Hi there,

After a long time without touching any mini, I finally decided myself to start converting and paintig and here is the result:

Banner:

Flammer:

Feedback, comment path of improvement are more than welcome since this is my very first conversion and that I'm gently sarting the hobby again.

Now I have to remember how to paint !

Now, that's a flamer! The flames are a little long for my taste, but that's excellent work.

Ignore him. That thing frickin rocks. There isn't one part that I would change.

game play wise, the flame might get in the way. If there was some way to make it detachable by pinning or magnets, it could be better. But I would suffer through it for a model that kicked that much ass.

Thx!

as i just do modeling and painting i do not really care about the "gaming" aspect of the mini and in fact I wanted the flames to be big

i'll update the thread when I decide my self to paint it , thats an other story...

Hey there, I have nearly finished painting it and I wanted to share the results...

I still have to finish the banner (that has been totally modified since) and I might go with an OSL work around the flame but not sure, i do not want to ruin every thing... any way there you go: (comments criticism more than welcome)

Wow, brilliant work... My gs skills are a tad more limited... As for the OSL, I wouldn't do it on this mini. You seem quite able to pull it off, but you have at least two light sources (the lava and th flames) coming from different angles. The best OSLs I've seen always had only one light source.

Very cool idea, very cool GS work, very cool paintjob, very cool base. 4 for 4 well done.
Cause you asked for C&C: i see you can do a bit of lighting effect, you should add it to the armour, that way it will tone down the head justa tad which stands out alone a bit.

For the osl part, i'm goint to do a test mini first, i really do not want to ruin this one

Thanks for all the positive feedback, I'm glad you guys like it! I'll put it on CMON when the banner is on and get shot down in flames, that will be a good reality check

Good paintjob there.

Some constructive criticism though:
The sculpting is to rough. It looks like you start cutting shapes in the green before it cures and thus there are no sharp angles, just bent shapes all over.
Also the green is way to thick, it looks like something scibor has cooked up with his printing machines. Yes its a matter of taste but the thickness kinda takes away some feeling of skill from the overal look.

Scales:
When you sculpt scales start with a thin base, thus when you press down the pattern you wont do it deep enough to deform and make "bulbs" out of the scales.
After the scaly pattern is pressed but before the green cures, use a flat object like a knife blade, fingernails etc, to press down on the scales themselves to flatter them out.
Also be more careful with the scale pattern and dont leave hacks in it as seen on the banner.

Flames/smoke:
Is more big scaled and not so tiny and elongated as you have made it. Think more of bigger individual mushroom shapes making up the flame and smoke ratehr then tiny knife scratches.

Painting:
Nice lava, maybe a bit to bright for my taste and for the realism of it but one thing that clearly stood out is the lack of contrast between the armour and the scale addons. They have the same colour and it looks blurry. One cant be sure where the original ends and the sculpt starts. It would look a lot better if you painted the scales in a signigicantly different hue from that of the armour plating itself.

On the positive side I love the darker, gothic feel you have managed to give the mini, I hate bright green dork marines like the GW studios salamanders or the older ultramarines with shiny blue and alarm red mixed up with lemon yellow *yuck*. There is nothing as mood killing on the tabletop (when you have a game of gritty dark future) then old-timer goblin army colour themes. That only works on eldar occasionally.

A good job overall though, dont take this as personal or such, I´m giving you constructive advice based on my own skills with greenstuff and brush. Take to you what you like, its a matter of taste anyway. Good luck

It's really my first sculpted mini (I only used green stuff to fill in gaps before), and the first I have painted in 4-5 years (and at that time my highest skill was dry brushing ). this is just the result of surfing tons of tutorials on the net and trying 'em with only one thing in mind: try and you might be able to do it !

I still remember my very first GS converted mini ages ago.
