Not to fused, if thry arent watching and making plans then let em, hada mate play once in warmachine and hes one of those types that is constantly on his mobile phone gadet and to often he'll miss out on whats going on and make a tactical mistake.

That said I do find it rude and annoying when its thier turn and they stop to do so.

These kind of people need to be hung by their toenails just like the ones that text while they drive. Now if they explain to me that is a family emergency or something important of the sort then i wouldnt mind but if its just to shoot the breeze then save it for when there is a break in between games.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Texting and phone absorption whenever you're in a social environment is just inconsiderate. As you said, a couple times here and there over 2+ hours is acceptable, but if it gets to the point that it's interrupting the game to get them to move, watch you move/roll dice, and basically engage, then it's a douche move.

Yeah, it's rude, but I would encourage my opponents to do it at every possible moment, including in their own turn.

The human brain can only focus on one thing at a time (the illusion of multitasking comes through rapidly switching focus between two tasks), and if I can get my opponent to be thinking about his GF or BFF while he should be thinking about moving and shooting, all the better for me.

Hopefully his impending loss would help demonstrate the true cost of texting all the time.

Now, that said, I have let my opponents go out and take smoke breaks while I'm busy moving my 100+ imperial guardsmen, which is tactically unsound for me (gives my opponent stimulants and a chance to just sit and think about the game in quiet), but I think it would be much more rude of me to deny a man his smokes than to text while he's moving.

It's like people who insist on carrying on a conversation *at* the table... even better *with* my opponent. It is rude and it completely unfocuses the game for all involved.

I usually don't mind people using their phones etc, if they need to contact family etc, but I do get annoyed if it's just general conversation. Usually, if I get a text during a game and it's not important, I just ignore it until later.

I don't mind I tend to think of it as a casual environment, I mean your average game is going to take a couple hours anyway, and the modern world moves alot faster than it used to, thus things are going to come up during the course of a game, so i'm pretty understanding about it.

Yes, it bothers me. But it's becoming a pervasive part of our culture. Not necessarily acceptable behavior, but it certainly occurs often enough.

What really grinds my gears is someone carrying out a conversation away from the table during my turn. So I do all my shooting and I have to flag him down to get him to make saves. Makes me want to roll his saves for him, remove his models, walk over and go, "here, you failed 5 out of 10 saves."

don't tempt me...

Wait, weren't your troops over there?

No, that was several turns ago, speaking of which, I just rolled to continue to turn 6, and the game is over. I win.

Wait, what happened to all of my models?

Oh, you weren't rolling your armor saves, so I rolled them for you. You were very unlucky with your saves tonight...

The point (at least for me) is to get away from real life for an hour or so and try to outwit your opponent. If you cant take an hour or two out of your busy day to play a game then you shouldnt be playing this game.

Yes I hate it, its basically saying "this game is not important enough for me to watch it"

Of course, I don't mind if the text is important, letting someone know they'll be late, or similar, but texting for the sake of texting is just rude and could wait for either a break or for the game to finish.

I would return a text if I recieved a text from my wife or my boss, but the rest would wait until the game was over. But I would have to check who all the texts I recieved were from, to make sure they weren't from the aforementioned wife or boss. I would expect the same courtesy from my opponent, namely to limit texting to a few people they deem important and save the rest for after the game. Likewise, I would only recieve a phone call from my wife or my parents during a game, and then only because it might be an emergency.

I don't mind texting but if the person is being a douche about it and then it is annoying. It is kind of like how a lot of cafes work nowadays where if your being a douche with a mobile phone you can get refused service.

Just to make it clear, texting is cool, being a douche isn't

I do text in games, however I don't let it get in the way of playing and I only do it during the other player's movement phase. I don't mind people texting, even if its just social but only when they're not required to roll a dice.

I think excessive texting is rude, but yes we do live in a society with instantaneous communication and people have this expectation that you reply to a text in a 10 minute window.

Also no I'm not a stereotype dorky gamer, most players I know aren't like that either, that seems to be more the preserve of computer gamers.

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...

I HATE IT MORE THAN ANYTHING. sozforcaps.

It has to be the most annoying thing ever, sure now and then, thats fine. Sure when its an emergency, also fine. But texting to the point of ignoring the game and me having to call them over to roll or pay attention is BS. Very rude and a clear way of saying I DONT CARE.

I tried to ban my friend from using his phone and he refused to leave it up stairs! And then refused to give it to me! I was very displeased...

Yes, because the people who tend to do frequent texting often let it get in the way of their gaming.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

i think that if someone is able to do it and still focus on the game at hand, it's not too bad.

i for one stay oh gchat on my iphone 99% of the time, and i've managed to make things so that i can talk to people, and play games while i'm chatting on my iphone

I really don't mind. A lot of our group are in LDR's anyway, myself included, so texting/phoning the missus is inevitable most evenings. We try to keep it to between games, but there's always the odd time when it happens during a game. None of us mind, though, so it's all good =)
