I couldn't agree more. Shoot the lot of them, clas A drug dealers are scum.

If anything it is "La Familia" themselves who are racist, by foisting their drugs onto non Mexicans only.

However the ides that these guys are "sophisticated" just because they are spread throughout the US is a nonsense. They will have a key contact in each city they operate in and that is all, how that key contact delegates his responsability is his own business as long as he doesn't screw up. This set up will be followed all the way down to street level thereby no one knows anyone else in the organisation other than the person directly above them and the person directly below. The reason for this is it makes it difficult for the authorities to gether information and increases accountability for the cartel.

They actually wrapped up 1,100 in total. Note none of them were US citizens or in the US legally. But open borders are just fine.

Now Frazz, careful with that comment. I made a comment about closing borders and get flamed. LOL.

Open borders are a great thing.

This is why drugs need to be legalized. As long as they're illegal we're giving black marketers lucrative careers that also has a bonus side effect of dragging down the society around them into a state of paranoia and fear.

Like guns, making commonly used drugs illegal only hurts the taxpaying citizen and strengthens the illegal market. Hollywood wants it coke and thats not going to ever change.

Yea I'm a dreamer but I'd legalize just about everything on the street thats generating substantial revenue. If the addicts of society are going to kill themselves lets at least tax the gak out of 'em like we do with cigs and alcohol -- but still offer them at prices that beat the street's and increase the quality to boot.

Like guns, by making this stuff illegal we're just hurting otherwise productive citizens and the rest of society by basically letting the black market exist. Take away drugs and prostitution and they'll be screwed and imo would see a 'better' society in the generations to come.

More to the list: Mushrooms, salvia (salvia I think is starting to become illegal), and peyote.

You have very weird morals. You're awfully execution happy yet you steal things (like Windows 7).

I think that the execution penalty should be instated for internet piracy/theft.

Funny that whole theft thing. I'm sure 99% of internet users have dl'ed illegal music, movies and games. Not saying it's right but unless you can prove to me you've never lifted even a single song off the inet illegally you have no room to point fingers.

Not to mention I'm getting a new laptop for xmas and shock and awe, it comes with windows 7 and shock and awe, I'll be able to put win7 on my desktop pc as well.

So for now it's only temporary.

How does internet piracey equate to people killing kids by selling them crack/cocaine/meth/heroin/XTC?

You make very weird anologies Ozy.

I just found it amusing that you advocate strict penalties for all sorts of crimes, regardless of the inherent problems that such penalties would cause yet still feel it's morally ok to illegally download something that doesn't belong to you. It doesn't matter if you are going to get it later, stealing is still stealing.

Many controls have harsher penalties than the US. Some are better, some are worse.

How is executing crack/coke/meth/xtc dealers going to create problems? I'd say it would help solve them.

Piracy is downloading with intent to keep said illegal software permanently. If I buy a computer with win7 (or in this case gf is buying it for me) M$ is still getting their money from me (well, gf) for a product as part of the laptop cost covers the OS.

I mean technically in your eyes downloading mp3's that you already have a cd for is theft, or downloading a codex in .pdf form even though you already own a legal copy is theft. Neither one is the case. Having mp3's of songs that you own the cd for is totally legal, wether you ripped them yourself or dl them. The artis still got his/her/their money.

Define intent to distribute.

Fateweaver wrote:

No, piracy is the illegal acquisition of content. It may also include the intent to illegally distribute said content; especially given the advent of the torrent.

That's openly debatable. Much of electronic copyright law is still being settled as its a fairly recent legal sector.

True, and still a totally stupid situation. I cannot think of any real reason why a person should not be able to have an electronic copy of anything that was purchased from the legit source. The fact that most torrents are of lower quality than the originals (even though this is in itself debatable, especially as technology for it improves; this is pretty much a different debate though), does help the point I am trying to make. The fact that companies are not being asked to directly provide, nor promote this source, does seem like a very good compromise to me. I think that it is a bit unfair for a company to avoid that option entirely, only for want of a re-purchase... very annoying. On this same note though, it is unfair for the companies to have their product easily accessible, for free, and without fear of prosecution for the user. Some form of (and this is already being developed intensely, I am sure) contract storing, where a customer of various online distributors, could keep safe records of all of their purchases. This would obviously not include the hard copy for anyone who "lost" their original, just easy legal access, basically no fear of prosecution, to whatever product you purchased from an online distributor; using your contract account.

If I get a music file of of iTunes, as far as I know, I am now entitled to that song in an electronic form permanently. Basically, there is no longer a need for me to pay for that song again, if it is clearly for myself. Perhaps the "clearly for myself" part is complicated in terms of torrents, but there is no legitimate reason for someone to take the time to spread those files through hard-format; anyone can get that, and there is basically nothing that companies can do to stop those files from being shared. They can try to prosecute after the file has been downloaded, but they will have an incredibly hard time getting rid of that file (which is completely impossible without a private army to invade peoples homes on little more than tips).

Some time in the future, I am sure that most of this will be sorted out effectively, and according to the reality of such products. You cannot download illegal copies of cars, or soft drinks, and that is the only problem I could forsee; this is a problem that is better suited to a Salvador Dali painting though.
