Yes, it is against board rules to post it here.
You are NOT allowed to post templates of ANY of GWs IP here. Doing so is a violation of the terms you agreed to when you registered.

Best to take them down, before the mods see them and do it anyway.

You can post links to where you found such templates, though, right? Such as what one might find if he looks for "paperhammer" in google.

My FLGS doesn't allow scraps of trash on their tables...

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

That's why you make them out of plasticard. Then it is a veritible scratch-build, which was still legal last time I checked.

If your FLGS doesn't allow scratch builds, then it is probably a GW store trying to force you to spend money. You should play elsewhere.

You can get them from several Yahoo groups.
BWC is one of several groups.

You will have to have a yahoo acct, though, but most are easy to join.

I had it built and painted in just 2 days, so I wont be sad if you put it down Not even sure if Im ever going to use it (after all, the GW Vindi is one of my fav tanks as it is)

Games workshop themselves used to release templates & designs & encourage people to scratchbuild vehicles. The golden bolter society has an enormous papercraft collection & I encourage people to find it if just for the superheavies such as warhounds, Thunderhawks etc. It's not illegal to make, own or share these templates, no matter what GW says.

I have every template I could find & have put the Rhino & chimera to use, with plans for the Landraider, thunderhawk & possibly warhound. It's not like I'm denying forgeworld a sale, I'd never buy a £400 thunderhawk or £700 Titan.

No, looks good. Besides, for those of us "older" types, GW used to encourage scratchbuilt and kit bashed models. Way back when, there used to be an IG Grav tank made from an empty deodorant container.

How did you do the treads? I can visualize pretty much all of the other parts (or good substitutes for them), but treads always throw me.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Wait, its illegal to build a tank out of paper but not out of plastic, which is more similar and much better?

hmmmmm kaaaaay......

lol

Fek that. If as Fox Pheonix said, you spend alot of time on it and it looks good, then thats grand as far as I'd imagine but obviously you couldnt use them in a GW store cuz they want you to buy theyres.

Last game I played, the other guy was using water bottles as drop pods! lol. Im someone who likes full painted armies on the board tho, so I wasnt really happy about it, but Im not gonna reject a game just for that as its all just a bit of fun anyway.

Full on, Full on!

Oh yes, the treads was a stroke of luck. I looted a holder for a bicyckle lock. To make the holder stable at smaller bicykle frames it had a bunch of thick rubber bands that looked just like treads. (this lucky find was actually the main reason I decided to make a tank

It's not illegal to share the files around. If it was, GW would have had the files in those yahoo groups removed already.

You just can't POST the link or files here.
This is the bit that is against board rules.

The mods and admin really don't want to acquire the ire of the GW legal dog-pack - which would mean that the board goes away and then you'd not have this site to whine about stuff, neh?

I'm one of those players who had to build stuff from templates in WD in the early days (Vindicator, Whirlwind, Spartan, the "grav attack" deodorant flask, Baneblade). Hell, I still use most of them.

Well said. You are only responsible for your own army, if the opponent want to use pine cones and cleenex boxes its fine IMHO, just nothing I would do.

Here's a pic of something that I am working on using paper templates as a guide:

Interesting stuff, I like having my clunky plastic, but I can understand the appeal for wanting to try before you buy. Hopefully you will buy when you find what you like - not saying paper is dreadful to look at, but I wouldn't want to play against it.

In that case, if you google 'golden bolter society', go to their home page, find the 'articles' link and click on 'paperhammer 40k' there's a nice long article. The bottom of the article is a downloads: templates section.

I didn't link it :v

Edit: I build something in paper & card, If I like it I make any changes I want & transfer the templates to plasticard.

Ask and you shall receive!

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Hahaha!

Im fully up for that sort of thing. As long as it looks like what its supposed to be. Dont know about a pineapple titan like! lol.

So why is it ok to forge something in plastic but not in cardboard. is it cuz your still buying the plasticard or what?

Pure snobbery.

Although, if you are putting the effort in to buy plastic, you are probably going to do a better job that someone just cutting up a cereal box and some toilet roll tubes.
