I am biding my time here in Afghanistan waiting for that final flight home...so I had this all sent out here to paint. Now that is a dedicated hobbyist. I did find it ironic to paint an army in a war zone surrounded by an army. But just got in a order from the war store...so ill post pics of my 105mm art battery once done. I am finishing off my paratrooper platoon and adding some much need carbine teams. I am a huge fan on the resin bases from battlefront. Anybody use them or any other types? I have been using Vallejo modeling gray pumice for the bases ...great stuff. Definitely better than the Spackle and glue. Next project on the table is my armored panzer grenadier army. Got a lot done with that and doing all the bases so i can spray them all at once.

Well just got in the final pieces to this tank co....got the "Dogs and Devils" book now looking at adding some heavier AA guns and maybe some supporting platoons. DO you favor more tanks, tanks and infantry or infantry with some armor support.

Well I am putting together my 90mm heavy AA platoon from dogs and devils....its been a an interesting piece. I am trying to figure out How I want to base it. I wish Battle Front made large resin bases like it does for medium and small bases. I have been using a combination of urban and rural with some sponge foliage from gale force 9. Anyone had any luck with the Silfor leafing system? still waiting on mine to get mailed over here. Well I will post some more pics as soon as time and the internet allow.

Built and ready to paint;

new 105mm arty US (2 sections)

carbine teams US (8)

I've not tried the leafing system but certainly look forward to seeing your results with it. What are you using for your urban bases? I've been considering urban for some SS I am starting soon but have not found a good source. I love the kerr and king base designs but they would not match up with the rest of the FoW bases.

I have been using the bases from battlefront.....I really like that design and you can cut and carve and redo to your liking. They are easier to pick up and look great. I ordered a full set of king and Kerr for my Africa corps ....so well see. The battle front Urban bases are good cause they don't hide the models and you can always add to them. I will post some pics of the works in progress.

Why won't the Kerr & King bases match up? I have been thinking about getting some.

even the battlefront bases that i have been using need a little cleaning up around the edges...but they are definitely bigger than the normal. even by a small fraction. some of these resin bases from different manufacturer's are way bigger and don't match up with size from FOW bases. but they are cool...so do what you have to do. I ordered some so well see how it goes.

Nice. The only thing I would say are the poles are a bit bright. Give them a very light dry brush with an earth colour for that authentic dirty look.

Army Painter razor wire...from warlord games. I used that with a pin vise to drill the holes then bent the wire around a pen to get the shape. was really easy.

does anyone know a good way to make or to buy sand bags that are 15mm scale. I have tried "green stuff with varying success.

A pack of plastic-injection cast sandbags: 200 sand bags in all measuring 5mm x 8mm x 2mm.
I've used these at both 15mm, 20mm and 25mm, although they are getting a tad small for 25mm -30mm. Very handy for those who don't have the time to make their own sand bags by hand but want something that they can make a unique sand-bagged position out of, rather than relying on pre-cast elements that usually don't fit just the way you need them too.

You can buy from here:
http://www.barrule.com/Workshop/WWII/products%20-%20WWII.htm

I've bought from there without any problems before (not tried these sandbags yet but am very tempted).

Here is a custom staff team for my 105mm arty, it uses one of the battlefront resin urban bases. I painted to either go Italy or North Africa. The bases are really versatile and you can do a lot with them. Please give me your feedback.

Looking good, but I love the look of all M7s anyway so might be a bit biased

The photos are a little bit dark so it is a bit hard to see the mud too much, but looks quite nice with the glossy/wet effect. Did you use one of the tamiya mud weathering sticks on it too?

Well this is really going to blow your mind...I used real mud with crazy glue then did a magic wish dance....okay no really...I went with a mix of baking soda(grain size matches scale), and german chocolate brown. this was the base, spread liberally into tracks and areas near tracks. I then went over it with flat earth...to bring up the color. After this dries I go over it with gloss varnish to give it the wet look. remember to leave some spots unvarnished, as it looks like a mix of old dry mud and new wet mud.

P.S. also lightened up the pictures

I recently picked up some Mid War Monsters for this tank co....in the event that I can ever use them....besides local games. Has anyone ever used the M-27 Medium tanks , the M-6 heavy tank, Or the M4A31 "jumbo" Sherman Assault tanks? Please let me know. I am back on track with the Tank Co. I hit that wall of "no more painting" I have a new terrain / Objective piece to post will do that later.

i have always wanted to get some M-6s.

the important thing to remember is that they are just basically shermans with better armor and more guns.

3 pounders are just 76mm.

so basically 76mm shermans with better armor. you will still need to flank tigers to reliably kill them, but Panzers should fear you.
