Subject: Movies at 2x Speed: Am I mad or am I onto something?

So, recently I have been watching all my dvds on my PC at 2x speed.
To do this, I use VLC, as it supports true time streaching (Increasing the speed without messing up the pitch) and run it at 2x speed.
For some reason, I have found this to drastically improve my enjoyment of movies.
Now, I know that this is nothing new, and people have been doing this with audiobooks since, like, forever, but I still feel special!
So, just thought I'd share that, and heartily recommend it. Of particular note are the original 3 Star Wars. At 1x speed (at least for me) they are unwatchable borefests, but at 2x speed, they become a lot easier to watch!

Something you must do:
If you have heard of the final fantasy series (duh), you will know it is about girly-haired men trying to kill each other. You may also know that a movie was made (Final Fantasy VII; Advent Children) that was done entirely in CGI and had an amazing Cloud VS Sephiroth fight scene. Being superhuman, thebattle is incredibly cool, and happens at lightning speed. You can probably get it off youtube.
Watch it as 2x speed, and float to a whole new level of awesome.

Avatar or the Lord of The Rings are a good choice, as are the first 3 Star Wars as I said.

I think he means porn. Same repeating scenes, no dialogue I suppose there is a logic to speeding it up.

Psssh. The first three Star Wars are pretty rubbish (though the prequels are even worse).

Thats because you are not watching it Time Stretched. You are watching it sped up. Speeding it up is what causes the pitch distortions. VLC supports true Time Streaching, and it does not distort the pitch.

Yeah LoTR is a fun watch. Watched all 3 last night (in fact I has just finished watching RotK when I made the post) and it's great to be able to watch it in 5 hours instead of 10.

Haha, that's awesome.
I have a prom at 17:00, but if I start watching Fellowship right now (it's 10:00), I should be done by around 15:00. Gives me enough time to shower and so on.
Yeah, I'm definitely doing this. Thank you for enlightening me.

The Dread Evil Lord Varlak
|
I remember a story I once heard, a local radio station had an author in for a reading of his new book. This was an AM talk radio station, affiliated with an FM station, so it was set up with the same gear, and the same design principles. The author would pause whenever a pause was required, to let people consider what he’d just read. The pause was generally for a couple of seconds.
When the author paused for more than three seconds, these alarms would start setting off throughout the station, because obviously there must be some technical error in the station if there was three seconds of silence. It had never occurred to anyone that three seconds of silence could be alright, maybe even a good thing. No, you need talktalktalkmusicmusicmusictalkmusicmusic.
That’s pretty much everything that’s wrong with FM radio, and a lot of AM radio as well. The point extends to other topics. There’s this idea there has to be constant stimulation, if something isn’t happening right now then things are boring.
Personally, I think the pacing of the original Star Wars films is very good. The time is spent building the setting and developing characters, and the length of time itself is really important in that. I don’t really want to watch anything at twice speed. Transformers II felt like it was at twice speed, with everything flying past spectacularly and just a little too fast for me to figure out what was going on. I don’t really want to repeat that experience.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
