And it's not Michael Palin either. It's Sarah's 19 year old daughter Bristol, who with her 1 year old in tow, is hitting the speaking circiut. As if her mom wasn't bad enough, at least she had some jobs to talk about. But, what does Bristol have to talk about? Team Edward vs Team Jacob? Swollen ankles? This is worse cronism than the Bush family. And Bristol might actually be less qualified than George the Younger.

JUNEAU, Alaska – Bristol Palin is hitting the speakers' circuit and will command between $15,000 and $30,000 for each appearance, Palin family attorney Thomas Van Flein said Monday.

Probably to talk about being a single mom and all the 2008 fun. Who knows? Who cares? I sure don't.

On the positive she's almost as qualified as your average community organizer...

Yeah, spitting out a baby and having corrupt idiot parents are great qualifications. Being a single mother must be so hard when your family has MILLIONS OF GOD DAMN DOLLARS. She has no important or relevant life experiences to share at her age and with that background.

He said he believes she's interested in expanding her message beyond teen pregnancy to include her experiences on the campaign trail and in the media spotlight; her parenting approach; and her outlook on life.

Her message beyond teen pregnancy. Yes, her message of look how hot I am, it's ok to have kids as a teen. Her many experiences on the campaign trail that she has never been on and her parenting approach of having millions of dollars and no job. All those important messages.

Holy crap !

Well... doubt she's got anything of interest to say really, but good luck to her I suppose.

Nice work if you can get it.

Hey, if she can get people shelling out that kinda dough for the priviledge of hearing her talk - good for her. I don't get it though. Wonder how long it'll take Larry Flynt to make a porn parody about her..........

Normal for, you know, people who are successful in their field. Look at Tony Blair, he's a Middle East Peace envoy and earns millions from public speaking, and when was the last time the Middle east was on ..the...news....hmm....

..bugger.

I swear there must have been 1 day at school which I missed which covered how to get all these jobs. That would be the day we all skived off to buy and play "Mighty Empires" ( old skool first edition FTW of course) no doubt. I regret nothing ! NOTHING I TELL THEE !

Well, I guess you have to be important to begin with

Like I said, Neil Gaiman made a post awhile back about why his speaking fees are "so high" as someone who tried to get him to speak at their high school graduation was complaining about.

It was interesting, because he stated he'd rather be speaking than writing--which is why his agent bumps the price up when he has deadlines

Or it could just be that he's greedy and is perfectly willing to charge exorbitant prices because he knows people will pay. He's paid too much but he isn't even close to being in the same league of graft and manipulation as the palin family. Exploiting the stupid is a multimillion dollar job and her family collects in spades.

Nope, those prices are about normal for speakers who don't already have a contract with the events for speaking.

Jim Butcher, author of "The Dresden Files", costs roughly $50,000 for a 3 hour speaking presentation.

Yes, and I believe that the industry standard is far too high, but thats more of my issue with the capitalism of fame vs the capitalism of worth.

The difference is that in both cases, those costs are for them being asked to do presentations that they don't want to.

Writers don't want to, as far as I know, have to appear at dozens of events a year taking away from their work.

In cases like DragonCon or Comicon they have no issues appearing for free on panels, etc.

Yes, the conventions where their presence will help sell the books they will be hawking at those same panels. Yes, I'm sure they are quite willing to get mass media attention to advertise without having to be payed for it. Shocking.

It's unfortunate that the wargaming audience is too poor to pay your prices! Too much money spent on warhams.

... yeah....

..hmm... although.... she's single.... a single mother in fact...... scientifically proven that Septic women go mad for a the refined tones of a British Man ( Scouse and BRummy accents aside I'll grant you).....

... and $15-30K buys a lot of Warhams even with their price rises...

And what makes it even more perfect is we already know she has low standards when it comes to men already ! RESULT !

THis time next year I could be being inducted into the "Skull and Bones" society and doing.. doing.. whatever it is they do over Geronimo's skull there !

.. mind you.. that would be a lot of effort. *sighs, opens another beer*

.. YOu had Spokey Dokeys over the pond as well then. Good, good.
