I've only been playing for about a year and only just recently got deep into the fluff of the game. I've noticed that Librarians always wear blue armor and I've been curious as to why.

ChrisWWII wrote:I eventually realized that it was apparently one die I had been rolling that kept turning up 3s. My reaction was to take said die, and hurl it out the window of the 3rd floor of our student union. I then placed a Commissar model next to the rest of my dice pile. They immediately began performing much better.

Because the Ultramarines are the best, and they wants to be like the Ultramarines, obviously.

Because Guilliman had OCD and needed to organise everything into neat little colour-coded categories. My Imperial Fist librarians, techmarines and chaplains will proudly wear their bananamen-yellow armour.

It is written in the Codex Astartes that all Librarians must wear blue power armor with gold and yellow highlights, no matter how cool your scheme is... well its also so they can pretend to be as awesome as a thousand sons sorcerer.

Joking aside, they dont HAVE to wear blue, unless your chapter is super codex.

The smurfs will have to take the banana armour from my Imperial Fists librarian's cold dead hands if they want me to follow their precious book so bad.

So it is easier to target them on the battlefield?

Captain Idaeus has it right:

"According to the guidelines of the Codex Astartes, the armour of Librarians is blue with gold and yellow highlights, regardless of chapter colours. The left shoulder plate of the Librarian's armour displays the chapter symbol in the case of power armour; for Terminator armoured Librarians, the chapter symbol is displayed on the right shoulder armour (leaving the Crux Terminatus for the left). The free shoulder pad displays the Librarian symbol, its exact form denoting the rank of the Librarian. Librarians wear golden yellow tabards which are edged with black patterns, the complexity of the pattern denoting the Librarian's rank.

Their equipment is often heavily ornamented by artificers of the chapter due to the heroism and valour shown by the Librarians, making every piece individual."

No it is not MRMUMBLES... and here I was thinking a serious discussion could be held in the background forum...

Anyway techmarine armour.

"In deference to their training on Mars and the close bond that exists between Techmarines and the Adeptus Mechanicus, Techmarines sometimes incorporate red into their armour, though they are careful not to obscure their own Chapter's Colours."

Well in a serious thought its the colour of there offices,....so to speak. jst as a chapter has its own colours so would the officiol body that trains librarians. like techmarines wear red because there trained on Mars. Or maybe each world in the Imperiam only has a small segment of the dulux colour chart

Techmarines and Vehicle crews wear red to denote that they have a link with the Adeptus Mechanicus. They have their own Chapter colours and markings on one of their shoulders. IIRC.

I'd guess it's for the same reason Chaplains wear black and Apothecaries white, to denote their rank and make it easier to spot them on the battlefield when playing.

And that's exactly why the BT don't have librarians, simply because we are the best and we don't need links to UM to prove it.

though not actually written in any fluff, this is probably the best reason i have heard for the color other than better uniformality.
Perhaps this is what THE GUILL was thinking when he wrote it into the book.

Librarians wear blue armour because they are the chapter cops. (always getting into their brothers minds and stuff looking for heresy). That's why they wear blue armour. lol

Yeah, it's basically just to stand out from the rest, because Librarians are "suspicious".

Librarians wear Blue, so that all the Chapters may have their hearts emboldened, to have a member wearing Proud Ultramarines colors instead of their ignoble, non-smurf scheme.

Ugh. All this Ultramarine talk makes me think I'm probably gonna be painting my Librarian red to match the rest of my army.

In the modern era, librarianship is principally a woman's occupation.

To be a librarian is to be intellectual. The traditional name for intellectual women is 'bluestockings'.

Consequently, blue is the traditional colour of librarians' uniform.
