For the last 2 days I've been searching on the net for a nice army case and I found a lot of them but not sure which ones are the best one.

-GW Army Case (I'm guessing they're not that great but still overpriced because it's GW)
-Sabol bags
-Battle Foam bags

Right now, I'm thinking about getting one from Battle Foam because I really like the option of custom foam trays but would like to get some advices from people who bought Army Case from different companies.

I gotta say, I was really skeptical of Battlefoam until I bought one.

I got it last week and I'll be the first to admit that it is really an incredible product.

If you can afford it, absolutely make the plunge. You won't be disappointed.

battle foam is the best product in my opinion.

I would say Sabol, just for the savings. While Battlefoam may be the superior product, their stuff is usually priced double that of Sabol. What I'm planning on doing is just buying the foam for ~$50 from Sabol and then putting it in a cardboard box. Unless you plan on dropping it off of a speeding motorcycle or it getting crushed by luggage, it should do just as good.

If you have money to blow, go Battlefoam.

If you want the best price/quality ratio, get a cheap toolbox or aluminium case and make your own foam trays.

I got my first BattleFoam bag last week, I picked up their Malifaux bag, and they make an amazaing product. Before the price of their stuff has kept me away, but their product is worth it IMO.

I also have a Sabol bag, the bag itself is really nice, but I can not in good consiounce recommend their foam.

OP is from Canada, those would cost far too much to ship as they're European, no?

Kr multicase is free shipping and Feldher has high shipping costs yet you save 19% on the european vat... so errr dont know. I have no idea of what OP thinks that is " far to much" expensive.

I have GW cases and Army Transport cases. I have been eyeing up battle foam, and will probably pick it up.

However, the best case I have is a rock solid Paint Ball Gun case that I got from Dick's that had a small dent in it, and they were selling it as a defect for $10. Apparantly an employee dropped it an they had not been able to sell it for a year. I scooped it up and little banged the dent out, right now it looks good. Its big enough to fit 3 side by side army transport trays.

I used foam from a craft store to custom fit 3 leman russ, 3 chimera's, 2 hell hounds as the sponsons/ turrents are all magnetized in the bottom trays. It has cut outs for my dice and tape measure. All the guard troopers fit in 2 inch high trays. It took some work, but making my own case cost me $15 bucks plus some elbow grease. Of course, with the new book i'm trying to re-figure how to fit weapon teams now.

I rarely if ever travel with my miniatures. Running a game store 7 days a week cuts down on going to other people's tournaments. )

This weekend we had to take hundreds of models down to games day, many dozens of them larger models like dreadnaughts, multiple baneblades, and 4 titans. We used 3 Battlefoam 1520's for a fraction of it, and I was really impressed by how nice they were to use. For a situation like we had, with huge amounts of models, and needing to get them all down to an event with minimum breakage, they were great. I expect we'll use more last year.

I've been working to start carrying BF in my store and decided to get off my ass last night and get the work done to throw out the first order.

I do like the new bag from Outrider, and have used the GW doublewide case for many years, and I sell a ton of Sabol product. I think the thing I like best about having all these bags, is having more choice. I can choose the bag that best fits the army I need to transport, and the volume.

The club/store are heading to Chicago for Games Day next year, GW invited us to set up another large display. And we'll probably hit Adepticon as well. I expect we'll need a lot more 1520's, and a halve dozen of the Packmax's.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

I've found just a simple tool case with foam inside works great.

I spent about 100+ on battlefoam stuff, and while its great, I went to Menards and picked up a tool box for $20 and it fits my whole army.

So it ends up being more compact and cheaper to go that route.

I've always liked the sabol bags. I've even gone so far as to store everything in sabol trays on my shelf so when it's time to play I just pack the trays and go. I really like what Battlefoam is doing, but right now I just can't justify the cost when I've already invested so much in sabol bags and trays. I have ordered a few trays from battlefoam though, that were cut to fit in sabol bags instead of battlefoam bags. Dunno if they still do those though

I have the KR double. My brother has the super-duper mahoosive GW case, and the differences are major

The foam in the KR is firmer meaning any models (esp. metal) with sharp pointed bits don't rip chunks out of it as easy as the GW foam

The aluminium case is far studier than the plastic case of the GW

The fact that the GW has the Imperial Falcon plastered over it and the KR is plain in style, the simpler design appeals to me

The downfall is the KR's supplied strap is a bit short but hey we're more concerned about protection than the length of a strap

Plus the fact that when I ordered my KR directly on their website, they sent some wrong trays, which would normally be a bad thing, but they sent the right ones once I informed them of the mistake, and they said to keep the incorrect ones as an apology, so big thumbs up to the extra trays, an even bigger thumbs up for customer service

Sabol cases are good, I have three.

The Battlefoam products are pricier but of much higher quality and they fit more miniatures per tray so while they do cost more you can put more minis in each one, which mitigates their cost.

