So here it goes guys i guess! time to get some pics of the force up! Dont be too brutal!

Atm i am trying to build up a resonable size Vostroyan force, that i can use as an competitive army, hopefully your replies, critisms and questions will keep me motivated! Hit gold big time though in my garage the other day, found a box full of old cadians and tanks that my mate gave me last year! so theyre being stripped I am suprised to see the lack of Vostroyans now! so many times in my local GW have i been asked by many people what the hell my models are xD Theyre so detailed, not good for a starter army, but too good to resist! So heres my army!

Looks good! I'm eager to see what the chimera looks like when it's done.

Looking good so far. I especially like the base color of the tanks. The red markings are a little to bright for me, but it looks good regardless.

If I may suggest, ink washes may do wonders for your infantry. The gold just looks too bright/plain for my eyes. A wash of Devlan mud would add some much needed shading.

Haha yes very exspensive! being 15 i havent got that sort of money to be buying in boxes at a time, so money is the only real reason my army is going so slow, hopefully can have another squad ordered for next week!

Ha yeah, im 15 too (well, 16 this Saturday) so opening up that new box of warhammer every time is like *drool*

And in the title does it mean first army as in the first one you've ever had, or Vostroyan Firstborn? Because you have good painting skills

Nice figures, tidy and simple. I like them.
But add some bits to the HW base, looks too empty, try a couple sandbags, spare weapons...
And if money is an issue why don´t you try converting Cadians or Bretonian men at arms with Pig Iron or Westwind heads?

So im back from the Local GW, checked out the new release (Space Hulk, love the models) and took on your advice and invested in some Devlan mud and a wash brush. Going to start getting to work now experimenting with it!

@ M, I just cant help but love these models, and i believe they are worth the money! I am thinking of stripping some of those cadians a friend gave me, and painting them in an urban camo style, to maybe used in larger games, and add more troops to the force. Any ideas?

reading this blog, i did not see the valk coming at all, i mean i dont see how it fits in with vostroyans and if your making a storm trooper squad

have you had any past experience painting models, like airfix and such?

The valkyrie itself is such an awesoe model and too good not to have! These are a city fighting force and i can imagine the need for troops needing to be flown into the middle of cities to get into the heat of the battle. hmmm i didnt really think it over, but i can imagine it will come in very useful. Let me think more onto that one

No no experience with small scale models. I took art for my GCSE so maybe that counts?

Shame on the GW people who don't know them. I think they are the most charismatic branch of the IG forces.
I bought some of them from the net and when i'm finished with my CSM and orks, i'm going Vostroyan too.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing more of your army!!

Looking pretty good you have a lot of the basics down , I agree a hit with the washes will bring a nice amount of detail to your metalics .

And pig iron does have a pretty good head that woulld go great with the Vostroyan army , pop those on the cadians you dug up and there you have some vets .

WOW! Thank you so much for this link, i think i will use these heads with the cadians to build up and bulk my force out a bit better! Do you think GS'ing would be needed to add extra Vostroyan detail? If so i better scrounge around on ebay for some, never used any before

Infantry have been washed, and i feel they have come out quite well. The shining gold has been dulled down to a more realistic standard, as they would encounter lots of dust etc in a city scape environment. Second Chimera is around 75% finished, metalics need cleaning up, details added, stripes done, and i think i willleave the crew man for now, and maybe think of replacing his head with one of those winter pig iron heads? Also started work on a scout sentinel that was in the box, trying to come up with a dynamic pose for it, fun so far!

Another update Pig Iron heads have been ordered, gunna take 2 - 6 weeks due to the international post O_o which sucks, but holiday next week so that will be handy i guess, plenty to do in the meantime!!

UPDATE: metallics have been finished with a wash, i personally like this effect, it has dimmed the shinyness alot, and adds to a more realistic effect, so thanks for that guys!

For the HW teams I always imagine them to be surrounded by gear, ammo boxes, sandbags, digging tools etc. So I'd have a rummage in your bitz box and see what else you could add.

So... we're 2 15 year old imperial guard collectors called Jack. Now that's a coincidence.

edit: And take a picture of the whole army, i think it would look cool

yeah will do, when its more bulky took a few the first time i made this post, but it looks too small at the minute :( thanks for the support, got a few busy days this week, painting the tanks, and trying to make the HW base look more realistic!

I might buy a box of Vostroyan and make it look like a Vostroyan planet was under attack and some cadians have come to help the defence, which would be good fluff and be a cheaper way to bulk out your force until you buy more.

And my Cadian battleforce was dispatched today, should come tomorrow

UPDATE: Work has started on an old scout sentinel, worked out a cool pose and have glued / pinned it all in place, just waiting for the glue to fully dry so can continue work on it in the morning, then i can start adding gear / details to it!

edit: forgot i also added another set of sandbags and a backpack to my HW base, pics in the morning
