How come these advanced warriors who apparently can use camo cloaks as scouts don't use some form of active camo, or at least painted on camouflage, to hide them.

Stupidity? or Pride?

Space Marines don't need camo. They're eight-foot-tall killing machines wearing light tank armour and carrying .75 caliber machineguns that fire high-explosive bullets. They can survive wounds that would kill a normal human three times over and are each the equivalent of a dozen trained soldiers in combat.

When you're a Space Marine, you don't need camo at all.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I'm going to go with raging pride that spawns stupidity. Remember, these are the assclowns who refuse to fall back, even if it would confer a tactical advantage.

They are already screaming "FOR THE EMPEROR!" so i dont think camo would help.
Seriously though its a pride thing.

The imperial fist motto is something to the effect that they wear bright yellow so their enemies know who they are, and are terrified. So yeah, a pride thing.

Part of the justification is that they are terror weapons and assault troops. The type of battle they are usually involved in is against human targets, and they want to be seen. They drop in from low orbit firing automatic RPG launchers, the Emperors angels of death. It is a psychological tactic. Often times the very sight of them is enough to cow the populations they are attacking.

I would actually expect that they can and do use camo when appropriate, but usually they find the psychological advantages of being visible outweigh the risks.

Actually...

The heirs of Roboute Guillman do fall back when it's prudent to do so. See the rule called "Combat Tactics" for the background tie-in. It's the sons of Dorn that are the idiots, refusing to give ground when doing so would be best.

Moreover plenty of Space Marines use camo, going back as far as the Rogue Trader days. Indeed, the original article about the Badab War showed all the different colour schemes that got used in the war, with considerable use of camo on both sides.

Being Ultrasmurfs they never have to retreat, so it's fairly pointless

It isn't army camo , but it is camouflage. As nurglitch said there are tons of similar paint schemes on space marines (on both sides).

Marines do use camo, as do most units. Think of the eavy metal models as "class A" uniforms. just because most people do not paint their models with camo, does not mean that they don't wear it in the fluff. no other army wears camo in studio armies, why should marines be held to a different standard.

In addition, marines generally don't need camo, most attacks are launched from quick armored spearhead or drop pod assault. in these assaults, marines are in the enemy's position before they can react, so camo is relatively unnecessary, once more, the vibrant colors of marines can be used to strike fear into enemy troops.

You know, hooligans support their teams by showing their colours.

SM Scouts are the only ones that need camo because they do the jobs that require it.

When a weapon causes instant death that is when you need cover.

Space Marines are an entry level army
often played by kids who are also learning (hopefully) to paint the figures rather than have them running grey plastic nakee over the table-top.

Bright blue is good cos it is easier to paint

painting camo is for later when you (hopefully) get really good at painting minis.
By the time you are adept at painting tiny dots on polychromatic schemes, then your eyes are knacked from all the squinting.

So you think it! I'll just paint the little fekkers bright blue!

Another reason they dont wear como is cause it dosen't look good. Has anyone seen a good camo marine?

Raven Guard are probably the closest the official chapters get to stealth

If you want to do something with camo, I guess making them a RG sucessor would explain it properly if you care about background.

Back in 1st edition alot of them did have camo. However, Space Marines are space knights, and so have heraldry instead of camo.
