So after my Kult of Speed list got zero replies () I got bored and decided it needed work. AV 10 transports are like, totally lame, man.

Anyway, I call this "Orks: Or How I Learned To Stop Caring And Love The Battlewagon."

Lemme know what you all think.

Just as a heads up, this seems like it'd be a fun list to play, so please don't be offended if I reject your suggestions. It's not because I think they're bad, I may not feel they mesh will with this list or wouldn't be fun to play. That said, have at!

Hey SaintHazard

first off appreciate the Dr Strangelove reference, love that film.

I don't play orks but the list looks good to me.

Is the big mek going in the Nobz BW?

One of my all-time favorite movies

Yeah, the Big Mek goes with Nobz.

Boyz go in Battlewagons, Nobz + Mek go in their Battlewagon, cue race to the front with Mek's wagon right in the center for KFF saves for all the other 'wagons.

Big Mek is better with cybork body or else ap4 weapons or no armour saves weaps will dice him up.

Nobz need cybork along with Painboy and waaagh! banner. Hitting on 3+ with feel no pain is damn cool

Battlewagons are all messed up. Why kannons because you can only move 6" which isn't getting your Boyz to the front line. And why 4 big shootas? You can only fire one if you move and you still cannot move the kannon because they are S5 and not counted as defensive weapons.

How would you outfit the Battlewagons?

My main inspiration there was getting my Boyz into combat, then using them either as tankshockers (deff rolla) or stationary weapon platforms (everything else) depending on what targets remained on the battlefield.

Then again, the Deff Rolla alone is enough to make a Battlewagon scary as hell.

So I could just nix the Kannon and 3 Big Shootas on each and use those points to beef up my Nobz with Cybork Bodies and a Dok.

Any leftover points could be more Nobz.

They all have it. RPJ = Red Paint Job.

It allows you to move 1 extra inch in your movement phase.

Boarding planks could be useful, I see them in a lot of mech Ork lists. I'll look into that. It's a 5 point upgrade IIRC, so that shouldn't be hard.

Claypool wrote:Drop the Kannons and 3 Big Shootas, as well as the 'eavy Armor on your boy mob nobz. Get Painboy and more Nobz.

No 'Eavy armor? Most infantry weapons out there are AP 5 or AP 6, and I'd be super leery about a 5+ invulnerable being my Nobz' only proper protection. What's your justification there?

And the Kannons and 3 Big Shootas each will go.

How do we feel about Killkannons? I left them off, as they're ordnance weapons, which would completely cripple the Wagons' ability to move about. They also seem to expensive for what they do.

Unless you really want to allocate wounds to your Nob, 'eavy Armor is only useful when there's only a few boyz left. I'd rather just kill a boy then risk wounding my Nob so I never saw the utility of giving him extra armor when he's got 19 extra wounds.

Big shoota to take the weapon destroyed results, boarding plank so you can assault vehicles without getting out and maybe RPJ so you can move 7" still fire 18" with the shootas and enemies need 6+ to hit. All for 115. Add dethrollas if you want but I don't rate them because you're putting yourself into melta range and a even more prime target.

And the Big Shoota still gets to fire if I move 7". Makes sense. I do like Deff Rollas, I'm gonna keep them, but everything else sounds like a pretty fair deal. I'll have to wait until I get home tonight before I can make any changes (no codex with me right now) but I'll see about it then.

Yup big shoota still fires if yo move 7" because it counts as combat speed.

Wagon with what I suggested inc dethrolla is 125 points.

I don't think you can move 7", shoot, and only be hit on a 6+ but that's a YMDC issue.

I had a read of the rules and I see where you're coming from. It allows you to move that extra inch but still counts as moving as the speed below if that makes sense, so if you move 7" you're still moving at combat speed by the looks. You can still shoot though because it counts as moving at combat speed.

Yes, I have to agree. It just allows you to move extra 1" for free but still counts as the speed it would normally move at.

The rules for Red Paint Job explicitly say that the extra inch does not count towards vehicle movement speed, so if you move 7", you're moving at combat speed. You can fire weapons but you can't only be hit on a 6+.

