarch of the World Eaters steps forth. The few remaining Dark Angels that had been fortunate enough to fall behind find the body of the Lion lying atop the massive horned corpse of Angron, the Lionsword protruding from the Khornate primarch's left eye-socket. Reverently, the Dark Angels carry the body of the Lion back to their ships, where he is carried off Terra to the Segmentum Astartes, as the few remaining Dark Angel ships sacrifice themselves to cover the ship bearing their primarch's body.
-Khorne himself appears on Terra after the death of Angron, infuriated at the death of his champion. Eagerly, Malal appears as well, and engages the Red Lord in combat. Terra shakes as the two Dark Gods fight, their blood poisoning the earth. The traitor legions take pause in their endless battle and watch the two gods duel. Khorne is broken and shattered by the night of Malal, and the upstart god casts his godly parts into the Warp. Despite this, Khorne still lives, but is unable to influence real space until his parts are reunited. The forces of Khorne are routed from Terra.
-Nurgle, clad in the flesh of Kardan Stronos, orders his forces to retreat after witnessing Khorne's defeat at the hands of Malal.
-The Last Custodes leads the forces of the Segmentum Astartes against the full might of the Black Legion. The Last Custodes engages Abbadon in single combat, and slays the First Captain of the Sons of Horus.
-The Phoenix Lords arrive on Terra, and lead the Eldar on the offensive. At the head of the Phoenix Lords is Kayla Mensha Khaine, the Eldar God of War, Isha is there as well, instantly healing the wounds of any Eldar injured in combat.
-The Prometheans and Tau are forced to retreat after Lord Militant Steve disappears, presumably sucked into the same Warp portal that carried away the Imperial Fists.
-Magnus confronts Malal. and using all of his awesome psychic power as well as his magic, the primarch of the Thousand Sons entraps the Lord of Spite within his own body, rendering Malal impotent. As Malal threatens to overwhelm Magnus' mind, he instructs Ahriman to attach him to the Golden Throne. His student leads the Thousand Sons to the rubble of the Imperial Palace, and with the help of his sorcerers, unearth the remnants of the Emperor's Throneroom. Casting powerful spells, the Thousand Sons place Magnus into a magical sleep as they place the massive primarch atop his father's throne. Malal is furious, but due to the spells and the protective barriers of the raised Throneroom, is unable to escape the confines of Magnus' flesh. As the final wire is placed upon the primarch's body, a psychic shock-wave is sent throughout the galaxy, and psykers of every race feel a feeling of hope. Tzeentch screams in rage and hurls curses at Magnus, but he is far beyond hearing them. Using the last bit of their magic and life force, Ahriman and the sorcerers of the Thousand Sons reconstruct the Imperial Palace to it's former glory, even as the effort burns out their souls. At feeling their lord defeated, the forces of Malal retreat from Terra, as do the forces of the other Chaos Gods. The Eldar follow the fleeing traitors into the Warp, to fight the Rhana Dhadra in the Immaterium.
-Several chapters from the Segmentum Astartes stay behind on Terra while the rest of their forces return to their fortress-worlds. The remaining chapters remain to guard Magnus, protecting the slumbering primarch of the Thousand Sons against Guilliman and his ilk if they ever return and attempt to free their god. The Last Custodes also elects to remain and becomes the leader of the chapters on Terra, he renames them the Red Wardens, forever pledged to defend Terra from the Warp.
-The few Dark Angels and their descendent chapters travel to the former location of Caliban, where they spend the next century constructing a space station exclusively for interring the Lion among the other heros of the Dark Angels that perished during the Second Battle of Terra. Caliban Station also includes a museum dedicated to telling the story of the fight against Chaos after the Emperor's death.
-The Emperor's Children are spotted near Caliban Station, and the Dark Angels prepare to engage. But, the former legion of Slaanesh have been freed from their hedonistic pursuits after the Prince of Pleasure was forced into slumber, and are returning to pay their respects to the fallen primarch. Fulgrim, now returned to his former glory, entered Caliban Station and purportedly wept at the sight of the Lion's preserved body. Later, the primarch of the Emperor's Children committed suicide as penance for his crimes against his father and his brothers. Fulgrim's body was then interred next to the Lion's at Caliban Station.
-The Segmentum Astartes becomes the dominant power in the Segmentum Solar, leading the shattered people of the Imperium into a new age.
-The Dark Angels secede fully from the Segmentum Astartes, moving all of their forces to defend Caliban Station.
-The Prometheus Segmentum is rechristened the Promethean Convent, and both Human and Tau prosper under the rule of a joint governing council.
-On Tombworlds throughout the galaxy, the necrons rise to full wakefulness.

Wow. Evil Ultramarines. That seems very grim, yet fitting. The scheme is good, and the Malal reference is a great kicker!

True, but wanted to give them the blue/gold of their master Tzeentch, although it would make sense to keep the original scheme as a sort of mockery.

