I just got my chaplain painted and suddently felt the urge to show it to somebody (and get rid of my topic-starting virginity at the same time).

It's not up to the usual standard posted on dakka but as it is the best paintjob I have ever managed to do I am quite pleased with it. It would also be nice to get some criticsm (be it good or bad).
Sorry for the bad photo, I only have my crappy phone camera atm.

Hopefully the picture shows up (as I have never posted a image in the forums before).

That picture came out quite well for a phone camera! I must say that is very good. Very clean, shaded nicely, and I love the helm. The only thing I find odd is the orange purity seals but hey, at least they are painted nicely!

Good quality photos showing an excellent model. That's such a clean look of the helm.

Looks very good. I know for sure my models don't look as good as that. Very crisp job on the chest aquila.

Good work chap.

Nice job on what I consider to be GW's best miniature.

Wow, thanks for all the praise, you're making me blush

I must add that I feel that black armour is really hard to highlight, as if you do to much it comes out as a dusty grey.

Also, my current (lazy) method for gold is a bit lackluster.
Does anybody care to share their recipe for a warm, aged gold?

Great model, great paint. Where is the rest of your army?

Honestly for gold use the lizardman gold painting scheme for GW's stegadon painting guide. I have used it for my full lizardman army and it looks great.

Thanks for the tip!

Sadly painting hasn't been a large priority lately, mainly due to schoolwork and such. Therefore my fists consists of this (and a couple of test models):

It's definately up there, must explain why so many people paint it, there's even a thread around here dedicated to it.

I think it is just the pure amount of detail and character put into a single model. I love the entire front of the model from the chest skelly, buckle with looped chain and the scroll. It is just friggen awesome.

Great work on the Chaplain!

My gold recipe:
Basecoat= Tin Bitz
1st layer= 1:1:1 Tin Bitz, Burnished Gold, Brazen Brass (Trust me!)
2nd Layer=1:2:0.5 Tin Bitz, Burnished Gold, Brazen Brass.
1st Highlight= 2:1 Burnished Gold, Shining Gold
2nd Highlight= Pure Shining Gold

Gives it real depth, and the Brazen Brass just catches the light occasionally for a fantastic glimmer.

My Gold Recipe.

Basecoat = Vermin Brown equivalent.
step 1 = Shining Gold
step 2 = Ogryn Flesh wash
step 3 = Shining Gold (1st highlight)
step 4 = Burnished Gold (2nd Highlight)
step 5 (optional) = Thraka Green Wash (use this lightly in recesses to give an aged effect)

Great Chaplain BTW

Thank you for your recipes, I'll be trying them out later tonight.

About the chaplain, it's really a indimitating model to paint with all that lovely detail. I was really worried that I would botch the paintjob completely when I started painting it. On the other hand it's really fun to paint once you get started.

Oh and I forgot.
instead of the green wash, you can give a light dry-brush of Mithril Silver to make a very highly polished look.

Those paint jobs are awesome! I especially like how you managed to pull of the bone of the chaplains skull helmet and the yellow on the armour, things I find very hard to paint (not that I do either particularly much).

I just use shining gold, hit it with 2 washes of devlan mud, retouch back up to shining gold and highlight with burnished gold.

Thanks!

Yes, yellow can be a real pain in the backside to paint, it's really hard to touch up correctly (and more so if you have a tendency to glop black paint everywhere, like me). Only way around it is to improve ones brush control, and that's easier said than done!
