It says in the codex that it effects all UNITS with combat tactics, and says nothing about which army it effects. does this mean if 2 ultrasmurfs armies are fighting and one has calgar, do they both get the ability? this came up as an academic discussion at my GW store today (we just ruled that it doesnt affect the enemy army), but both me and the black shirt that was there thought that RAW would denote that it effects both armies.

GW has often FAQ'ed effects such as these to mean in the army that possesses the item/character/vehicle, etc.

So if I use God of Wars ability to pass a morale check in close combat, do I take no retreat wounds?

No.

Maybe.

I don't Know.

Can you repeat the Question?

To clarify:
The GW FAQ does not address it and the wording is written is such a way that the answer can be both Yes and No.
And while I know the INATFAQ means nothing to you Timmah, it suggests that the answer is "Yes".

OP Is correct, Both Space Marine armies benefit from God of War because the RAW says all units which includes enemy ones, and FAQs are just houserules, they aren't actually rules.

Or atleast, that's what some people will tell you...

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

I do not believe that you take no retreat wounds with space marines ever unless they're fearless or they try to flee and get swept. (In which case ATSKNF saves them and you take no retreat wounds)

yes, the no retreat rule is if you "automaticly pass for any reason, you may have the fearless rule for example" I hated this with commissars and conscripts.

God of War does not make you pass automatically. It lets you choose to pass or Fail. Because there is the chance (albeit optional) that you will fail, you do not automatically pass.

Except the actual taking of the test is the requirement to automatically pass or not - if you pass the TEST automatically then you take no retreat wounds.

Choosing to pass the test results in passing the test automatically. Read the rules for taking tests - the decision to take the test isnt important, it's rolling the dice. Additionally elsewhere choosing to fail in COmbat Tactics is defined as automatically failing the test.

So if I choose to pass morale if losing cc I don't take no retreat wounds?

Great.

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

The Codex disagrees with you:

C:SM page 51 wrote:
.....can choose to automatically fail any morale check it is called upon to take

So you can CHOOSE to AUTOMATICALLY fail the test. Almost as if actually taking the test is what counts - and passing it without rolling dice is what is considered to be automatically passing it.

Yes, well done Nos, take a totaly unrelated rule and say "AHA! I TOLD YOU SO!"

GoW says you may Choose to Pass or Fail the test. Nothing about Automatically.

Except it defines the act of choosing to fail as still constituting automatic failure. They have a choice, yet that still results in the test failing automatically.

Analogous situation, except they can only choose to fail. If failure is automatic wouldn't that make passing automatic?

Additionally if you read the definition of taking tests it's the actual rolling of the dice that constitutes taking the test: what you do before that is not "the test" and cannot therefore impinge on whether the test is passed "automatically" or not. IF you manage to get a result without rolling any dice that sure constitutes "automatic"

And now 3 times
The two sides are thus:
Automatic Camp:
You Pass the test without rolling any Dice. Thus it is "Automatic".

Non-Automagic Camp:
You choose to pass or fail. Because you choose to do one or the other, and there is a possibility to fail (albeit optional) you cannot have passed automatically, as automatically implies no choice.

Of course, ONE SINGLE WORD could solve this problem, but alas, GW's editorial staff consists of Howler Monkeys and Giraffes.

Let's not 'lower' the abilities and esteem of Howler Monkeys and Giraffes, ok?

I'm sure they have feelings.