The Claw

The Ultramarines (Post-Heresy)
Origins
It started with the Warp Storm. Some time after the Emperor's death, a massive Warp Storm descended on Ultramar. For decades, leaving the planet was impossible, and the number of mutants and psykers born tripled. Daemons galavanted across the surface of Ultramar, killing and corrupting at will. The Ultramarines fought bravely to stem the tide of darkness, but it seemed that their efforts were futile. It seemed that it would be the end for the brave sons of Ultramar, but in their hour of need, Roboute Guilliman, his wound healed, charged the daemon lines, and bought another day for the Ultramarines. Guilliman revealed that a voice had come to him in his unconscious state, telling him the truth of the Imperium and of the Warp. The Emperor was a liar and just as corrupt as the aliens and heretics he claimed to fight against. The Ultramarines were shocked, they could not believe that the once loyal son of the Emperor had spouted such treasonous words. Guilliman went on to say that he had found a new god, Malal, Lord of Spite. What happened next is unknown, but Ultramar was reduced to a barren shell, devoid of even atmosphere.
The Promethean Crusades
When the Ultramarines received the distress signal from the Black Templars on Pythagrea, the now fallen sons of Ultramar answered. Landing on the Inquisition controlled world, the Black Templars embraced their brothers, calling them saviors sent by the God-Emperor himself. When Roboute Guilliman made his appearance, the Black Templars sang hymns of joy to see the primarch once again. Then showing his true colors, Guilliman ordered his troops to fire upon their former battle-brothers. The Pythagrean Massacre had begun. Not a single Black Templar survived the pogrom. Having secured his victory, Guilliman claimed Pythagrea in the name of Malal. When the Leman Russ and his blood crazed Space Wolves touched down on Pythagrea, intent on slaying Guilliman, the primarch of the Ultramarines had already received a vision from Malal, and was already prepared for Russ. This would cost Russ hundreds of Astartes loyal to him and drove him into a fury, stalking across the battlefield to meet Guilliman in combat. Their personal battle was a stalemate, and both sides were forced to withdraw their forces. When the Prometheans arrived, it simply complicated matters. with Commissar General Steve at their head, the Promethean 653rd were unstoppable. The Thousand Sons' arrival signaled the end of Space Wolf involvement in the Promethean Crusades. When Steve slew Russ with his own axe, the Ultramarines were able to advance and kill or scatter Russ' berserk horde. Shortly afterwards, the Ultramarines vanished into the Warp. The Ultramarines would not be seen in the Prometheus Segmentum for centuries afterward.
The War in the Immaterium
The Ultramarines were instrumental in the Fall of Tzeentch doing battle with the newly formed Remade chapter of Chaos marines. After driving off the Lord of Change, Guilliman was elevated to a daemon prince of Malal. Guilliman also delivered the blow that would prove fatal to the Prince of Pleasure on a daemon world of Slaanesh's own making.
Gene-Seed
The Ultramarine Gene-Seed is tainted by the Warp. Every new Ultramarine tends to megalomania and cruelty. They remember everyone who has ever wronged them, and they always repay their insults seven-fold. Mutation is rare in the Ultramarines, making them the most stable Chaos Legion to date, as opposed to the Remade, whose forms are constantly in a flux.
Battle Cry
"Pro Guilliman quod Spite Deus!"
When fighting the Inquisition: "Vestri deus est mortuus! Sit a somes super a per of lies , no an effigies per capitale!"

If I could even remotely draw I'd gladly post some art, however, a bunch of stick figures are not going to do you any good. Really loving the updates, keep it up!

Er, just a notice: Ultramar isn't a planet.

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Ultramar

I like speculation about the future of 40K (Since the story will never progress), so this piqued my interest. I like a lot of the elements, but bringing back Malal is a bit continuity pornish. Hope you can do it justice. Also... Governor Steve? That name's just asking to be made fun of.

The whole Steve buisness is a massive in-joke.

I don't think the black templar would be so easily reduced to a mere 200 initiates; remember the BT chapter is nearly six thousand strong.

Also why do the mourners bear the imperial fist heraldry?

the most massive Black Crusade ever seen pours forth from the Warp, and lays siege to the outlying Imperial worlds.

Excellent!

-A nearby battalion of Black Templars receive their last orders from the Inquisition, sent by the dying light of the Astronomicon, the Prometheans have turned traitor, exterminate them. The Promethean Crusades begin.

BT are second founding, unless we are looking at time contorting due to the effects of the warp.... iit is not excellent.

From the Eye of Terror comes Leman Russ and a battalion of Space Wolves, but these were not the brave sons of Fenris.

Too obvious a target for khorne.

The Black Templar, in attempt to restore their numbers after the Pythagrea Massacre, turn to experimentation upon their gene-seed. The next generation of Black Templars are prone to mutation, and for the first time in Imperial history, a Astartes Legion gene-seed bears the Mark of Tzeentch

Magnuses existing pact with the warp entities to preevnt 1k sons mutations doesn't count then?

-Khorne rips the heart out of the Tau Empire, Angron himself butchers the Ethereal Council. Thousands of Tau and their subject races are scattered the galaxy.

It' s not that big of a deal is it? dealing with the space pontifs and the associated clergy? Bit of a waste of Angrons talents (at least he is out there doing something in this universe.) BUt what of the previously mentioned Enslavers fighting the Tau, what does old Angron do with them or did they escape via a plot hole?

It's not too bad, but crikey! there's a lot of crap going on in this time-line. Almost makes me wish for the stability of normal grim-dark.
