Subject: AT-43 - A new edition

In 4 years, AT-43 had 6 armies. Among these 6, 2 were only forecast in the first edition books.
Each of them was accompanied with books which allowed you to know them better and moreover to play them better thanks to tactical articles, unit by unit, including heroes of this military forces.
Today, AT-43 hasn't escaped the consequences of a multiple-years long development of a wargame: some troops are underated – mostly because they didn't take advantage of the ideas that occured in the following army books – and some rules need to be revised to reach a better balance of the game and more interesting and deep games.
The concept team has been working on this project for a few months. The results are in. The list of changes to come on the game is set up. Amongst this changes, scenarios from the first edition rulebook were revised to take into consideration the fact that our miniature range is based mainly on Army boxes. You will discover them very soon in the "Gaming Aids" section of our website.

The snow camo troops are for a tie-in to their expansion campaign Operation Frostbite, where models in snow camo get a free cover save so to say.

Hopefully they've moved away from the snow camo, I think they found out that it just drives people away from buying the models.

a new edition? i guess that (and their bankruptcy) explains the constant fire sales that are pissing off retailers trying to recoup their costs.. it's really a shame as the minis actually are nice, as is the art. hopefully only the rules will change but not the trashing of 4 years worth of minis.

People are still buying AT-43? Did it ever really "take off" with a lot of people buying it in the first place? These are not meant to be facetious questions, I'm genuinely curious because I don't really know anyone who got seriously into it. I know lots of Warhammer players who also play Warmachine, Flames Of War, etc., but not AT-43.

Around here most FLGS have dropped it hard after Confrontation turned pre-painted. I mainly bought loads out of interest and because plenty of the models can easily be pressed into service for Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader.

I dunno about getting back into AT-43. I like my Space Russkies, but am seriously considering pressing my walkers into service as armoured sentinels for my IG because damn if I would actually buy the GW models for them at retail prices. We shall see.

There's a number of us in the Richmond, VA area who play, actually. And I've always been able to find people who enjoyed it, it just bears the stigma of being Rackham.

Are there any sales number and/or rankings that show its place relative to other game systems?

I bought a lot of the minis too during a large sale, but have never really used them. Too bad, since I consider them pretty nice minis.
I've never known anyone else who played At-43 so maybe a rules change is in order. Or perhaps stabilizing their prices.

I'm surprised Rackham is still in business, to be honest. I can only speak for my own corner of Hell, but around here, their products became impossible to find a while back, the only sizable importer being bankrupt as a direct result, so the grapewine tells me, of Rackham changing Confrontation and destroying a fledgling community of customers.

I would love it that existed. Then we could all have a meaningful discussion about relative costs of game systems. Sadly, game company's financial statements are not usually published, and therefore it is difficult to make a comparison from company to company.

About a year ago my local store had all their Rackham products at 75% off. After about a month or two I offered to buy everything if I could get it for 85% off. They took my offer and I ended up making about $150 in profit selling the stuff on ebay, but I should have just paid the 75% and only bought the metal minis since the rulebooks and prepaints barely made back their cost. People just didn't want those, even at severe discounts.

If the current stock levels are any indication, then yes, AT-43 was selling very well. Not just the fire sale stuff, but the Red Blok and Oni AB's were difficult to find as were the Oni units last time I checked. It just seems that some lines (e.g. Red Blok and Oni) are more popular than others (e.g. Cogs and Karmans).

I wonder what they were thinking with the Cogs. Their striders look underdeveloped and their infantry units look horrible, especially those Stalker models. Atrocious! Automatically Appended Next Post: While I'm here, any word on those race specific dropships?

And race specific drop ships?!?

Some vague concept art and the rules can be found in Operation Frostbite. Though they only cover the four core armies sadly, no ONI or Cog material. I'd be glad when they finally release ONI UN infantry though. edit. UNA have the Camel D2 with two light laser cannons. Therians the Kraken Golgoth, which is a massive transport walker with two light nucleus cannons and a relay. Red Blok have the BTR-5 Soundounk ("chest" or "vault"), which is a copy of the Camel D2 but with more armour and two light MGaus weapons. Karmans get the Dirt Kongaroo with two light drum cannons.

I'm confused why you think the Cog striders look underdeveloped? They look fine to me.
As for the transports, they were on the release list that was given out before Rackham became R-E. Since then there has been no mention of them, It would be a safe bet to assume they're not coming out at all. Especially since the Cog and Oni army books have no mention of them. To be honest though, since everything is so paper thin in AT-43 (survivability wise) I don't think they would have much of a use.

Lol, well Odin and Manon's strider isn't exactly typical. Hopefully they'll fix the AFV problem in the next edition and give infantry and purpose besides taking objectives. Lets be real, Urod + Dotch or Urod + Urod combos are just plain sneaky.
