I just looked on the Battle Foam Website and the Trade-in Program is now active. So, who are the first takers?

If you're in the Chicago area, I'll give you the 20 dollars for a Mark II or even 30 dollars for a Motor Pool. Then you can use that money to buy the battlefoam bag.

Also guys, we accept bags that are damaged or ripped. As long as they are in some kind of working condition they can be traded in. I can't imagine anyone else out there offering money for old damaged or ripped foam and bags.

Anyway, just wanted to clear that up.

Thanks guy.

Daggermaw - Really, we are sending them into outer space. LOL

I can tell you what we are not doing with them. We are NOT reselling them or trading them in any way. Please do not call us to buy used bags. LOL

Lets just say that we may need a bigger warehouse if people take advantage of this policy.

Hope that helps.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

The reason they're accepting all manner of trade-ins should be pretty obvious, especially since it has been clear from the start that they are not being recycled...

But respectfully, I'm going to keep my mouth shut. Market politics are not one of my favourite subjects.

Sabol bags need to have ALL their foam to get full value?

Pass.

Anyone who wants to sell a Motor Pool, please contact me privately. I will gladly pay the 20.00 + shipping to Canada + something for your time. You can even keep your foam

Bunker: just so's I'm understandin here, that still leaves you shellin out the cash for the foam. Isn't that stuff 7-9 bucks a piece? That's going to be some cash to make that thing useful. What are you planning on putting into that motor pool?

Sooooooooo..., looking at the Battle Foam Trade In Credit section of the page linked above. You spend that much at the same time as you send in your stuff on a trade and you get that much additional credit? C'mon, you knew this was comin, someone figure out how to translate that from the English that's it's in to Idiot so's I can grasp it.

I think I see how it works. Basically you trade in say 2 large GW cases. They give you $60 worth of credit. If you plan only spending $300, you can only use $50 of that credit towards your new bag. The extra $10 goes towards your next purchase. It basically stops someone from sending in like 3 large GW cases and getting $90 off a new bag, which is unfortunate as that's what I was going to do, seeing as I can't really afford to drop $300-$400 on new cases (just bought some GW ones about a year ago).

I have plenty of foam already. My Death Guard army is getting a little to big for my Mark II and my Platoon, plus consolidating the whole army into one bag is something I'd like to do.

That also gives my Necrons their home back.

Wow. If that is correct, that DOES require some re-thinking. I've got about 8 GW cases, a Sabol transport and a Battalion that I could trade in. All the stuff (and then some) could fit into a 1520. I could carry multiple armies to my FLGS and be ready with whatever someone has to game.

The only way I see this really working is if you have this limit on store credit no matter how much you buy at any time. Otherwise I could send in all my stuff for trade, get the credit, and then not place an order with it. Later on, on a seperate order at a different time, I could then use my whole credit on an order.

Not that I am begrudging a man trying to turn a profit. After all, it IS a business, not a charity.

So, basically, you are trading in for a running 15% discount on product. This discount runs until the amount you have saved on the discount equals the value given for the traded goods.

@grits -

you cannot use that credit on a whole order.

You only can use part of it - says... the policy..

I just think it needs some.. slight math revisions if i were to turn in my stuff.

Well I feel pretty stupid then, since it's not perfectly obvious to me.

I assumed they would be recycled or sold on eBay or something, but they aren't being resold, so...where the hell are they going? Are you just going to shove them in an incinerator and post a video of it on YouTube as a big "feth you!" to Sabol?

Anyway, it seems to me like you'd get a lot more money just putting your old bags and foam on eBay. So long as you took good care of them you should get more than $5 or $20 back.

Respectfully... it just seems as if you don't understand.

Even with the discount he gives, he's making a nice little profit. Probably nothing to write home about, but not unreasonable.

If he resells these cases online, he's just putting more of the competition's product "back on the streets." If he does incinerate or otherwise destroy it, then those products are off or the FLGS game table permanently.

It won't be a HUGE chunk of what Sabol has out there, but every little piece helps.

No, I didn't mean to say Romeo should sell them, I meant people who are looking to trade them in.

Guys,

Your all looking to much into this. Its a simple system. Think of it like EB Games or Game Stop. Lets say you buy a video game and trade it in. You only get a small % of it original value because the company taking it in is taking all the risk. They have to restock that game and try and resell it. We are not even reselling the bags so we are actually incurring the full trade value at our expense. We are doing this just to help people out with old or unused bags and cases.

Its not a F U to any company or business out there. Its just a fact of life for smart business. Car dealers do it, video game retailers do it, and pawn shops do it. Heck, the car business would not be around if it was not for taking in trades. They do it with 1 year old cars, and 20 year old junkers they send to the dumpster.

