- I like the look of the new masters. It's pretty hilarious that the new gremlin crew are essentially the evil twins of the Ortegas. The Arcanist and Ressurectionist crews look great.
- Leveticus finally gets his own box set. MSRP is $45, with four Steampunk Abominations, Rusty Alyce, one Hollow Waif and the master himself. I already own Alyce, so it's probably the same cost for me to buy the units separately - the Hollow Waif sculpt is unique to this set.
- The collaboration with WorldWorks for pre-fabricated terrainlinx is a nice touch. I downloaded the TerrainLinx sewers set a few months ago, and it is a lot of work to put together.
- Two limited edition figures available this year - a special Nurse sculpt that will be at Gen Con, and a massive (72mm) Neverborn master that will be available at GenCon and on Wyrd's site for the duration of the con.

Interesting, is this paper terrain? For $50 I'd hope not but $50 seems too cheap for plastic or resin.

The original (TerrainLinx) products were paper tiles intended to be printed on thick cardstock and mounted on 3/16" foamcore. I'm guessing these will be using thick cardboard - thinking more akin to Space Hulk than D&D Dungeon Tiles.

Prepunched cardboard terrain then, with some sort of newfangled way to attach it. Cool. Maybe not $50 cool but still cool.

Some spectacular new stuff coming out. From their newsletter:
(Image tags added by yours truly)

With Gencon right around the corner and a slew of new releases, we thought it high time that we share our efforts.

August will see an expansion rulebook for Malifaux along with additional box sets and clamshells for masters, henchmen and minions. A new deck of cards called our Puppet Deck, which can be used as an alternative Fate Deck and is made out of plastic, making it much more durable to wear and tear during play. Lastly, we partnered with WorldWorksGames to create fully customizable and tangible terrain for your skirmish gaming which we call Terraclips. Our first three offers of this new line will be the 3D Streets, Sewers and Buildings of Malifaux!

These will see an early release at Gencon with a public release over the next couple of months through distribution and retailers. Information is below.

August Releases

WYR6013 - Malifaux Expansion Rulebook: Rising Powers - $35 (256 full color pages, soft cover)

The battles waged to control the Soulstone trade have created class divisions for mankind in Malifaux. While the Guild struggles to maintain peace and control the flow of Soulstones beneath an iron fist, Arcanists, mages basking in the glory of their newfound power, have bonded together to oppose those that would deny them the glory of their natural abilities. Resurrectionists practicing the necromantic art of rebirth and reanimation have shed the vestiges of their humanity with each accursed syllable of their unholy pacts. And the inhabitants of this new world, the Neverborn, stand against them all, determined to drive them back through the Great Breach that spans the aether between worlds.

Here, in Malifaux, the battle lines are drawn and new allies and adversaries have risen to meet the escalation in power. More than the exploitation of coveted Soulstone is at stake. The balance of Life and Death stands against the twisting of Fate’s forces.

As the world of Malifaux expands, so do the opportunities for conflict. A growing encounter system gives players nearly limitless options to fight over. Also, you are no longer limited by the Master you choose to lead your Crew. Henchmen have appeared to take on additional roles unavailable before, and releasing the previously unknown power of the Special Forces.

With the stories in this Malifaux expansion, new characters are presented for every faction – Guild, Resurrectionists, Arcanists, Neverborn, and Outcasts, including a look at the Gremin Kin, one group of Special Forces.

This year at GENCON Wyrd will be at booth 2213 with all of our latest offerings. As always, we like to do something fun and this year we have two Special Edition miniatures.

The first is Miss Pack, an alternative sculpt to one of McMournings demented Nurses and this years Special Edition miniature. Spend a $100 or more in the Wyrd booth and you'll get her free! A preview of her art card is below, with a painted miniature following here shortly.

The second is a miniature that will be only available during convention season, both at Gencon and online for the four days of the convention. This is the Nightmare Version of the Dreamer and companion, Lord Chompy Bits. Standing 72mm tall at the eyes, this is one BIG piece of metal which is completely usable for play in Malifaux and comes with stat cards for the Dreamer and Lord Chompy Bits, a new master for the Neverborn.

Due to the size of this piece, in order to keep costs reasonable, this will be only available for direct sale to customer, and only during convention season in limited quantities. This limited box set will retail for $60. A normal version of slightly less nightmarish size will be made available in the near future. Pictures of the painted product to follow shortly - in the mean time, artwork for the piece.

Also, releasing at Gencon and on pre-sale now at Battlefoam, the new Malifaux Battlefoam bag will be available.

More details and product previews to follow leading up to Gencon!

Holy cow, that paper terrain is awesome. Okay, $50 is steep. But sans shipping (from a FLGS) and all printed out it's not more than, say, double what it should cost.

And the figs are ace as usual. Anyone here have an opinion about the playability of the system?

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Very fun. Very playable. Very intuitive.

I've played a grand total of 2 games (over a month ago), and read the rulebook a time or 2 before that.
I'm certain I could go play a game right now with minimal need to consult the book.

The game is a LOT of fun.

If you look, you can find Henchmen for Wyrd. You can probably find one locally.
A Henchman should have 2 armies & be able to show you how to play, if you just want to check it out & see if you'll like it.

Goddamn. I know where all my gaming money is going when I get to GenCon.
I will have to get Lord Chompy-Bits and the Nurse. Nice.

Love the Manneqin Box, and the LaCroix Gremlins. Good to see Leviticus get a box as well.

I want to see the scenery in person though. It sounds like they want to be able to have multiple levels during game. Should be cool.

I just got my 2nd crew built and introduced a friend to the game over the weekend. Perdita is a dirty, dirty girl.
I am loving the activation method and the card mechanic.

The Puppet cards sound interesting as well.

I love the terrain. Hoping for more. Printable paper terrain can be fragile, preprinted cardboard looks sturdy enough.

Just a note on the World Works Terrain:

Nathan Caroland wrote:This is heavy gauge 1.5mm thick, die-cut card, pre-printed with a satin finish

It's not going to resemble the World Works Terrain you might be familiar with, as 1.5mm stock would be difficult to put through an ink-jet home printer.

My guess is that streets and sewers together make a fine modular almost 48-72" city gaming board for Warhammer Fantasy Battle, not to speak of Mordheim.

This is from the Worldworks Games site:

TERRACLIPS QUICK FACTS:

* Yes this is a tangible "in-store" product intended for direct distribution. No special skills or tools required other than a desire to play.

* Components are created from 1.5mm thick, die-cut gameboard card with a high quality pre-printed satin finish. Snap-out the items from the frame and get building. No cutting of any kind required. 16 10"X14" component frames are included with each product.

* TerraClips connectors are transparent plastic connectors which anchor all core elements together. You'll receive 1 free clip package with each individual terrain purchase. Connector packs contain 40 T-Clips, 40 L-Clips & 40 I-Clips.

Also, in the description of each box at their site (which describes everything you get in each box), they state that the Buildings of Malifaux set should cover 2' by 1.5' when built, the Sewers cover 2.5' by 2', and the Streets 2.75' by 2'...

Not too shabby when you consider a typical Malifaux game is played on a 3' by 3' or 4' by 4' table.

Never played Malifaux but I'm very interested in the terrain kits, looked at worldworks stuff before but it was way too much work and time intensive for me. Hope they do their upcoming sci-fi set this way asap as it would be amazing for necromunda.

I'm digging the goblins though, they'd make good powder grots for flash gitz.
