In that shadow right behind you...

Hello Fellow Dakkites, some of you may of noticed a thread i made in the dakka Discussions fourm. With a small measure of interest I decided to start it. Before posting about questions about the comp please read the rules.

What is is?: MoTM is a monthly entry based showcase of your modelling and painting ability.

What themes are there?: The themes will change from month to month, which will be determined by the previous month's winner. While they can be anything, we will try to keep the crazy ones to just a few, and do our best to make sure that most throughout the year can be used in an actual game. We don't want to make it strictly 100% game usable as that will stifle the creativity of some of our members. Also, we will try and keep them as flexible as possible. We will try and run them from the 1st to the 25th of each month. This will enable the judge (previous winner) to choose the winner and post the next month's theme.

What are the rules?: First of all, you will have to abide by whatever the month's requirement is for that entry. You will have to Pm a wip pic and pic of the completed model befoe the 25th of that month. At least one WIP and one finished photo of your mini to qualify. The Mod who looks after the thread will post the pics at the end of the month of the poll with the names of those to the entries belong to. Near the end of the month, 29th (28th if in Febuary), the winner will be announced. The winner must pic a new theme for the month and send it to the controlling moderator within two days. So it would be a good ideas to get racking your brains early Dakkites . Also, you will not be allowed to enter the month in which you are in charge of the theme.

Can anyone enter?: Of course you can! The more, the merrier, and the greater the fun!

How will I run the next one?: One of the mods will control the mini of the month competion and open the topic for each month in the Painting and Modelling fourm(sub-fourm maybe?) At the end of the month's closing date a poll will be held It will continue like this for the following months. Will be up to the previous month's winner to monitor and Also, you will not be allowed to enter the month in which you are in charge of the theme.

Are there any prizes?: There will be no physical prizes except your pride and ego boosted for a job well done!
So start getting that GS out and gather up your modelling materials as the first ever MoTM will kick off Febuary 2010 Good luck to everyone and we look forward to seeing some great work from all of you.

I will mentor the evnt until a mod can be found. Cheers,Bloodthirster

The theme for this month: Free for All
A nice easy way to start the competion off. This month you post what ever you like, be a ork Trukk, a Elf Spearmen or perhaps a Lizardmen Skink. This month you can paint/convert what you like for the competion.

Here's some WIP pics of my Brother Clawdio(Claudio, biggest GW pun ever )

It's the 19th today, giving a total of 6 days till the contest is over. Can I enter something I already have WIP and just finish it?

I'd love to participate. I'll try and get an entry in for this month, assuming I can get all my hobby stuff shipped to my new place by the end of the month.

A few questions:

  • Does the model have to be GW? Could it be scratch-built?

  • Does the WIP have to be started during the contest period? Could I use a model I started last month, but is not finished?

  • Will there be individual criteria, such as best painted, best converted, or is it going to be just "Best in Show" as voted by our fellow Dakkites?

  • Thanks in advance. Count me in.

    1) It does not have to be GW, and as for stratch bulit models? Let your creativity flow!
2)Yes you have to post a WIP and a Done pic in the time of the contest. As long as there is still some work to do I don't see why you couldn't use it.
3)There will a poll at the end of each month where everyone decides the winner. The winner at the end of the month will PM me his theme at the end of the month for the next contest. Entries have to fit within the criteria of he month however. Eg; Stealthy, Armed To Da Teef, In Motion/Action Pose, Objective Marker

The theme however for each month however must be flexiable enough so that lots of people can enter. Eg of a bad theme: Space Marines, Skaven, Menoth

    Hope that helps. Cheers, BT

Edit: Good to know a lot of people are interestd in this

Sounds cool to watch, even if I don't contribute. Is it judged on modelling or painting? Or both?

Yup, since its going to March I will definitely join in... I assume the voting will anonymous work so theres no bias votes? Also meaning that you shouldnt have a WIP thread on the model giving it away? This will change which model I use for the first competition!

Is there going to be pictures posted of all the entries or just the winner? I'd love to see what everyone entered, weather it won or not. I'm way too unmotivated currently and seeing other people's work would help.

Alright then everone PM their WIP pics to me and their final pics when there done. I'' post the WIP when i recieve them to keep the thread lively and have people oooh and ahhh. To save bias I will not vote this month until a new winner can be found. You will then PM your pics to the winner of that month.

@At Rossko all pics will be posted as where going to have a poll at the end of the month.

This is a great way of getting people to show off their work without the thought of that they are not good enough to compete since the pro-modellers are in it for the prizes.

Honestly, I would highly suggest not moving the "power" to the person who wins. It is an almost garenteed chance that the MoTM will not last long as who ever wins probably wont want to take charge.

-Make one person be in charge (try to find a mod)
-Make the the work completely anonymous till he/she has won and your showing different angles and more pictures of their work
-Keep the pictures at one per person for the sake of confusion/sanity!
-Models entered in the competition probably shouldnt be shown elsewhere on the forum...

I would say those are a few points that might improve the "layout" of this idea... Id try and follow alot of the rules used for the Dakka Painting Challanges... It would keep this very organised... If you can find a Mod to actually help organize this and make it a sticky or something it would be totally helpful and awsome!
