I noticed this morning that MrsVelard, our favorite purveyor of "Space Thunder, Monstrous Riding Wolf, of Wolves" has a new product listed and thought some of you Dakka-ites might appreciate it.

Check it:

I think you can all figure out what it's for.

I know Plastruct and a few other companies make rods... Crystals have always been the hard part though. I've seen some cool ones made with real crystals, or bits of toys, but I don't know of anyone who is still around that makes other colors.

See above: Plastruct makes them. Their site isn't particularly internet friendly, but dig around and you'll find them. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that you want 3/32" diameter rods and they fit perfectly (you cut them to fit).

Heh. This is the first time I've actually managed to find something before the general Dakka throng and I'm not being torn apart. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Must have been because I didn't mention Squats or Candlejack. That would have been stu-

I know you can dye plastic with RIT dyes, but I don't know if the plastic the prisms are made out of would take the color, anybody ever tried that?

It's long and thin so I don't think it's feasible, unless you cut a slot out of the bottom and used greenstuff to hide the damage. Either that or you remove the barrel entirely and attach the point directly to the firing chamber crystal.

Personally, I'd be wanting to find out if you can fit a $10 laser diode into the turret.

It's the same with anything. I love my FZ6R, but once you get an aftermarket muffler, a fender eliminator kit and some custom graphics on it, it becomes 10 times better.

I bought the wolves from her (before all the awesome, better sculpts popped up) and it took me about two weeks to get my wolves. Thing looked like a mail bomb with all the stamps and handwritten lettering on it, but they were well packaged and in very good shape. For all that there are better sculpts out there, her/his quality is pretty good.

If someone gets these crystals, make sure you pop some pictures here.

It's not that difficult.

- The design of a guardsman miniature is more uniquely GW's than that of a transparent polyhedron of specific dimensions.
- Someone recasting a guardsman miniature is only leeching off GW's work, while the person making these bits is making a superior product by adding colour.
- It is impossible to make the desired use of these pieces without also purchasing GW's Fire Prism kit, so it costs GW nothing but may also increase demand for their product.

Well then, I'm off to recast some powerfists. I carved "KILL" into the front of the gauntlet, which fits all your criteria for being awesome, and not a copyright infringement: It's not uniquely GW's (just a big fist, right!), adding that KILL logo has, in my opinion, improved the work some, and you need to buy Terminators to use them.

That is correct, except you are not allowed to cast GW products to resell. Those crystals could have easily been sculpted by Mr. Velard (not saying they were). However, if you sculpt a fist that looks remarkably like GW's with "Kill" on it, you are within your rights. Look at the huge aftermarket Space Marine heads trade. Scibor, Chapterhouse and many others are making a killing off that by improving on a design that GW uses (which doesn't cost GW anything).

And that is the crux - did she sculpt them, or did she recast them. I think her track record answers this question, and exposes a little hypocrisy here for all of the people cheering her work.

And even if she did sculpt them, sculpting something that looks "remarkably" like someone else's IP and selling them for profit is still likely to land you in trouble, I think, depending on how faithful the copy. For example, how long would I be able to successfully sell my T-shirts of "Mikey Mouse" that look remarkably like Mickey Mouse?
