PROJECT “KNEE-JERK IMPULSE / initial thoughts, early February 2010 :

This will be quite different to my previous BLOGs, and all about having fun with what I consider the best GW Plastic Range and an army that nicely compliments my other forces in look, feel and rules.

Fresh from my iPhone notes comes da very initial planum.

As so often, read AFAIK always, my projects start with a vision and creation of the lead agent.

Notes:
Buy and gs cast the old crazy dok as the face, then convert with dread and other kits and some FB monster plastic arms. Full of mechanical bits and chemical stimms, with fungus goo.  Use the cool dread face plate as a hydraulically opened armor and targeting mask.

Buy:
Dread
Killakans
Battlewagon
Bikers
Starter kit orks (who could sell/swap me some??)
Stompa

Sort out and ORKS ONLY BITZ BOX from existing bits stash. Add some left over Twar bits to orkify with rivets. Plasticard as usual x 5.

Have fun!!!

PROJECT IDEOLOGY / 14th of February

So I had a bit more of a think about it... or rather I let my head flow freely around the whole project - the likes and dislikes: Ork typology, Ork Codex, Ork Models, painting, converting, my own “missions” in modeling and half a dozen ideas way too concrete to list here at this point.

I decided I don’t like the ork heads at all. Too big. I see my orks as Uruk-Hai on steroids, with Catachan ideals and Kroot mindset. My mates know my small heads fetish when it comes to modeling, but truly, just look at the gorgeous GW art and the proportions and then the models, and what’s the first “no no”? Exactly! I had earlier done a conversion by combining a plastic Nob and a Ghoul head - with some GS this would be my solution.

I want them to be green, but with dark skin. Truly green, green, green. So much so I decided not to use any other color than shades of green in the army. (with some bone, rotten leather and lemon thrown in). This would create a very distinct force and let me use the “water color” style of the Legion models without any worries or too much accuracy.

And to pop them up, the basing will be deserted hive, with light brick red wash as the main tone.

Playing / getting into the mood wise, I wanted HC, serious and absolutely brutal types, to whom warfare comes naturally, who love it, but who aren’t a joke, who don’t let Grots touch their gear, but eat them raw for a snack. Who use attack squigs for target practice and instead breed fenrisian wolves and warp beasts together for proper hunting dogs. Who aren’t fething daft idiots, they just don’t give a toss about reading or culture other than that of war!

These will be my Black Orks and I welcome you to follow their journey into a full tournament army, by August.

This might even help light the fire under me to pull me away from the motorcycle and back to the hobby desk. Looking forward to seeing your WIPs!

Thanks folks. Fun this will be!!

I've got the paint scheme designed, but I need to find a moment to properly write down the plan and share.

Dante, my man, did you get the Airbrush yet?? I'm placing an order soonish, but would love to hear from a talented modeler like you with first hand experience. I intend to airbrush all the orks and vehicles to their base colors, with similar lighting style as with the legion, then go mad with the trciks learned in the Legion project, but with none of the finesse - these are ORKS!.

Yep, responded at DW.

Can't wait to see what you pull off with it. I think it might be an idea to grab some books on them to familiarise yourself with the cleaning up process etc. I certainly found it beneficial!

What's first on the cards? The big boss man himself to set the tone, or a tester grunt?

Cheers,

WIll you model the Ghoul heads to make them look more like GW's Ork design but smaller or will they look completely different?

Also, will this project be potentially linked to your LEGION and TWAR stuff?

Like that but with GS reshaping I thik.

I DID SOME MODELING!

Yay. While waiting for the dread+kans to build my Kustom Ghazkul, I started with building the foundations of a wicked truk, which is basically a long flatbed with insanely powerful looking engine built at the front and the driver sitting off centre in a cabin, a little like the millenium falcon. With this fine pace you might see pics in a month or so :lol The new ork kits are so awesome as they are, but I don't want mine to look anything like the standard ones, so I guess all of them wil be odd kustom builds.

I need to start shaping up the list and thinking of more ideas for conversions. Though I feel already it will take 3000pts and 3 years to execute the ones I already have.

Gentlemen Migs is like a fine wine. You discuss it wait for it, and when your anticipation is finally maxed out he delivers and it is gooddddddddd.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I have a real dilemma as I dont want to glue at home with the baby in the house, and our apartment being basically one big open space.

So I've been cleaning parts for the first truck and planning things ahead. I need to find a way to do some gluing though...which is hard as I want to be at home as much as possible. However, I've decided to buy a nice antique desk for myself and work, one with enough drawers for all of my hobby goodness so I can glue and paint a bit here and there and hopefully make proper progress.

I bought a whole bunch of MIG pigments and washes and mediums to round up my MIG tricks.
