I'm not a Golden Daemon painter or anything, but in my experience the PP is a little bit better then Citadel, in as that it's a comparable product that gives substantially more for the same price. The coverage is hit and miss - in most, it will cover a little better then GWS, but the reds are more problematic and will still require a good undercoat like Foundation. So, generally better then the base Citadel line, not quite as good at covering black as Foundation. Vallejo is still a little better then either for general purpose, in my opinion.

The amount of paint in PP pots vary a lot in my experience, when buying them at my flgs everyone checks them 1 by 1.

Their yellow seems to give better coverage from the GW yellows I've used. Vallejo still seems to work better to me, but they'll remain a good back-up I don't mind paying 50 cents more. Give me two more price increases to start complaining.

Fate Weaver, I'm not angry with Privateer because they communicate better than GW. Both companies act in their own interests, but PP keeps it fan base in their loop. GW doesn't seem to care. And it is that perception that makes the difference.
I use P3 paints and like them a lot. The differences I see are mainly the P3s are thicker than GW's paints and PP's pot design is better. I've stopped using GW paints, except for boltgun silver, because of the pots.

As Cannerus said, I think we will start seeing more bitching if this becomes a yearly thing like GW's price increases.
I'm willing to give PP more slack because they have been good to me far more than GW's support.
Example: I was building my Bastions, dropped a head and couldn't find it anywhere. After checikng PP's bits site and not finding it, I sent an email to the front desk and asked if I could buy one. They sent back and email within an hour or two saying to just give them my address and they would send one out. I arrived the next day.
Last time I tried something like that with GW - with a miscast piece for the High Elf bolt thrower, I was told that they did not sell that part individually and cannot part out kits. Luckily the store was nice enough to take it back and replace it.

Good thing not everything sold at Walmart is made in China. Nice way to throw a blanket over them though.

If you object to the price, contemplate they are broadly in line with GW's prices. Then consider how much less PP are paying to produce theirs. After that, you might start to feel a little ripped off.

How much less are they paying MDG? PP's paints contain half as much again, cost just over three quarters of the price and both are made in the UK (unless GW's paints are made elsewhere).
PP's paints are made by Coat D'arms just as GW's were before they found a cheaper supplier.

I think MDG was talking about the plastic Jacks. PP has their plastic Jacks made in China. GW's in the UK. I'm willing to bet PP is making more per model than GW is.
Compared to Ral Partha, BOTH companies make a killing on paint.
P3 paints are 3.50 US for 17ml. Partha paints are 1.33 US for 15ml. That's 2.17 more per jar for what amounts to maybe 2-3 more figures worth of paint.

In all seriousness it's difficult to find a direct comparison but the closest I can think of is the Space Marine Dreadnought. The Dreadnought costs five pounds more than a plastic Warjack. Nobody here knows enough about the internal finances of each company to know how much of those prices are profit.
Good find with the Ral Partha paints. I'll keep an eye out for them, especially for commonly used colours.

I like them. They cover as well as P3 paints.
They are also available in 90ml (3oz size) but damn that's a lot of paint.
I just wish there was a US supplier. Ordering direct from them is a pain. Typically takes 10 days to receive my order.

I enjoy PP's games much more than GW's, but I have to agree that players cut PP a lot more slack than they do GW.
PP converts a jack to plastic and hikes the price up by 25%. Fans go "It's totally justified because you get 3 different weapons!"
GW converts a model to plastic with 2 billion extra options and bitz and lowers the price a bit. Fans go "GW is ripping us off plastics should be way cheaper than metals, blargh!"

So.
Am I to read you correctly that GW is now the trendsetter in pricing of all miniatures, for all miniature wargames?
And as for "how much less"... I'll stop you right there and kindly ask you for real numbers. Contemplate on how much fail you just put into that post, and consider that you are the one telling me what I should and shouldn't feel ripped off on.
Are you saying I should ask for a kiss first? I know exactly when I'm getting shafted.
50 dollar plastic kit, as opposed to 1 metal jack for 20 bucks. (Thats all I have to say, right there.)

UK Minimum Wage, where the majority of GW's models are cast? £5.80 per hour. Given a standard 40 hour working week, that's an annual wage in the region of £12,064 which in the current exchange rate is $18819US. (exchange rate taken from here. And according to this Website, the average Chinese Factory worker makes $104US a month, or an annual wage of $1,248US. Would you like that as a percentile? I'm sure you would. So the average Chinese Worker, compared to the MINIMUM (for over 25's) in the UK makes just 6%. So as well as GW's international Chain of shops, and all round larger employee count, I think we can safely state that PP's actual running costs are significantly lower than GW's, no? Grot, care to actually mention which kit is $50 and which 'Jack is $20? Rather than just plucking figures out the air? Or is that too much fail in your post for you to handle?

On that note MSRP for a unit of 5 Metal Exemplar Cinerators is $45.
10 Trenchers is MSRP $50.
Name me a kit of 10 metal modesl from GW that are $50?

According to Amazon; Blood Knights are $90 for 5, that's about £57-58, about the same price as PP cavalry.

Cool cool. Was never sure on that one. Cheers skip.
BTW, I'm not trying to rubbish PP here, just throw a little light on the matter of pricing for those with rather elastic standards when it comes to company comparissons. At the end of the day, it's all about the value you feel you get from a product. I get value from my GW stuff, you might get better value from PP. Each to their own.