If you have tons of models like I do, space becomes an issue. I store each army in it's on bag and so I need to be able to get as many in each bag as possible.

The GW cases are OK. They protect the models really well with the hard plastic, but you can't fit much inside them for one, and for two the foam they use is total garbage. It bends when you lift it and like other have said, the models take chunks of the foam out all the time and tear it. I only use mine for the models I rarely ever touch.

Well, it seems unanimous.

Battlefoam cases are the best ones.
GW cases are the worst ones.
Sabol come between those two.

I think I might order some custom BF foam trays to store my armies at home and a single case/bag from Sabol or even a GW to transport the army I'm gonna use and just switch the foams when I need another army.
Would be much cheaper than buying a case for each army.

Thanks for all the advices
I knew BF foams were cool because of the custom foam option but I didn't know there was actually a big difference of quality between all the foam trays.

Battlefoam. Their foam is fantastic, so strong. The bags are solid unlike Sabol, so it won't fall in on itself when it's not full of foam. The custom tray creator is incredible. You can really get ever single penny out of the foam because you can actually see how many miniatures you can cram into there.

It's expensive, but IMO totally worth it. I'm going to look into getting one as soon as I have some extra cash.

I saw in a different thread a mention of a company called Pelican who makes especially durable cases. Anyone know how much those cost?

That said, I'm in the market for an affordable case and have no idea where to start or what dimensions to look for for a 2000 pt. + army.

Pelican manufactures cases for industrial/professional applications (I.E. - camera/sensitive equipment, etc.) Don't really know much else about them. My guess is you would probably get a better deal w/ sabol or battlefoam.

Sabol and Battlefoam are very much getting what you pay for. Sabol is a comfortable, moddable, middle of the range option. I happily use it for my armies. Would Battlefoam be awesome? You bet. But frankly it's out of my price range. If I had a lot of money I'd go for it though.

I have a GW case and it does fine. Right now I have the Apocalypse backpack (which is designed to hold said GW case perfectly) loaded up with my Guardsmen and a cardboard box with some Sabol foam layers for my tanks. Not the best, but it works.

EDIT: PS: There's reports of GW cases getting backed over by trucks and still being intact, with their contents completely secure. I wouldn't go out and try this, but still - they're sturdy bastards.

@PVT-Jet: If you are buying a pelican case, I'd suggest looking at a place that sells them at discount. I got mine on Amazon on sale. It is the 1510. It is a heavy bastard, but it has wheels and is carryon size. I got it with the velcro inserts instead of foam. It is currently storing:

3x Drop Pod, 2x Vindicator, 2x Razorback, 4x Rhino, 2x Dreadnought, 2x Landraider, 1x Landspeeder, 3x Attack Bike.

Pelican has a web site. I mentioned them recently... I have considered buying a 1460 if I travel somewhere with minis again, as Pelican's cases are built very, very tough (as in some are mil-spec). I would cut the included foam so that I could load it with the required Sabol trays.

However, Sabol is probably better to take to a game via normal transportation. Pelican's stuff is more if you need to take bunch of stuff on a flight where you'd need to check it and want really, really good protection.

Was going to buy a Battle Foam bag someday but just found a sale for a Sabol bag.

Any suggestions on which one of the Sabol bags is the most useful to buy?
I know it depends on what I need to put in it, but there must be one that's more popular than the others?

Thanks

If you're getting the regular Army Transport, make sure to get the Mark2 bag. I can't stress enough how much better side-loading is for these trays.

I'm thinking either the Motor Pool or the Mark2.
What can hold more infantry troops between a mark2 and the big Citadel army case?

The Motor Pool seems bigger but it also looks more cumbersome.

By the way, Sabol sells only Pluck Foam?

Is it pluck foam as well in the Citadel Army case?

And about foam trays thickness.
Is 1" good enough for Space marines or 1.5" is better?
1.5" or 2" for Terminators?
3" for Rhinos and 4" for Land Raiders right?

Thanks

This looks a seriously good case to me and I'm seriously considering getting one.

One question I'd like to ask. Does this fit GW foam trays as well?

Thanks in advance.

Sabol sells some precut trays, but they're not as fancy as the BF ones. The foam is different too - a different density.

I have a mark II and three of the motor pools. I like the mark II better than the motor pools even though the motor pools hold a few more inches of foam (16 vs 13 iirc). The trays are a very tight fit in the motor pools and the mark IIs have better pockets for books, dice and stuff. All of the sabol bags have a little bit of the squeeze problem since they're not rigid and rely on the foam trays for the support structure. My favorite bag for my sabol foam is actually a custom bag ordered from Bolter and Chainsword. They did bags two years in a row, but there was less interest this year so they just did dice and a dice bag.

I have a BF 1520 too. I like it alot. The rigid sides make loading trays really quick and easy. The only problem with the 1520 is that it doesn't have big side pockets for dice, templates and such.
