Yes Yes I know a topic like this already exists, but it is rather hard to find adequate necron help. My idea for an army has already been shot down so I will let you all decide and express your opinions. I would like to have a decent sized army that is all around versatile. I don't want any pieces that serve just one role and nothing else. It would also be nice to see a list of reasons why you choose said pieces.

Right now I only have the Starter kit, which came with 20 Warriors, 3 Destroyers, and 5 scarab swarms, and a necron Lord w/res orb. I plan to use the Nightbringer C'tan (if he is recommended over the Deceiver).

Please bare in mind I am a new player with only a brief idea of what I am doing and a not so big disposable income.

I would reccomend the Deciever. His abilities are much better than the Nightbringer.A good core of warriors would help say around 50.Immortals are a must as are more Destroyers.I have been playing Necrons since they were a Raiding army with only about 4 choices in it.5th Ed has been rough on them unfortunetly though.

So I have heard. But what about The heavy Destroyers and the Destroyer Lord?

Also, Arent flayed ones and scarab swarms bad to have sense they don't count towards the phase out rule?

Actually Dominar flayed ones are necrons.Scarabs,Pariahs, the Monolith.Tomb Spyders and the C'Tan do not count as Necrons.

Hmm...I thought they were considered souless and thus not Necrons. Then again I maybe confusing them with the Pariahs,

It happens alot but Flayed Ones do count as Necrons.Though during games I do not point this out to my opponents unless they ask.

First a necron lord with res orb is a must.put him on a destroyer body for not worrying about instant death weapons(other than pyscic weapon)and give him a warscythe.Use your monoliths to move your troops to objectives. Also do not keep your warriors in reserve as wil be suggested. It might be nice to deep stike with them, but with all the tank killing armies out there you might lose the warriors before they even hit the table.Bring scarabs as well at least 8-10 they bog down alot of stuff.

Alright..So you figure about

- 50 warroprs
- 1 Destroyer Lord w/ res orb. And the warsyth is just the +10 points to upgrade the SOF?
- 8-10 Scarabs
- Monoliths ( Only need one I am guessing?)
- Deciever

Might need (?)
- Flayed Ones
- Wriahts
- Immortals
- Tomb Spider
- Heavy Destroyer
- Pariahs

Not asking for a complete copy of your army jsut an idea of wether or not any of those things are useful.

I have 3 necron players at my LGS.

1 has the 3 monolith destroyer heavy build. He has a pretty good record, took 2nd place at the local 'ard boyz
1 has 1 lord with a res orb and a bunch of warriors. (this is the most boring to play against, i like him personally, but I wont play against him. probably boring to model too)
One has the deciever, a lord, a squad of destroyers, a monolith and a bunch of warriors. He loses a lot.

Lesson learned: Take a build and stick with it. Keep your necron count up, stay in cover.

My favorite build is the necron flying circus.
Lord with veil of darkness.
Squad of immortals
a monolith or 2.
Rest warriors.

Lord and immortals fly around and kill everything, while being almost impossible to catch in assault, warriors deep strike. If they destroy your monolith you're out all your DSers, so only keep 1-2 small squads in reserves for that purpose, rest should be big squads footslogging.

Not sure about the veil of darkness being a good pick. One bad deepstrike and away he goes to lala land.I have seen that list but it did not impress me.Way to many large blast weapons can catch them packed together and knock most of them down.

Dunno..Seems like a good army..Just to many what if's and bad rolls could really screw me over.

Which is why most Necron players stick to the ground game and do not go overboard on deepstriking units.

You just have to be smart about where you DS. On a super terrain-heavy board it might not be the best, but on a regular board you'll do great provided you don't roll a 12" scatter into terrain and destroy yourself. and a blast weapon aimed at your immortals isn't aimed at your warriors, which is a good thing.

True enough Rory. But losing the Immortals in one round is terrible. The Deciever is fun to play with, but if you plan to play in any tournemant I would reccomend a second necron lord on foot with res orb as back up.

I thought you couldnt use two Necron Lords and a C'tan?

For my 2k list I usually went with:

1 lord w/orb/veil
2 x 10 warriors
3 x 10 immortals
3 x 4 destroyers

42 t5 bodies and thats 96 str 5 or better ap4 shots at bs4 with a minimum effective range of 30". Your opponent can't really 'concentrate' on your warriors to phase you out.

It's real weakness is it's lack of mobility, anti-tank and the general necron vulnerability to cc specialists.

So it's fail vs any serious 5th ed list.

Hey thats why we roll dice.I can not say I have not had it happen to me either. But in most cases the Eldard CC squads destroy Necrons in CC

He took out one squad of ten warriors in one strike..So yeah I see how good they are in CC.

So we have agreed that I need a pretty large assortment of warriors, Some immortals, Destroyers, A monolith. Scarab Swarms, and either two necrons lords or one lord and a C'tan.

I play that type of army as well. It is boring to model, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. I'm 0-2 so far.

Don't be sad, when you first get into it you will have a bad losing streak, the trick is to love the modeling and painting enough that you stick with it and learn the ropes. Warrior swarm is not a bad build for necrons, Just be sure to take out enemy plasma guns/cannons and the enemy will have a hard time killing you.

XD I love it.. Yes I know that the lord, the warriors, the destoryer, Monoliths, scarab swarms, and a C'tan are needed. But what about the other units? Are any of them good and worth while or do they only really have ne specific use and thus are a waste of time, monye, and points?
