So as the question says i'm having a difficult choice picking what guard I want, I love both Cadian and Catachan fluff, I think both model types are cool, but i'm not sure which to pick I ask you Dakka members to help me make this choice. Cadian or Catachan help me decide!

"They shall be my finest Cannon Fodder, these men who give themselves to me. Like clay I will mold them and in the furnace of war they will become cracked and broken. They will be of tissue paper and whimpy muscle. In tissue paper armor I clad them and with the mightiest flashlights they will be armed. They will be touched by every sort of plauge or disease to help further make them unhappy, all sickness will blight them. They will have almost no tactics, strategies, but lots of machines so that they can atleast stand up to a foe in battle. They are my tar pit against the Terror. They are the bulk of Humanity. They are my Imperial Guard and they will know much fear!"

I went Cadian, but go whichever way you want, or go both...make a "mixed forces" regiment...whatever really.

Im just trying to decide which i'm going to get first, I can only afford one for a while but later on im going to go and get both Cadians will represent rookies and Catachan vets, since I can only get one to start off with i'm wondering what set I should buy first.

I like cadian because I don't really like the catachan jungle trooper theme.

But I don't play or know anything about IG, so you might as well just ignore me.

I'd say Cadian. But I'm kind of biased, making a Cadian force using the FW respirator kits to make a fully themed "containment" force, things like that.

But, I do have to say...I can't stand seeing Catachans and Cadians together. I don't know what it is, but it just always seems sloppy to me. There's plenty of ways to represent veterans in a Cadian force rather than just a different breed of Guard in there.
Heck, my "standard" Guardsmen are going to have all the bayonet lugs shaved off their lasguns, and I'm working on actually damaging the armor to make it look more like even the standard rank and file Guardsman has seen more than enough combat.

I just seen Catachans as veterans since they like to drop alot of thier gear and loss thier helmets, so far it seems everyone is leaning towards Cadians, now if they only had a Vostroyan plastic army set then I would pick them hands down, but thats just a poor dream for a poor man.

Everyone who doesn't vote Catachan is a little girl who got beat up by Rambos in highschool.

Play Catachans. Your army will stand apart from other Guard armies, as most people just use Cadians. Ditch the football armor and don the red bandana of bad attitude.

do you want to paint skin or camo's?

better yet do both, the torsos look great together and mixed up. imo gives them a more realistic feel that either one alone.

I don't mind really, the painting part doesn't matter since I really enjoy painting, really its just about the look and feel of the models.

Thats actually a really good Idea, but I can only aford one box set and one codex for the time being if I could I would most definatly load down.

But alass I'm a poor Kentucky boy ='(

I also second for mixing them up. Cadian bodies and catchan legs look good when combined.

I'm starting a steel legion army.

Downside: metal guardsmen are more 'spensive.

Upside: I have to buy a lot less of them.

Catachan.. its nice to see variety in armies.

Some of my men still have the cadian heads but many have bits swaps from marauders and wolf scouts.
But in all honesty would you go to a ice world dressed up in catachan garb?

I've sold so many armies. :(

Valhallans.

What? You asked what the best regiment was.

To be honest, the only problem I have with catachans is the heads. I wonder how Cadian heads would look on Catachan bodies?

I've thought about using pig iron productions rebel heads on catachans. The pig iron militia heads with the gas masks would look good on cadian models. I don't really like he head sculpts on either the cadian or catachan models though.

depends, mate.
If you want an US Army feel, play Cadians, and if you want a Vietnam Veterans army, play catachans...

Catachans are my personla favorite, though!

Meh, depends if your playing horde or tank heavy or a little bit of both.

Cadians - mix
Catachans - horde/vet heavy
steel legion - tank heavy

All the other non FW armys are bad IMHO because there not getting updated models soon.

Im not going to lie, i think you should do some sort of kitbash and make your own imperial guardsmen, its alot more fun that way. also it looks unique ;]

Its really your own preference. I picked Cadian, because I can't stand the look of Catachans, unless they are extremely well painted.

I vote for mix and match!
I kitbashed my guardsmen.
I Used cadian torsos and arms/weapons. wood elf heads and high elf archer legs. they now look more gothic and darker, which i like
If you just order the seperate bits from thewarstore its not that much more expencive.

I think guard look fantastic with a set painting shcemme (I have no idea how to spell it) but catachans can't really do that, I say Cadian, I;m also not a big fan of Catachan fluff. Hahaha remember the old catachan models, their arms were soooooo big.

I use Cadians, the look is nice. Admittedly, I think Tallarn looks the best but I want to run snow camo and those don't really mix.

I'm thinking that if make a fluffy army down the road I'll use Catachans with some greenstuff as Penal Legionnaires.
