If you wanted to quit the Wow addiction, would a replacement video game really be good for you? I don't want to be That Guy in a video games thread, but what worked for me after cutting down my gaming time as much as I did was actively going out with my friends who were more of the extrovert persuasion and working on my musicianship.

But if you need a "patch" to keep you going until you kick the monkey off your back, Fallout 3 was pretty good.

Dakka. You need more of it. No exceptions.

Dungeons and Dragons Online just went free!

while its not single player, it could be a way of breaking the wow habit

Just think of it as the MMO version of methadone!

I quit wow some 2 months ago (for my 7th time since the game released) and haven't had any issues. I also started playing Warhammer Online last weekend and LOVE it. Also helps that I now have a GF and life is sweet

ODST comes out this coming week.

Also, WoW isn't good for you, lol. I've lost too many hours of my life to that game and regret it. I'd honestly pick up a new hobby or somethin, try and get away from gaming for a while.

Think of it this way. When you are much older, are you going to look back at your life and be satisfied with how you lived it? You have to answer that question for yourself, but for me that answer would be no if I spent it in front of a computer screen playing what I consider a glorified chat channel for hours a day rather than working on something that allows me to grow as a person or improving a talent that I enjoy using. I'd never be happy with myself if I weren't an active musician.

I quit WoW a while ago, and just spent the rest of the time playing other games. Then I cut out single player games (I still play games with friends, just never on my own) and I have a lot more time in which to be productive. Pretty much as soon as I stopped I put a lot more effort into the other things I was doing, and had very positive results.

I vote for quitting WoW and getting a job.

There's another thing to consider too; finding new hobbies and pursuits helps you to meet new people and opens up many doors of opportunity through them than pursuing a video game hobby. I've met plenty of people since I started going to see bands I liked at bars around New Orleans. Since last year I've been extremely fortunate to play with a band formed by former members of Harry Connick jr's band, and through them their are all sorts of connections I have, and continue to make. It helps that it's also incredibly fun.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

QFT what Railguns said in general. Music is great, and if you can actually play something, even better. Then again, I've wasted a lot of time with the whole music/musicianship/bands thing...

I've wasted far too much of my life on computer games too, and now I have a great job, fireballing around all day in a nice car, fixing compu...

Nevermind.

Throw your Xbox out a window and get into some Oblivion mods on the PC version. The overhaul/monster mods make it quite a different game indeed, and there are also mods that completely change the way in which leveling and attribute gains work.

Also GO GARRET! GET THAT JOB! PUNCH THAT SACK! TELL US YOUR PROBLEMS! HATE YOUR DAD LIKE EVERY HEALTHY TEEN AGED BOY!

Well diablo 3 is on the way that will be awesome . As for wow I used to play and I thought it was so awesome til I sat back and looked at it as a whole . You say you play 3hrs a day sadly in wow that squat a decent raid is at leat 5 hrs . Think about it you sign on b ullshit in the auction house for crap you use for maybe a level or 2 than you have to wait for people to get there act together if you are going to raid which is really the only way to get good gear that takes about an hour than just getting too one boss is an hour you have abnout an hour left after you kill the now you roll for items which a lot of the times you have that one hunter that can use fething cloth gloves which are really mad for a priest .

The game is mad for you to take for ever to progress so you keep giving in your monthly dues , if you think about it 90 percent of the games is waiting around and grinding the same thing over and over ,

Yea quitting things like that is ALWAYS a good idea. Seriously being addicted to a game really IS an addiction. I used to play 40k with a group of guys years ago. And one of them sold all his armies, lost his house, wife and kids because of everquest I think it was. Thats serious lol.

At first it WILL be sucky. You wont really know what to do with yourself. And thats normal. You need to GO OUT and find things to do. After a little bit of time you'll realize it was a smart choice.

I can tell ya that I LOVE playing games with a group of friends or my wife and kids. Try to cut loose and be completely slowed. It sounds weird, but having that much fun with them, ruins it when your alone.

You know what helped me? Porn. When I was on a break from WoW I'd use the time originally spent mining khorium to organize my magazines and erotica, and I'd surf for more.

Or you could watch Grey's Anatomy... lovley show.

You need to realize that trying to go without something you are so heavily involved in is going to result in withdrawal syndrome. Your brain chemistry is going to flip out on you until it normalizes without that constant input. Once you get through that, life becomes more interesting, colors are more vivid, and you notice things about life and others you wouldn't have before. Take some time away from the box, and whenever you feel the nag tell your brain to calm down, this is good for it.

Dakka. You need more of it. No exceptions.
