I played against a Chaos Daemon army and I was getting assaulted the same turn they came in Via Deep Strike. I cannot find any rule that allows this. His response was "Of course it is a rule that Daemons may assault the same turn they Deep Strike. What is the point of a mostly H2H army type that cant do anything its first turn." While what he said makes sense.... RAW backup to his logic is eluding me.

Since I do not own the Codex to check for myself I turn to you. And a page number would not go amiss if he speaks true. Ill look it up in his book next time.

Really? Lesser Daemons from codex CSM can do it? Wheres it say that? I actually have that book.

In the rules for Daemon Summoning in the CSM codex...

I've done that before, Lesser Daemon Spam vs. a Daemon list....was funny as my lesser Daemons would always get the drop on the daemons and just mow through them with weight of attacks.

Losing out on charging is a big balancer to the Daemons... it encourages 'some' ranged elements.

Yeah watch out for his ranged guys but other than that he lands and and stands there with big targets on his guys that say shoot me now. Also a tactics that has been annoying for me( I play daemons) is people who start their entire army in reserve... it means that i have to place my enite daemon army down in the center of the table and slugg my way to his guys on whichever side of the table he chooses to bring them in from. with my guys getting shot up the whole time.

Yup... gotta love fast reserve lists.
I once had a 2000 point Tau list that was:
2 Devilfish, 2 hammerhads, 15 piranha...daemon players decline a game.

yeah takes away a daemons advantage if you deepstrike onto the board and there are no units to surround and then your opponent brings his models on all the way acrossed the board with long range weapons. i only won my last game against eldar becuase when he did that i had 2 daemon princes (with wings) a bloodthirster (also has wings) and a squad of flamers (Jump infantry) on the board and still had my soul grinder, a squad of pink horrors, and another squad of flamers in reserve (I rolled bad, but im glad i did.)

General Tip: if something goes against the written rules, always ask where in the codex it is allowed. This will avoid most cheating and mistakes.

LOL you were lied to. That or he sincerely believes that Chaos Daemons can do that, which is unlikely. Either way they cant assault via deepstrike.

Chaos Daemons probably should have a few select special units that can assault via deepstrike, or perhaps if they enter via icon they could.

no they cant assault after deepstrike but there are other things you can do... many of the daemons have an ability called boon of mutation. you roll to hit and if you do then the model has to make a toughness check.(many shooting armies have low toughness) if they fail then they are turned into a chaos spawn on your side who did NOT deepstrike and there for CAN assault that turn. He has 3 wounds and a 5 toughness and is a daemon so he has eternal warrior. If he can survive the combat then he will lock the unit down and they cant shoot next turn. this is just my favorite method.

OP - didn't he have his codex? Any time a rule seems to be too good ask to see it.

And don't play anyone that doesn't have their codex!

To my knowledge there are very few instances where a unit can assault out of deepstrike, lesser daemons as mentioned above, and Vulchaboyz <stormboyz with zagstruk>

Marbo can Assault after Deep Striking, even though he can't Deep Strike.

He's special...though he has no Helmet. Don't let him throw around anything, he might just throw it so it scatters back onto himself

Wow, next time make him show you the rule. In some cases I give stuff up on codexes I don't know, but that is a biggie.

Several of my friends believe this works, do you guys happen to know where the idea came from that chaos daemons could assault after deep striking?


I want to tell my friends this but until I know where the rumor that they could do this came from they will insist they are right and get defensive.

If you read the whole thread ull notice that the lesse demons i codex Chaos Spazz Mahreenz can assault and thus create this whole situation.
If your friend use codex deamons however they must follow the normal rules for deep striking.

I read that part but I figured there had to be something more to it than that, that is a terribly weak argument for them being able to. I would have expected more for a lie that seems so wide spread than just a there codex can do it so mine should be able to.

Chaos daemons in the current and old Chaos Space Marines codices can and could assault after being summoned. The codex of all-daemons can’t, and this is part of their balance. Their units would all be considerably more expensive if they could. They’re priced with the expectation that your opponent is going to get a turn of shooting at them before they get to assault.

Dreadclaws do NOT arrive by Deepstrike, they land and scattrer D6, very different
