The Eye of Terror

Title is pretty self-explanatory.

My favorite unit is noise marines in a chaos rhino.
I kit out the noise marines to the teeth, champ, guy with blastmaster, rest with sonic blasters, and buy a chaos rhino for them, that has a megnetized combi-melta or havoc launcher. I like the combi-melta better but the Havoc is fun sometimes too.

I start the noise marines either in cover or in their rhino, depending on my enemy, vs Tau, IG, Or any gunline army I put them in the rhino, charge forward 12 inches turn 1, disembark (into cover if it's handy), and shoot, then continue shooting until I am forced to stop. vs assault armies, or close-and-shoot armies like SM, I stick them in cover to take advantage of that DELICIOUS heavy 3. The rhino serves as a fire-magnet, tankshock toy, and hope-i-get-ridiculously-lucky tankbuster. Mostly just is there to be in the way for the enemy. vs enemies that combine gunline with sending good forces (like SMs that stand and shoot with heavy weapons and send termies and stuff forward) I use the rhino like im facing an assault army, but hold the troops in reserve, when they arrive they get some awesome assault 2 at 24" vs enemies that likely can't retaliate for a couple turns.

I always use at least 1 squad, rarely 2, 3 is too much, they are crazy expensive.

So how do you use your favorite unit?

Deceiver does the goalie dance between the liths, while trying to pin/break enemy units with his mind bullets.

Soul Grinder lands + shoots his tongue, then moves + fleets + charges. If possible, he gets stuck into units that would give Bloodcrushers trouble (genestealers with preferred enemy, huge Ork units, what have you), and spreads them over his huge surface area to get plucked by a Crushers/Herald charge.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Necron Warriors with a Monolith. Apart from the fact that half the time Necons stand up after being killed, coupled with a Monolith they are deadly. If you teleport them to the Monolith portal, you can re-roll any failed We'll be Backs. Plus, you can teleport them out of tricky situations and close combat. These effects are even better when a Lord with Resurrection Orb and Veil of Darkness, as the Lord can teleport them when a Monolith is unavailible, and use his Orb to help them recover from Instant Death and Power Weapons

My favourite right now is 10 terminators armed with 2 cyclone missile launchers and a chainfist. I sometimes combat squad them (as well as my whole army) but usually they remain as one large mass preventing charges to my fire base, tacticals. I have no need to buy tacticals powerfists because the terminators have plenty! I target weak tranports or large squads of weakly armoured troops. 4 frag missiles+20 storm bolter shots have once got me some 35 hits on a unit.

Even terminators face his horrible wrath and scream in terror, for he strikes first with a bunch of S10 power attacks after scoring like 10 flamer hits.

10 Sternguard w/

w/ Drop Pod

I don't care what it is it dies to a 5 man squad w/ 4 meltagun shots. If I need to I can cast Nullzone not combat squad them and deliver the wrath of god to Seer Squads ; same thing with Nob Bikers ; Tanks ; Squads of Space Marines whatever. Of I have to I can split into 2 Combat Squads and Split the Librarian off with a STR10 AP1 Template for targeting 3 seperate Targets.

I usually have a Scout Biker Squad to ensure that they hit automatically as well.

Leman russ battle tank with with hb sponsons and a lascannon on the hull

It does everything for me. I can blow the crap out of something with the main cannon obliterating hordes and ignoring the saves of marines. The HBs give me more firepower and help to fend of something getting to close for me to be comfortable firing the battle cannon. The lascannon gives me an anti tank gun for emergencies or super heavy infantry. All I have to do is either hold it back and fire from range, or ram it down someone's throat, tank shocking while blowing holes in big things.

My favorite unit, and it has been since third edition (IIRC when I started using it) is trukk boyz. Well it was trukk boyz, now it is a unit of 12 boyz in a trukk with a PK nob. If ever there existed a glass hammer, they are it. It is an AV 10, open topped transport, filled with 12 boyz with a 6+ armor save. Every basic gun in the game, except lazguns, can stop it, and shred the unit before it gets to combat. That being said, it is crazy fast, and if you let it hit your lines you are looking at 44 s4 attacks at I3 and 4 s9 powerklaw attacks. I do nothing with it but speed towards my enemy, making them focus fire on my 150 point unit, taking the focus off the rest of my army footslogging it's way up. Simple, brutal, fragile and fun.

To be honest, I think the moment I decided this was my favorite squad was in a game vs. a TMC list. It was in 4th edition, and I was playing with 2 trukk boyz squads in my list. Because I was as mobile as I was my trukk boyz kept getting the charge. With one trukk, I sped up 13 inches, offloaded my boyz, charged a fex, chopped it down before it could do anything, consolidated back, reboarded my transport, rinsed and repeated, twice. They took down 5-600 points of carnifex before they took a casualty. It. Was. Awesome.

Wolf Scouts with Meltabombs

72 points, and Ive had them kill over 600 points worth of enemies in some games.

They also force mech gunlines to take a step forward to avoid meltadeath, and when they do that my land raiders charge in from reserve, maybe suffer 1 turn of shooting (popped smoke), then unload hell.

can also kit out the wolf scouts to max size, flamer, meltabombs, frag nades, 2 plas pistols, 2 power weps, still only something like 160 points, but then they can kill just about any dedicated ranged units. Lootas? flamer+assault. Artillery? plas pistols+meltabombs. Thunderfire? plas pistols+power weapons.

A Company Command squad in a Chimera. I sit them back in my lines and wait for those Terminators / Daemon Princes / Hive Tyrants / you get the picture, to rush into my guards and slaughter my puny Guard squad. I then rush up the Chimera, unload the CCS and proceed to unload 4 Rapid Fire BS4 Plasma Gun shots into it. People always seem to be kinda stunned when this happens, "wait, you said FOUR plasma guns?!?"

I also have to add in another entry, because its really kinda tied to the first and runs on the same principle. A platoon command squad with 4 flamers in a chimera to act as my counter charge. Its always awesome to roll some 40 odd wounds on a hormagaunt squad that just finished eating a few guards for lunch. Even marine players kinda cringe at having to make so many saves.
