Hi Everyone,

With the Nightspinner coming out June 6th, and the WD calling it official, will it be allowed at Ard Boyz? Do you think it should or should not be if you don't know?

Hahaha, this is a joke, right?

Why would you bring that thing to a list-making competition?

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

Really Fear? Do you have to instigate? He asked a simple question. There is no reason to make fun of him if he wants to take it. Not everyone that goes to these events is going to optimize their lists.

Look I'm sorry If I offended you, but it came across my mind in the fact that it could be out there and I wanted to be informed as to what I might be going into.

I'd rather be informed than arrogantly ignorant.

All I asked in my original post was if it was going to be legal or not. Never once did I say I was going to take it.

The main reason I asked the question was to have some information. The release for the model is the weekend before Ard Boyz. I'd rather know if my opponents are thinking about bringing one and why. I myself don't have the $$$ for one and Like my 3 Fire Prism better.

I don't know either. That's what I am trying to find out. Personally I think it's too close to the Ard Boyz Semis to make it legal since the WD just came out a few days ago.

Its not too bad on the table top. I thought there was some sort of 30 day wait after new models are implemented or something. Isnt that what it is to allow a codex to become legal in tournies. Dont know if thats how this works or not, this is the first WD article that is official since Ive started playing.

Go. Away.

Back on topic, it is going to be legal at the semi-finals near me, I wouldn't imagine a different ruling.

Depends on the wording of the rules packet. IIRC, it says only that the codices may be used. Since it is not in a codex, per se, I imagine that you're SOL.

Wouldn't surprise me, though, if GW includes a "Nightspinners are OK" statement with the Semifinals scenarios.

They have to make a profit somehow!

The only thing dumber than actually taking a Night Spinner would be someone telling you you can't....

Very True.

At the same time it isn't a bad tool to use against the termagaunt spam and the Kan walls out there. So there is validity in those who want to field them. Especially since the rule for the Nightspinner is that they only have to hit to make the unit roll for difficult and dangerous terrain.

It would be able to slow down a leaf blowerlist or any suitable mech lists. It'll be easy to hit with a 5" Large Blast Marker.

Why all the hate for the nightspinner? I can see alot of tactical implications were it is great, even without an AP it is a nightmare for orks. If you have any kind of tactical mind what so ever you can see the greatness of the diff/dangerous terrain rule. I dont think it is a bad tank.

There are two problems with the Nightspinner:

1) It's competing for a HS choice.

2) Eldar have plenty of other ways to kill soft targets.

Great looking model to paint up tho!

But yeah, it should be fast attack

These are the main reason I am not including one in my List, but am curious to see if it will be legal. If it is then it is going to be high on target priority. With as bad as my dice can turn on me, I can ill afford to roll multiple Dangerous Terrain tests as is, let alone more.

The real problem is that for the exact same cost you can have a Fire Prism, which while only S5, has an AP value and can also fire in an anti-tank mode. Like 90% of the rest of the Eldar book, it is a redundant and inferior option to other things in the same slot.

Taking a Night Spinner is definitely not a bad idea. It has tactical abilities and it's brand new so people will be caught off guard a bit. Against horde especially it can be a nasty surprise.

The AP is not the case. The benefit is the special rule and TL with jsut one

Hmmm, a 1 in six chance to immobilized a Land Raider, Russ or Monolith sounds good to me. (which is better odds than a lascannon shot)
1 in 6 chance to wound a Nurgle demon prince
1 in 6 to wound Plague Marines (per marine in the unit & I don't think they get FNP as dangerous always ignores armor saves)
1 in 6 to wound a Wraith Lord
2x (1 in 6) to wound Shield-O & company if the jump-shoot-jump per model

No armor saves for dangerous terrain checks.
It's a damn fine way of causing wounds to hard units, especially large hard units and vehicle squadrons.

Remember also: If while falling back (which is a move) the unit suffers 25% casualties.
It will automatically fail morale & fall back again at the end of the movement phase.

Yeah, this unit COMPETES for a heavy slot. It's only a frustrating decision because the unit is good.
It is accurate. It attacks over a period of turns at LONG range.
It is fantastic. My Necrons are sad.

I really hope it is "Legal".

Well it says 'official" in the white dwarf.. but yeah its competing against the fire prism which is the issue.

I cant see why people are considering nightspinners vs fireprisms when you have war walkers in heavy support. They eclipse both

Everybody knows the best Eldar heavy support option is the Dark Reaper. Duh.

I wish I had a million hours, so I could spend my time hunting the internet to make fun of people for taking units I think are dumb.

Come to the states and I'll play you with all of those in my army. I Don't have a problem winning if I include any of those. Dark Reapers will most likely be in my round 2 'ard boys list, took Warp spiders and came in first in round 1. I am not buying the model but would ceratainly take one if I already had it. Slowing things down is often extremely important for Eldar armies due to short range on some of the best shooting troops.

Anyway back on topic, I would check with your TO, it has often been that rules have had to have been available for 30 days, but this is not addressed in the 'Ard Boyz rules set. Then you can plan accordingly, I do think that the likelyhood of them showing up is probably low.

Dang it fearspect. Now people are starting to take your sarcasm as quality list building advice.

Also, Stelek told me it was bad so it must be.

OK.

This thread is still generating a LOT of MOD ALERTS.

While they are appreciated, it should now be noted that the issues in here have been dealt with.

If you're upset about a message in this thread BEFORE this post here, it has been taken care of.

Going forward, please only report posts AFTER this one, if you feel they need to be reported, of course.

Hopefully that makes sense...
