Why they arm them with that it boost your strength but it's slow and you will get some damage before you strike back?Can they arm them with another power weapon like power sword,axe etc.

Why? Because that's how it is. If you want faster weapons arm them with power claws or if you are space wolves, power weapons.

It depends on what Codex you're using. Some Codices can take other power weapons in normal Terminator squads, and Assault Terminators can always take lightning claws.

It could also be that with a 2+ armor save, they can wait until they beat your face .

I think it's because Terminators were originally designed for fighting in boarding actions and indoor facilities. In such tight spaces, it's easier to reach foward and crush someone's skull than it is to slash at them with a power weapon.

I could see that, especially considering the other name for Terminator armor is Tactical Dreadnought Armor. Get where Dreadnoughts can't as easily.

Ok fist comes handy in space hulks,hives etc. but when in wide spaces why didn't they give them other power weapons who are faster.I would personally would like to use mastercrafted small powerfist that is the size of my fist.

So...you want a powerfist that strikes at normal initiative and gets rerolls? I'm not sure I get your point. And as people have already pointed out, there's the double lightning claw combo that terminators can carry. That is fast and deadly CC power, don't see the need for other at-initiative weapon combos?

Game balance.

It's rare to see players calling Terminators a weak or overcosted unit.

the speed is offset by their save.
you want faster... take lightning claws.

like a few have mentioned. terminators were made for boarding actions and confined fights. the fist also comes in handy for ripping down troublesome bulkheads. of course this is all fluff... see response one for game play answer.

Not to mention smash through a bulkhead or peal open a door.

Because power fists are what the GW designers gave us. It is what it is. No one at GW is genius or a master tactition.

Actually, the real reason (and this is hidden by the imperial propagandists), is that there is a fault with the gene-seed of most chapters that causes gigantism of the left hand when you make contact with terminator armor.

If that's true, that might be one of the most obscure things I've heard. And 40k has some weird things. But having an allergic reaction to Terminator armor's left hand... wow.

not even partially kidding, i heard it from a guy, who knows a guy, who is the brother of a guy, who's sister used to date Belial's second cousin.

You can always go with lightning claws and mostly the powerfists are for game balancing.

But what about Chaos Termis they come with power swords standard

Yeah, look how expensive a Terminator gets with a Nemesis Force Weapon instead of a FISTO.

Terminator power fists can also be upgraded to chainfists, which are godly in killing vehicles, and the double strength as well as a 2+ save is already amazing

When Terminators came out Power Fist were not I1 and the most powerful wweapon they could have. When they went to I1. they did not change the "base weapons" for the Terminators

I think that it would be better to get inbuilt heavy weapon

Gnillot Suoivbo? Yeah, that guy has some pretty cool stories.

Everyone's missing the point.... Terminators are so hard to kill that they can laugh off your pathetic strikes before ripping your head off at their leisure. If you want Terminators that can go into CC against anything skilled and tough, you get thunder hammers or lightning claws. Otherwise they're a multipurpose unit that can do equally well at medium range, especially with an assault cannon.

Power fists maybe slow, yes, but they're cheap for there S10 goodness!

Nope strength 8. Power fists are not Dreadnought close combat weapons. They just double strength. Unless there is a S5 guy with a Power fist I'm forgetting. I'm going to guess that it's Creed or at least his fault in some way.

Ok, chaos terminators are default equipped with power weapons, and you can change them for power fists, chain fists, lighting claws... but this is because they are CSM, so they use old equippment and they are more agressive.
