Due to rising manufacturing and shipping costs Privateer Press will be increasing the MSRP on our Formula P3 paints from $3.00 to $3.50 MSRP effective March 1, 2010 (PIP 93019 through 93082). The upcoming price increase will not affect Formula P3 washes or the Formula P3 Faction Paint sets which will remain at their current MSRPs of $3.50 and $17.99 respectively. Even with the price increase, we believe our customers will find Formula P3 paints to remain the best in both value and quality available today.
In addition, due to production problems and delays with Chinese manufacturers, Privateer Press will be pushing back the release of the following plastic kits: PIP 31070 Firefly Light Warjack, PIP 32059 Exemplar Cinerators, PIP 32068 Vigilant Light Warjack, and PIP 34070 Ripjaw Light Warjack. While we apologize for the setback, we are determined to ensure that these products meet our exceptional quality standards before releasing them to the public. New release information will be announced as soon as it is available.

The paints are similar to GW or Vallejo. But I prefer Vallejo over all the others. I really like their model and panzer colors.

I believe they're still cheaper, better quality and have more in them than the standard GW pots. I buy Vallejo for all my FoW and basic colour (Black, White etc.) needs.
I was planning to convert Deathrippers into Ripjaws so the delay is inconsequential to me.

To me most of the paints (Privateer & GW) are all the same, except for Privateer's white. That one is clearly better than GW's, Imo, because is covers underlying dark colors a lot better.

Oh noes. They are raising prices and delaying minis.
Quick, where the pitchforks and torches at.
Oh yeah. This is PP. They can do no wrong.
*Interesting to know that PP's plastics are made in China. Even more reason for me not to get into WM.*

Delaying minis you have outsourced to make sure the quality is to you're expectation (and I am almost keeping a straight face) is a good move. Bringing the paints into line with market prices is probably a good business move.

Fate , companies are known to have things made in china and repackaged in another country and labeling them as (made in the later country) instead of china.
Its dirty sort of , but it happens a lot , ahhh despair

PP and GW paints are nowhere near the same...
PP has much better coverage, and their tones are a lot more nuanced than GW...
i have used both lines since their inception (20+ years of GW, 5 years of PP), and i have to say that PP has taken over my pallette...
the subtle undertones in the colors really make me happy...
colors like Coal Black, Greatcoat Grey, Trollblood Highlight, Khador Red Base, Sanguine Base, Pig Iron, Blighted Gold, Trollblood Base, Heartfire, Radiant Platinum, Armor Wash, Flesh Wash, and many others...
there have been some issues with the metals, but the few that i've listed have not been a problem...
i still use Boltgun Metal and Mithril Silver from GW, but that's about it...
i've not tried the Vallejo Air metals, but i hear rave reviews from everyone who uses 'em...
it's sad to see that the prices will go up soon, but every pot of paint that gets a lot of use from me (painting daily) have lasted a couple of years each, so it's all good...
honestly, there are a few tones that PP has which GW/Vallejo don't and vice versa...i always say go with a mix of paint lines, as there is something to be said about each company's paint...
i don't think that it's a good thing to use one line to the exclusion of all others...
the right tool for the job, and all that...
cheers

Just to play devil's advocate here... if they've had excellent quality up to now (I don't use their products, so I don't know) with models also made in China, this doesn't mean they're using poor manufacturers... it could just be a mis-step in this particular run.

A common misconception for N.American hearing product commissioned to be produced in China = bad quality.
This is not true , while Chinese product are indeed bad , its completely different when they are making it for someone else.
If something goes wrong this way, you can bet on the hiring company got over their heads in "shaving" the cost down so much that the products are effected.

It was a light hearted stab.
People bring out pitchforks and torches when GW raise prices or something is delayed (though delays are caused due to wishlisting becoming fact regarding models/codeciies).
Just shocked (actually I'm not) that nobody is raising pitchforks over PP raising prices .50 cents per pot of paint. If GW did the same tomorrow there would be 50 pages of whine about it.

