ONE-MAN ARMY TO BOOST GAMES WORKSHOP
'Games Workshop has posted an increase in pre-tax
profit up from 1.06 million pounds to 7.54 million pounds for
the year ending May 31. The fantasy and war games manufacturer
and retailer reported that sales increased from 110.3 million
the previous year to 113.9 million pounds on a constant currency
basis, with exchange rate movements increasing the figure to
125.7 million pounds. Games Workshop chief executive, Mark
Wells, said that gross margin had strengthened in the second
half because of a reduction in costs of manufacturing and
supply.'
So why are prices going up again? Seems to me that the base cost of manufacturing is going down.
How you get Lesser costs+steady customer base=Higher prices is beyond me. The joys of big business I suppose.

QFT
And the company, being a PLC, has an obligation to their shareholders to increase profits. Price Rises are an easy and effective way to do this.

Hush. GW raises prices because they're evil and greedy!
Well, that might be true, but they have to, by law, act evil and greedy.

This thread sums up the principal reason why all business of any type should be banned. Money should be banned also. People should be genetically altered with the purpose being to remove feelings of avarice, greed, and the like from the human genome.

Darn these companies, making a profit. Bunch of jerks imo.
Also we all know the real reason they made a profit.
Blizzard should send out the following letter to all IG players.
Dear IG player,
Thank you for purchasing the mandatory 3+ vendettas for your IG tournament/apoc list. You have helped make us a profitable business and we have helped you easily defeat most opponents.
Best of luck (as if you'll need any)

... and remove ambition. Also any desire to improve oneself. Get rid of that nasty habit of freely choosing what is best for you and your family. I think we need a government to force everyone to stop being greedy. A new type of government for the community. Commu...something.

The only people who think like that are those at the bottom of the food chain, hence the inherent problem with communism in practice (lovely theory though. Just fundamentally flawed in reality).
Trust me. I know this. I'm self employed now. The more I work, the more I earn. The more I save, the lower I can make my overheads with tactical expenditure. Do you really, honestly think that once I've got my overheads and earnings where I want them (own car, fully paid off, and a small pool of exclusive private clients, combined with the stuff the Firm send me) that I am going to start charging less? Hell no!
Mind you, I do intend to give the elderly and disabled a small discount, say 10%, so they will request me over other drivers. This will not turn out to be a hit in 90% of cases, due to tips. Minimum fare is £3.80 in my town. I usually get given a fiver, and told to keep the change. This will not change if I adjust my own price down to £3.40 minimum.

Sad fact that too many people don't' know: while McCarthy was a twisted, power hungry man, he ended up dying nearly alone at the age of 48 due to hepatitis aggravated by alcoholism. Karma, she is a harsh mistress.

But yeah, when production costs fall, prices will go up a bit, then people will go 'meh' and start buying warmachines or buy seccond hand, profits go down, GW lowers some of their prices.
Or they put out a new codex, that seems to boost their sales.

Seriously though, I am all for a company making money with their product and I am all for a company making the right decisions for their stockholders but it seems that in general across the board costs go up and quality goes down, and it's not just GW models it's everything.
How far does GW have to go before the people buying the product wise up and stop allowing themselves to be gouged, if that is indeed the case, to death in the wallet? You can love a hobby only so much before you have to step back and analyze what you are actually getting out of it.
I am still buying but I am buying a lot less and GW is coming very close to the breaking point for me. I am seeing games like Arcane Legions coming out that are selling entire armies for 40 bucks. I hope GW sees this too.

Except, you know, the product the sell is neither addictive nor illegal nor dangerous, making the drug dealer metaphor flimsy at best and inflammatory at worst. Oh, and they're not a monopoly, there are several strong competitors in the realm of miniature wargaming (Flames of war and Warmachine come to mind), and even then, GW's products are a pure luxury.
I'm as pissed as anybody about GW's pricing, but ridiculous rhetoric isn't going to accomplish anything.

But I don't think GW's quality has gone down. The plastic kits are getting better and better (go look at the Cold One Knights if you don't believe me. Fantastic models at a pretty reasonable price) and as far as I know, 5th Edition 40k was very well received.

Holy crap you guys. Why are you all collectively CENSORED BY THE INQUISITION so hard to GW hiking their prices because "They are a business they get to!"?
You have to agree, it'd be nice if they lowered their prices. They have been needlessly hiking them for awhile. More people in the hobby with lower prices, you can buy more with lower prices. Quit defending them simply because they are a business and need to turn a profit, they would be turning a very similar profit if their price point was lower. Why have so many of you internalized GW's core values as a company?

Why? Because GW's success is good for me. A healthy GW means healthy support for a game I enjoy. Do I wish the stuff were cheaper? Of course. Am I happy they're posting a larger profit? You bet.

Why are you happy they are posting a bigger profit given their history. It means another price hike might be on the way.
