Hello Dakka,

As you read from the title, I'm starting a Deathwatch Army, and I've decided to make a Blog to go with it. I hope to update it with regular (every few weekis regular, right?) updates, so you at home can see how I'm doing, and hopefully help me improve my work.

Anyway, here's my brief.
- To create an army of Black-Clad, Xenos-Killing Superhumans - aka - Deathwatch Marines.
- To make a unique army. You don't see a lot of Deathwatch around, so I guess theyr'e a good choice.
- To improve my skills in Painting, Modelling, Sculpting and the Hobby in general.
- To create each marine so you can identify his chapter WITHOUT looking at his shoulder pad. This is fairly important as a want each one to be unique and have their own story.

The army will be purely for display and friendly games. The list consists of 2000 points of Sternguard, Pods, a single devastator squad, Stormtroopers (Counts-as Scouts) and of course, Kantor, to make the Sternguard Scoring. I will most likely include a MotF in their too for fun.

Another important thing I wanted was for all the Marines to be named. I've got a big word document saved with the name, chapter and design notes for each marine.

And with that note, here is what will soon become Squad Argus, with Sergeant Argus, an IF, Brother Skaryd a SW, Brother Ramiel, a DA, Brother Phrixos ,an Iron Snake, and Brother Barakiel, a Lamentor.

Here is my first order. You can see:
1.) The Drop Pod for the Squad.
2.) The Devastator Squad.
3.) The DW Conversion Pack.
4.) Some Paints - SW Grey and Boltgun Metal.

Anyway, I may get a little bit of work done today, and maybe a little bit tommorow, but the official start will be monday.

Until then, any questions you ask, I will answer, and if you want to know anything about the project, just ask.

Grimm

Great idea, true you don't see a lot of full armies of DW but there are some truly fantastic single squads out there. Good idea about the individuality of the marines, its bad enough that we have generic marines in the first place, but an army of heroes has to be presented as just that. Not a collection of Ultra-clones but of individuals that have been kicking *£$ for decades.

Good luck with the project, consider me Sub'd

Yo Dakka, I'm back.

Here is today's installment of the Deathwatch Blog. I've finished assembling one model today, Brother Skaryd of the Spacewolves, and the start of Sergeant Argus, wearing his Mk III 'Iron' Armour.

First of all, Wolfboy...

If you look very carefully here, you can see that he's looking through the scope with his only good eye. He's got an eyepatch on the other.

Now we have Fisty posing...(I apologise for the pics. It's dark so it's the best we're getting for now.)

...And the the start of his armour. (I'm too poor for Forgeworld)

I'll be cleaning up the Greenstuff once it's cured tommorow, then detailing most likely.

Any comments would be cool,
Grimm.

Not a real update, but I do need help. I have been working, but the camera is being used so I can't take pics yet.

Anyway, I've finished the MkIII armour, apart from tiny details and the studs. This is where I am stuck. Does anyone have any particular teqhnique for making armour studs? I've tried the PVA Glue method, and sticking on little balls of Greenstuff, but they either don't work how I want them to, or look awful. I can't get hold of beads and I'm not particularly keen about ordering any.

If all else fails, I'll drill some holes where I want the studs to go, and put little balls of Greenstuff in them, but I was just wondering if Dakka had any good tips.

Expect updates soon on both Fisty and Snakey (Iron Snake).

Thanks all,
Grimm

Another question.

I'm at a complete standstill with the Imperial Fist. I want him to look like an Imperial fist, but being Deathwatch, can't have his distinctive Banana Marine yellow armour. What is distinct to the IFs? What would you see on a Marine and instantly say, 'That's an Imperial Fist'. I'm trying to do logos, but I can't find any small enough.

Also, a little while ago, someone posted a tutorial on how to logos in GS. I believe their example was a Raven Guard. Any help in finding it would be very much apriciated.

Thanks,
Grimm.

Generally for a DeathWatch Marine, their left shoulder would be a Chapter Pad. Not sure how that would work with your Color Scheme.

Not sure, but Chapterhouse might have Fist pads up for grabs.