You say that like it is a bad thing. Nothing wrong with twisting a knife and laughing at other people and double standards. He does have a point - many people can be a tad "generous" to PP and their motives.

Though I shower so you must purposely look for my posts.
Sad actually.
I'm just stating facts Vlad. PP is being more "dickish" lately and PP fans just disregard it. In 3-5 years they will treat their customers the same way GW and every other corporate entity treat their customers and then the "true" whining will start.
I've nothing against PP. I use their products. I'm just calling it like I see it. I don't mind a .50cent product hike to paints anymore than I mind GW raising prices 10% on everything (not quite that much but you know what I mean).
I'm just pointing out the flaws in PP and I get shot down as "attacking" PP. You take it upon yourself to point out my flaws and attack me whenever. You feel justified in attacking me. Good on you. Now be a good little boy and run along and play with your dollies. Mkay?

With all due respect, you don't know that. You're expecting or hoping it, certainly, but there's no reason for Privateer to follow GW's example. Other companies haven't. Reaper is still pretty much the same as it's ever been, isn't it, loved by few and hated by fewer. Or then there's Rackham, who makes GW seem sane.

There might be a reason to why there are no fire + pitch fork for the raise , here is i think why:
Privateer Press Formula P3 18 ml $3.00
Citadel Citadel Color 12 ml $3.70

.
Or customers can hope it gets halted by quality check first before been sent out to the stores.
This sounds sort of familiar >.>

Like all the toys made in China found to have had toxic chemicals.
Go go Mattel and Hasbro and Fisher Price. Way to kill kids just to save a few dollars per doll/toy.
Amount though Luna should have no bearing on the fact it's a price increase. I've also not seen/heard anyone liking PP because you get 6ml more than with Citadel. I like Citadel, P3, Vallejo and Ral Partha. RP is actually the best deal around if you don't mind ordering direct from them. I paid $4.75 US for 90ml of paint (5 jars worth of P3) and I find the RP colors to be better than P3 in some regards. 15ml bottles of RP are $1.33 US.
I'm not attacking PP for raising prices. In the grand scheme of things I just don't care. I now only use hobby paints for touch up and detail work. When it comes to basecoating anything I use airbrush paints and an airbrush. Those paints are the best deal on the market compared to hobby paints. 16oz bottle of Wicked Red cost me $17. 12oz of P3 Red thinned with 4 oz of water to make it act like Wicked Red would cost me $60+.
I'm just pointing out how the PP/ WM fans defend everything they do when they ( PP) perform the same "dick moves" as GW. It was a light hearted stab because contrary to any GW price hike thread this one doesn't have PP fans gnashing their teeth and that to me is pretty funny.

I think you're partially on to something here, in that few people here seem to use P3 paints, it could just be a community thing. I know I personally can't get P3 even if I wanted to, the Privateer vendor in my area doesn't stock individual colors, I believe. So the price increase already affects far fewer people than a comparable GW paint adjustment would.

Its nothing to do with bad quality. well it can be, but this a different issue. You know well enough some of the AT-43 stuff is excellent quality. It all comes down to availability.
Let us look at the OP:
RogueMarket wrote:

We have heard that before.
Privateer got greedy and started outsourcing their balls to the Chinese vice. Companies in it for the short term outsource to China, companies in it for the long term avoid doing this. Frankly I expected PP to be wiser.

Where do you get the idea we are amazed at Chinas manufacturing capacity itself? Some of us see this as a cautionary tale repeated over and over as western companies get fethed up in China through outsourcing. Whats amazing is that more companies seem to be following this siren call.

But also the most important factor that has already been mentioned is that PP fan aren't pissed off.
When you look at the scheme of things - who has the better customer relations.
PP has respected a lot of their fans with free rules, trial rules, re-issuing of cards, army creation software, etc.
Which no doubtfully makes people happy.
Which company has a better fanbase perception? Privateer does. Customer = happy => Customer is loyal.
same with all those fetthing people who buy ipods. Customer is happy - > customer will pay crapload for overpriced computer/mp3.
