Well, my girlfriend thinks these "lil war dudes" that I paint are pretty cute. In fact, she painted one herself and did a pretty decent job of it. Our anniversary is comming up and I figred I'd make something for her instead of buying the thyical flowers and candy.


So what better than to make a 40k diorama? lol

I figured that I would try my best to make us into 40k pieces. For me, I went with Gunny Harker, with some gs work to his hair and chest to come. For her, I'm using one of the Dark Eldar slaves that havs been modestly covered in gs(no sexy pose, sorry guys ). This worked perfectly because the hight difference between the models and us in real life seems perfect.


That sounded too boring, so I decieded to mount us on a battlefield display board. I even had the idea of having tyranids rush the models as "I" defended both of "us" with "my" heavy bolter


This should be fun. I have never done a display board or painted bugs before. Here's some wip pics.




Thats a pic of one of the nids comming after us. I really like the use of feathering and blending on the model, especially since its my first time doing feathering.

Lol +1. I get the "WTF face" often. Go for both, or at least the flowers if not the chocolate.

I think its kinda sweet.

Any chump can go buy flowers or chocolate-just most forget.

But not many will make something, the time and effort to me says alot more than bought stuff would.

Having said that though- Im a nerd and like nerdly things

Right.... if my wife was like you and liked nerdly things we'd have a lot less arguments....

Watch out that she doesn't read this, it's a present after all.

my wife asked for a vacuum cleaner for Christmas three years ago! I was NOT stupid enough to fall for that. She got the vacuum cleaner she wanted the next day and four Christmas presents for the holiday- and I got to stay married and have a great life. She supports me and my hobbies and works with me to build a life together.
All because i was not dumb enough to buy her a household product as a Christmas present. Happy wife- happy life!!!

So just make sure that you get her something that SHE wants - candy, flowers, whatever- AND the nice gift of the diorama! Girls do like personal gifts but you want to hedge your bets!

and women love compromise.... which is why im still single...

BTW im insanely nosy so youre gonna have to post the reaction to your gift(s) simply because i am of the mind that you cannot post something like this and not tell us the outcome. Its akin to a blog that ends in mid sentence.

I appreciate your input about getting her flowers too, but I've kinda killed that between all the other holidays. Plus, I usually ordered some from USAA, this time I paid $60 for 4 freaking flowers, 10 choclates and a tiny bear. The picture had probaly 10 flowers, so I was definately misled.

Funny story that happened last night: I got off late last night and decieded to work on this project some more. Well, I was trying to finish the nids when I spilled my old jar of red ink. at first i thought I had cut myself since i was sleepy, then got angry because I wasted nearly 2/3 of the OOP ink.

No pics of updates yet, but I've managed to finish the hair and cammies on gunny Hark. i gave her model a bit longer hair too. I definately feel as if these models have my best sculting work soo far. Try and get some pics later.

UPDATE: Textured spackle aded to base, nids finished and harker(me) are readu for primer.

This +1. I had the exact same thing. She wants a vacuum for christmas!?!? Appliances aren't gifts... And, really, neither are things for your hobby. There's a classic Simpsons episode about this, where Homer buys Marge a bowling ball... You're always better off getting her something that she's interested in than something you are.

I'd agree on you there. But she's a little wierd. For her birthday she asked for gituar picks and notebooks, which is really cheap. She did the same thing for christmas, so I try to find little ways to supprise her.

I've been actually thinking about this exact same idea, minus the 'nids but didn't because i wasn't sure what she would like better. I ended up doing something similar for my brother though making a diorama of two converted mini's made to look like us each with special features repective to our favorite armies. Great job on the conversions and creativity!

I always wanted to make myself into a 40k model. First I wanted to make myself into a space marine but then they made Gunny Harker. He's bigger than his peers but not too big like an ultra smurf, and he's actually got tons of room for GS.

Unfourtunately, GW doesen't really have a great selection for female human models. Most either have rediclious hair or rediclious ammounts of bewbage.

Here's some pics of what I have soo far. I think its really comming along nicely! The ruined building is finished, as are the nids. All that needs to be done is harker, bases, and the board itself.

Haha I sorta am, not before I pick them up and play around with them in front of her first, drives her nuts. Most of the time, I let them back outside for a bird to eat or whatever his fate is.

It soon will be, actually. Theyre basically rebuilding my neighborhood.
