Ok, my test Fire Warrior is finished. I really like the color scheme. I think ill make the following changes:

1. Solarious Orange basecoat with Blazing Orange Highlights rather than yellow

2. Im going to base with an ash effect. These Tau come from a Volcanic Planet

I like the paint scheme a lot, my only problem is the yellow over orange highlights are a tad too extreme IMO. Great job overall!

I offer commission painting. See the Painting Service list in the Dakka Swap Shop for details.

I agree 100%

I am going to pick up a pot of Mecharius Orange after work. That will be the armor basecoat, with blazing orange highlights!

Thats funny because I was going to say how much I thought the yellow really made everything stand out. Maybe you could a do a secondary highlight, just on the VERY edges that is slightly dulled, maybe 2:1 Yellow: Orange.
Just a though

sweet paint scheme! when i was doing tau, i was going to do the same, but it seemed a little to halloweney.... and yes, i agree, get rid of the yellow highlights...
And as for tips: The emblem on the big shoulder pad is slightly messy....
For lava bases, if you don't alreayd know, do this, gore red, blood red, fiery orange, sunburst yellow, then skull white. Do that color order, with smaller and smaller lines.... Also, make some rocks out of foam core (leave both the paper sides on) then put your mini on that so that they are above the lava...

Here is the second go-round. Props to Deathpod for the Lens scheme. Made the following changes:

1. Highlighted the Blazing Orange with a 1:1 mix of Blazing Orange and Skull White.

2. Added a heavier drybrush to the cloth under the armor.

3. Highlighted the black with Adeptus Battlegrey.

Comments?

Here is model #1 (right) and #2 (left)

I don't know if you can see the lens, but it looks really good in person.

Just realized I forgot the gun markings.

At the moment, the following are in the works:

1. Gun Drones

2. Tau Squad Leader

3. Trying to come up with a better color scheme for the helmets. Im not sure I like the lines. Might just put the big squad markings in the helm, near the antenna.

I decided to work on the gun drones. I'm extremely happy with how this scheme is turning out. Im getting the hang of the highlights, but it is tough to get the mix on point every single time. Comments welcome.....

With painting slow going these days because I have been enjoying my 4 month old, here is my Shas'ui. I really love this paint scheme thus far and think he came out pretty wicked.

It's definitely not easy to paint. Tough to get full coverage. I have to be quick and accurate to get it to come out just right.

Thats a good bold scheme. My only concern is that some of the white and orange markings look a little thick. Have you tried building the colour up over several layers?

The highlighted armour plates look really good in my view.
