Simply because there are other horrible jobs to have or there are jobs that might
be less stressful, but pay less. But it made it at #15 because cnn money is a valid
research site filled with completely fair and balanced information (not really).

Have you ever been a teacher? Teachers have to deal with kids or high schoolers all day and then when the day is over they still have to stay there cause of papers to grade. OR how about haveing to deal with parents and sugarcoat their child getting an f?

I'm not knocking teachers. I was knocking some of the other persons (or maybe this is not directed at me).

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Both my parents are teachers, my wife is training to be a teacher (for some unknown reason ) and my granddad was a teacher.

I think it can be a very stressful job.

Both my parents said that if they were still teaching in the state sector (rather than the independent sector) they would have quit to do something else years ago.

Edit: Though I can't visit the site linked to at work to discover what factors this is ranked with, but I imagine that almost whatever system of stress you rate it on, it will be pretty high up the list.

Sure, there are more horrible jobs and more stressful jobs, but for the money, I think teaching is pretty high up there.

Yea my dad is retired military whose lifelong goal was to pursue a teaching profession after retirement...says he hates its now but still comes home with instructor of the year awards. He's taught ROTC before and now teaches computer networking to adults - says the attitudes of the class is gakky to deal with, etc.

And thats dealing with adults; dealing with gradeschool kids must suck ass. If I was teacher I'd be very tempted to use educational videos and movies I enjoyed as "teaching aids" most of the time.

In fact the only gradeschool scenarios I'd want to be in a teaching role would be: sports coach or teaching the gifted and talented kids.

There is an incredible number of stressors that a public school teacher has to deal with. I wouldn't be particularly surprised to see teachers make a "stress list". Especially in Louisiana.

That and I don't know if you remember school but 90% of my teachers sucked- I also know quite a few teachers and half of it is yeah they suck- but the other half is the way they are chained down to these programs and can't teach how they want to...

Was directed at me, I think.

I'm not knocking teachers, either. I'm just thinking of crap jobs that I know people
work that are stressful and pay less than teachers, or are less stressful but pay
even less than teachers.

Public librarians in small districts, for example.

Private school teachers.

Etc.

Yes, I teach. I love my job, but I know I'm nowhere near the top of the list and I
won't any awards for the work that I do. I admire the people who do the job
well (while I couldn't cut it myself, I think a military/officer background might be
a perfect background to do the job) and those who push for excellence.

I am a teacher in an Inner London secondary school, and am Head of Learning for Year 9, which is an incredibly stressful job. However, I am currently earning £49,000+, and as soon as I get around to filling in some paperwork will be able to get that up to more like £53,000. Yes, it is incredibly stressful, but I get paid for it, so I can't whinge too much.

I would hate to be a teacher now. I imagine it's a lot more stressful than it was when we were in elementary and especially when our parents were kids.

Also a lot more dangerous. How many schools were shot up when I was in lets say elementary 20+ years ago. Less than a handful from the time I was in 1st grade to my freshman year in HS. Now it's been damn near a handful in as many years.

I feel sorry for some teachers.....

When a teacher enters the classroom for the first time, everyone knows if there weak, or if there strong. You do what the strong ones say, cause their make sure you go to there detentions, or stick a text book infront on you and tell you to write as much as you can by the end of the lesson or your coming back lunchtime.

The weak ones generaly do the same thing as the strong ones, most kids wont listen to them. You wont go to there detention, or do the work they have set. But weak ones are usauly cover teachers.

I think every kid in the world knows this. Its weird Hard to explain.

I thought it would have been higher, honestly. Its not an easy job. You have to rely on a lot of other people acting in a competent manner; while absorbing the blame for any of their mistakes.

Fund raising sucks just as much; especially if you happen to be working under a quota system.

With regard to holidays - it is not as good as you think. You land up working most of them - only 25-30 hours a week, admittedly, but it kinda makes up for the 60+ hours a week the rest of the time.

I have done other jobs before teaching and have never found anything as hard. The relentlessness of it during the day makes it so hard. There is NO let up, not like other jobs at all.

I can seriously think of lots of things more stressful than curator. Here's a few off the top of my head:

*Homicide bomber instructor
*British Dentist (sorry! couldn't help myself, here's one back for you)
*American Mensa search coordinator (see)
*Atheist comedian in Alabama
*KKK organizer in the Houston Wards
*Frazzled's "mental health professional" team. "Oh nuts he got loose and is posting on the internet again."
