As terminators can deepstrike what would happen if I put a character, like a Captain, who was not in terminator armour into the unit. Would this stop the terminators being able to deepstrike?

Let's say that you take nine terminators and attach a regular captain in powered armor without jump pack. That gives you a unit with nine models with Deep Strike and one model without Deep Strike.
Does that sound like a unit that can deep strike? If you try to deep strike with that unit, it fails because the one model can not enter play using deep strike, so the unit is stuck and won't be able to leave reserves.

I have a related question. Let's say you did give the captain a JP, would the unit still be able to benefit from a teleport homer?

Naturally. How would you expect a model to use a special rule it doesn't have?

You can attach an IC to a squad of Nobz and that IC benifits from FNP......how is this any different?

Because in your example, there's a model that specifically gives FNP to the entire unit.

Ok, Kommandos + non-infiltrating IC.

Because the rules work entirely differently and come from completely different sources and apply in different ways? Also they can't, you're thinking of Ambush. What exactly is confusing you? Do you have access to the Ambush rule and the BRB?

Well, I don't think you'd want to put them together at the start of the battle anyway. You don't have to,you can just deep strike the termies right next to the captain.

And again, if it works it's because of a specific special rule granted to the entire unit. In this case, IIRC, Ambush applies to 'Snikrot and his unit.'
Terminators can deep strike because that ability is specifically granted by the equipment they have. Stick a character in there that doesn't have that equipment, and they're not deepstriking.

Hmm... actually that's a good question... could a character with a jump pack (thus gaining DS) deep strike together with a terminator squad who also arrives via deep strike but from a different source?
Technically all models would have DS, though it wouldn't make any fluff sense...

I don't think he could. Their not even the same type of deepstriking. Terminators warp, while Raptors,er..assault marines jump out of planes.

Yes. The Deep Strike rules make no distinction for what method of descent the models are using.

I wouldn't think so. It only lists an affect specifically for Terminators. if the unit is not entirely made up of Terminators, it's not a unit of Terminators.
It also specifically disallows squads with jump packs from using it.

If you read the description of terminator armor it says that it grants the deepstrike special rule to its user, not the squad. unless the captain has terminator armor (or any other means of DS) than he cant DS with the unit).

As for a fluff reason, you could model a captain with a special backpack and call it a teleporter but use the JP rules. Chapters such as the Blood Ravens are known to use personal teleporters.
But it still could not use the teleport homer.

Get yourself a land raider and you don't have to worry about deep strike.
Besides are you taking assault terminators or tactical terminators?

So to clarify
If I deepstrike a captain joined to a unit of terminators next to a homer does the captain scatter but not the terminators (possibly ending up out of coherency) or does the jump pack mean the termies don't get to use the homer?

If they are a single unit, then you CANNOT use the TH as you are no longer a "unit of terminators", you are a "unit of terminators with an attached IC"
If they are seperate then the IC will scatter, the terminarors will not.
