I think Farimir looks kind of weird. The knights (dol-amroth and morgul) are very nice. I wonder if they will come out with prince imrahil.

Is it just me, or has that Faramir been piling on the pounds? Clearly Saurons new strategy to corrupt Middle-Earth is to open up a branch of Macky D's in Minas Tirith, and a drive-thru in Osgiliath.

So, when are they changing the name of the LoTR game to Black Cloaked Things vs. Blue Cloaked Things ?

They've got a bout 50 different versions of Ringwraiths in some form or another. Not to mention the 10 a piece for each character. Waiting for "Aragorn on the pot" to be released.

And, the Ruins of Osgiliath of rather nice looking - now that they're available separately...

I like the sculps, they are pretty cool, and those ruins may be useful.

Imrahil has been out for awhile. If you're wondering about him coming out in plastic, I doubt it - none of the heroes are in plastic.

I think it all looks pretty nice, although Faramir does look a little chunky in the face. I'm willing to overlook that. I plan to get the Swan Knights and Faramir and maybe even the rangers command and/or ruins. Maybe add some pikemen to my force too.

My first thought was "Wait, what?" After all, Morgul Knights have been out for a year.

Then I reailzed that these are plastic. And I was consumed with a fit of giggles. I am very happy to see plastic MK & plastic Swan Knights, but I can't wait to show this to my friend who has collected massive units of both. In the expensive, heavy, easily broken metal version. Ha!

And I've bought nearly all of said Black Cloaked Things, for nefarious square-basing purposes. Pity the scale is a bit wee or I'd consider the MK knights for my long-avoided tizz cavalry ...

If you knew about LotR and GW you would know that they first released the all black cloaked ones when the fellowship of the ring came out. They have then made foot and mounted versions of each individual ringwraith named in the books. Theres only 18 foot versions and 18 mounted.

I like all of these new figures and will probably pick a few up!

This is awesome. Morgul knights can be used as (IMO) better looking black knights or even MUCH cheaper bloodknights in WHFB. I'll probably use them as black, blood knights are kind of bad.

If the plastic lances are as fiddly as plastic spears and pikes, they'll be easily broken too.

One of the few cases where the plastics are better than the metals is the plastic morgul knights.

Very nice.

As for lances easily breaking, I haven't had the problem yet with my spearmen. But if people do find an issue with it then plastic glue or brass rods for the truly paranoid are always an option.

And if you knew about LotR, you'd know that only the Witch King and Khamul were ever actually named in any of Tolkien's books. The rest of the names are made up by GW.

"Only two of the Nazgûl are named or identified individually in Tolkien's works. Their leader was the Witch-king of Angmar, and his second in command was named Khamûl, the "black Easterling" or the "shadow of the East". Tolkien stated that three of them were great Númenórean lords; in his notes for translators, Tolkien speculates that the Witch-king was of Númenórean origin. Khamûl was a lord of the Easterlings, and the only Nazgûl whose name is given."

I'm not going to bother to actually, you know, count or anything, but I suspect there may be more than 18 total Ringwraith sculpts.
There are the Nine, mounted, and the Nine on foot, from the boxed sets. There are the ringwraiths available individually in blisters, which may or may not be identical to the ones from the boxed sets. There are the five from the Weathertop boxed set, which I am fairly sure are not identical to the boxed-set versions. There are of course the new 'named' ones, which have identifying details lacking from the generic ones. There is the metal fell-beast wraith, the metal fell-beast Witch King, and the new plastic fell-beast wraith/different wraith/Witch King.

I wonder if the sculptors really like the opportunity to make different versions of the various heroes, or if they hate that they have to.

"Aragorn? Again? Really? Only this time with less stubble and dressed in his Rivendell clothes... and we expect someone to buy this?"

LOL!

I really like the ruins now that I've noticed them. & they seem a real bargain - only £15 - compare to the other LoTR scenery pack which is £12 and conatins about 5 (small)pieces.
Will def be picking up a set of the ruins too, along side my hobbit dark knights for my VC army.

True. But plastic lance can be more easily repaired than thin bendy pewter ones. Or indeed replaced with thin brass rod, the better to impale the cheeto-stained paws of the impolite figure-snatcher.

Well since I do possess all of the nazgul released so far I can chip in.

9 unique pose generic ringwraiths on foot. The ones from weathertop are the same as the nine boxed set. Then 5 generic nazgul mounted (1 witchking and 4 generic in different poses).
1 of each of the named nazgul, on foot and mounted. Then witchking on fell beast and generic mounted on fellbeast. Double that last one for the new plastics.

In total, we have 36 unique nazgul sculpts.

That said, while I used to think that a dozen different sculpts for characters was dumb, and to a certain extent I can still see that, it is nice to have variety. I would hate to have to use the aragorn from the fellowship boxed set as the only aragorn, etc. Of course you only need one, but you can pick the one you like instead of having to make due with a sculpt you might think is silly.

The Dwimmerlaik is the best thing about this release for me-we've finally got all the models for the "named" Nazgul.

Now I can begin collecting that all-ringwraith force I've always dreamed about....

But in a game where you can dismount, you need multiple sculpts.

Plus if you play the movies, you would ignore the "named" wraiths.

Are there really 4 different mounted? I got screwed.

My box of 3 had only 2 different riders.

I would like to have one of each, just for the scenario play they allow.

A lot of the multiple sculpts do represent characters in different 'stages' of their career. And some were made just to help some either Twin Towers or Return of the King boxset. "Ooo, a new Aragorn, but with a bow!" Frankly, Aragorn is the worst, and that's because he appeared in a lot of the scenario boxsets (Amon Hen, Fellowship, Weathertop, Warg Attack, the Rohan heroes boxset, etc.). If GW had just used the same sculpt over and over, people would have ripped them for it, and would have felt ripped off (hey, I don't need 5 of the same Aragorn!).

Personally, I think some of the newer sculpts are improvements. Like I said, the new Faramir looks a little chunky, but I think the model is much better than his previous version in heavy armor. I really like Faramir in ranger garb, still think they got that one right.

I'm liking the idea of using the Morgul Knights for VC Black Knights - how is the scale compare, as well as are they able to be ranked up? I've got zero experience with LOTR models and haven't seen any to compare.

They are slightly smaller. They are made to fit on 40mm bases instead of 50mm after all. But that might be better for ranking issues. I have a heck of a time squishing my brets together sometimes...