However, maximum cruising speed becomes 13". That much faster at getting my Boyz into close combat.

Also, I have no idea what the Dok costs, which is why I can't make any changes until I have a codex.

Y'know what? Lemme just go download the pdf. Then I can start making changes.

A BW is a troop transport. You weren't going to go into melta range when you dropped off your ork payload? Those BWs were already prime targets. I don't think added the deffrolla changes things all that much. The only reason I see for him to exclude them is if he really needed those points back and could spare the str10, or if he was carrying shoota boyz or lootas and was going to keep the BW in the backfield as a bunker with maybe a kannon.

So it all depends on how you plan to use those BWs. If your tactic is to ram your troops into your enemy lines as fast as possible then I think the deffrollas, RPJ, and maybe a big shoota for weapon destroyed buffer is good enough. If you are holding back and shooting then you can think about loading up on the guns and dropping the deffrolla and RPJ. Either way you don't want to over upgrade your BW because as Mercer said they are the target priority most of the time, and will get targeted by the enemies big guns.

That's actually an interesting point - carrying Lootaz and hanging back.

Lootaz are cheaper than Nobz, and I think I have enough anti-vehicle firepower to not particularly require the Nobz' PKs up front.

I really really really don't like the idea of having zero ranged firepower in Battlewagons, but Mercer and Claypool are exactly right, it'd be next to useless in the context of a transport. I'd like to give 1 BW to the Lootaz and use it as a firebase with the potential to move quickly if necessary.

I may rework this list, but it'll get a bit squiffy since I need the Nobz in order to take four BWs.

Suggestions?

I like lootas backing up my BW. I always try to get a truck in there too. I usually use planks on my BW, but I am using them less and less as I get into deffrolling vehicles. Still love those planks on the fast trucks!!

When I run BW I have used:

BW (ram, red paint big shoota) + KFF Mek + 19 Shootas w/ Nob
BW (deffrolla, red paint big shoota) + Big Choppa Warboss + 19 Sluggas w/ Nob
BW (deffrolla, red paint big shoota) + 12 Burnas (with the template of doom!)
Truck w/ 12 Hardboyz w/ Nob
2 Coptas (rockets & 1 Buzzsaw)
10 Lootas

Is a fun list, win or lose.

Sometimes I take Meganobz in the truck!! the Warboss moves over & babysits them.

Interesting. I have a lot of people tell me 'Ard Boyz aren't worth the extra 4 points apiece, that it's easier just to take more Boyz instead.

And there are a lot of AP4 weapons out there that make 'Ard Boyz a point sink. I could be wrong about that, though.

As for the Trukk, that'd solve my "not enough Battlewagons" problem pretty easily, but the question is who to stick in the Trukk?

I definitely want to keep 3 Troops, 2 just seems too few to hold down objectives properly (and my first list actually had 4).

What about:

1500 points

Big Mek 115
PK, KFF, 'Eavy Armor, Cybork Body

20 Boyz 170
Shootas, 2 Big Shootas
Nob w/ PK, Bosspole

20 Boyz 160
Nob w/ PK, Bosspole

11 'Ard Boyz 210
Nob w/ PK, Bosspole
Trukk w/ RPJ, Reinforced Ram, Boarding Plank, Armour Plates

15 Lootaz 225

1 Deffkopta 70
TL Rokkits, 1 Buzzsaw

1 Deffkopta 70
TL Rokkits, 1 Buzzsaw

1 Deffkopta 70
TL Rokkits, 1 Buzzsaw

Battlewagon 135
Deff Rolla, RPJ, Big Shoota, Boarding Plank, Armour Plates

Battlewagon 135
Deff Rolla, RPJ, Big Shoota, Boarding Plank, Armour Plates

Battlewagon 140
Deff Rolla, 4 Big Shootaz, Armour Plates

Mek goes with 'Ard Boyz in Trukk, 20 Boyz each go in BW, Lootaz go in third BW to provide long-range fire support, Koptaz to their regular thing.

What do we think of this?