We look at it this way. If you have a bunch of bags sitting in your closet or in some box some place your doing nothing with it anyway. Why not get some money for it???? We get you a fixed price regardless what you send in as long as its not some destroyed craper. The other thing is the Ebay argument. Guys, you know after its all said and done your not making much over what we posted for used bags on ebay. If people did make a bunch of money you would have already sold those bags and cases and this offer would not apply anyway.

Example of GW Hard Case on Ebay

$15.00 starting price with zero bids.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Warhammer-40k-Fantasy-Games-Workshop-CARRYING-CASE-used_W0QQitemZ200368947200QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2ea6eb8000&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_855wt_1167

Example of Sabol Army Transport NEW on Ebay. Only $30.00
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sabol-Designs-MARK-II-Army-Transport-Foam-Case_W0QQitemZ280380066101QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4147f44935&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_1313wt_941

So as you can see, people are not getting very much more for new versions of these bags then what we are offering. Along with that the bags these people and others on ebay are selling are in good working order. We are taking in any kind of bag or case regardless of condition as long as they are not totally destroyed.

Again guys, don't look to much into this. We started this program because so many of you emailed and called and asked us what to do with your old bags now that you had switched to BF bags. We had no answers until now. This deal and trade in program is set up to help you all out if you want to take advantage of it.

If not, no problem. We are here to help regardless of the trade in program. I also know its hard to believe in times like these that a business would actually be looking out for its customers needs first.

Don't worry, as you guys all get to know Battle Foam you'll see that good business is achieved only by taking care of your customers before yourself. Money and success come way after your customers needs are met.

I sometimes wish GW would follow that path.

Hope that helps.

I'm not dissing your product (which I love) or your program (which seems ballsy but cool), but you shouldn't show auctions at the beginning of their lives. People can and do get decent money for sabol and GW cases on ebay:

In this case - his program wont apply to ya then.

Romeo - word.

Hes providing an option that is nice - but he nver holds you at mandatory to do so.

Its an option.

Of course - if you sell it - and buy battlefoam - that means Romeo gets money - instead of taking hits by not selling Sabol cases and giving ya stuff.

Word.

Polonius - totally agree with you. I just grabbed the first two I found. The fact is that its a crap shoot. Nobody knows what the final price will be until the auction is over. Then comes the fun part of Ebay fees, Paypal Fees, and shipping if your really trying to sweeten the pot and sell your stuff quick. It just takes a whole lot of work do get to the same result or close to it.

We take the guess work out of the whole thing.

Fill out the form

Send in the old bag.

Get credit.

New Battle Foam bag arrives.

Done and done.

One other thing. Lets say you have a really nice Sabol Army Transport case. Real good condition job. New with foam they go for like $60 to $70 depending on what store or retailer you buy it from.

Yours would be used so figure a 20% discount on the light side. That takes it down to around lets say $50.00 you could make if you got your asking price.

Now factor in Ebay. Simple no frills auction will run you about $2.00. Down to $48.00

Then lets add the Paypal fee of 3% of the total price. Around $1.50 but lets call it $2.00 just for gaks and giggles.

Then you get banged again by ebay for selling the item. Another $1.00 to $2.00. Down now to $44.00

Oh and you now have to clean it up and ship it out. At your expense for shipping your making nothing. At the customers expense for shipping your around the $44.00.

So best case if everything goes perfect and you find that lucky buyer getting together with that lucky seller its an additional $20 to $25 over what we offer without the headaches.

Ask yourself this. Why do people take their 2 day old video games to Game Stop to get $25.00 when they could put it on ebay for $50.00. The answer....... Because its a pain in the ass. LOL

Guys, we love you as customers. We love Dakka even more for offering such a cool forum to talk about this stuff. If the program works for you please try it. If it does not, don't knock it for others. After all, its our customers that asked for it. Not us. Trust me when I tell you that we are losing money on this policy, not making it.

Only problem with the Gamestop analogy is they will take 10 games from you and give you X amount of credit, all or none of which can be used on the next game you buy from them. They don't have a 'cap' on store credit you can use at one time. But I digress, its till a good way to advertise if something was on the edge of whether to move to the BF bags. Alas it doesn't really work for us already entrenched in the other companies storage system unless we have a good deal of disposable income.

Just take a second to apply that analogy to a smaller company, the reasons are quite obvious. People are industrious and you can get into some real problems if you aren't careful about these kind of offers.

I partially rescind my former statement, not because I trust any businessman, but because of this one's willingness the take hits for the sake of his product. Anyyway i did pick up the 432 case and i gotta say i love it, the case is great, very rigid, lots o pockets and it holds my whole marine army. My only complaints are with the pluck foam, when ever i pull the foam out of the cases it rips off the bottom piece just a little more...

With the pluck foam, it helps if you trace out the shape oyu want with a hobby knife first, cutting through the lateral "connections". It's an extra step, but helps cut down on rips, lets you take it off the bottom easier. Leastways, that's always helped me with my Sabol foam.
